Ventura Says:
I have been taking dilaudid 8 mg 3 times a day for degenerative disc disease. It seems that I have been in more pain than when I was taking Vicodin. I have muscle and joint pain. My legs and feet hurt really bad sometimes it hurts to walk. I have tried telling my doctor but he just looks at me with this blank look on his face. Does anyone else have these symptoms?
I have recently been taking Dilaudid in very small doses and I, too, notice that I have muscle and joint aches and pains which are more severe than when not taking the drug. I am curious to know if it is a recognized side effect.
I dont think that it is a reconized sign for dilaudid, but my dr finally took me off of it and gave me oxycodone witch works much better for me and I am not in so much pain everywhere!
Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone and yes, while it is a little known side effect, medications in this class can cause some people to suffer from muscle and joint inflammation.
I found this out the hard way when I was on pain management and taking large doses of Morphine, my pain was much worse when I was on it, than it was when I wasn't taking anything.
Unfortunately, doctors do not go through the same training as pharmacists and they are not usually familiar with all of the detailed side effects of any given medication, they usually only know the basic, most common ones and prescribe accordingly.
Thanks for the info, Verwon. I am very sensitive to prescription drug medication and always suffer side effects. I just thought it very unusual that a painkiller could actually cause pain but now I know better. I have been off meds for a week or so and although I am in pain, I don't have the additional all-over joint and muscle aches and pains.
