hi...my mom passed away on 2007. she was the closest person to me. as a nurse you know that pain is pain. whether physical or emotional we as humans will try to cure ourselves of these pains and docs are all too willing to help us mask these pains. my mom was the closest person to me when i found her dead. she died of an overdose because of being in so much pain that people get desperate for relief. then i turned to the very thing that killed my mother to get through the emotional pain. please know others out there are hurting too. all that taking medication foe the inside pain did was make me lose everything else i had. please dont let these pills make u lose ur job, ur family, or ur will to survive. survivors guilt has had me in its grip for many yrs now. im 28 and have been hooked on the pills off n on since she died in 2007 when i was 22/23....wow....so long and so much wasted. please go see a counselor or grief group. had i done that i wouldnt have covered my inside pain with the very thing that killed my bestfriend (my mom). i know have ptsd from not dealing with the real issue.

It is very difficult to take narcotics, I have severe ddd and a herniated disk above a fusion. I went to hazelden to help me get off the meds and was pain free (virtually) for several years. But now I have another herniated disk and buckets of pain. Not sure what to do!!

Pebbles I'm very sorry hear someone having to go through so much pain in their lives. It is usually the emotional pain that causes people to abuse pain and other medications but this is a Pandora's box as they may help emotionally in the beginning; soon they just cause worse depression. As for antidepressants they only seem to work with therapy..I'm only speaking from personal experience here since I am in no way a medical professional. I hope you find happiness again, best wishes.

I was born with the sickle cell disease. As you all know or have heard this is a very painful disease that is accompanied w blood transfusions on a regular. The symptoms of this disease is bone deterioration and joint swelling. In 2001, both of my hips and knees had tremendous deterioration which resulted in a lot of pain. I was prescribed the lortab10 and I still presently taking them. They are addictive to those that wanna be hooked. If I have them fine and if I don't fine. I eventually ended up with both hips replaced at the age of 27 and waiting on both knees to be replaced. So I deal with pain crises from the sickle cell which can last from anywhere to weeks and bone deterioration. Once again people who abuse the lortab make it hard for people like me who really need them. I missed my appt. while at school and I'm just out while the junkies are happily high

Hydrocodone 10.325 mg is very addictive. I've been taking this medication for a year now. And when I decided to not take the medicine I went through some horrific withdrawals and my body ached for almost a month. i went thru mood swings, I had the s***s for three weeks. I wouldn't eat. and all I would do is think about taking another pill although I did have a recent refill of 180 pills of hydrocodone I didn't take any. When I came off of the hydrocodone I didn't have any energy what so ever. it was painful, even more so than my back pain.. SO AS FOR ME AND MY PERSONAL OPINION AND MY FREEDOM OF SPEECH, F*** HYDROCODONE. THAT S*** WILL TAKE AHOLD OF YOUR LIFE AND RUIN IT. IT ALMOST RUINED MY LIFE BUT I DIDN'T LET IT.. THAT S*** SHOULD BE BANNED FROM BEING PRESCRIBED!!! I RECOMMEND ANYONE TAKING THIS MEDICATION TO SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP AND GET OFF OF THE MEDICINE... YOURS TRULY!!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your accident and your mothers death. I recently have gone thru a full hysterectomy and was prescribed patches for my hormone issues. Feeling racey, tired, confused ,having a hard time concentrating depressed and very emotional. The patches was like a roller coaster ride with highs and lows weekly until I tried pellet hormone replacement therapy which is all natural cost about the same but my insurance does not pay so its out of pocket about 350 every 6 months. This was the answer for me. Hope it helps you. Best of luck.

After a severe motorcycle accident where I was struck by a drunk driver my doctor placed me on this medication at 1 every 4 hrs for the pain. While it was mildly effective for pain management, the acetomenophin did cause countless problems not on my liver but on my stomach. At first he tried using a stronger medication but we decided to try something a little different after a few months that had really been a 'godsend'. He placed me on a 25mcg fentanyl patch later increasing to a 75mcg patch.

Pros: continuous pain relief. I've never had a problem with ' breakthrough pain '. Keeps a steady supply of medicine in my system as long as I wear the patch as specified.

Cons: patches do have a tendency to lose their adhesive qualities in warm weather due to sweat. They do have to be worn on schedule otherwise effectiveness is greatly diminished and discomfort is pretty intense.

Not something I want to be on for the long term and my Dr. and I already have a step down plan for when that time comes by lowering the dosage and supplementation with other opiates as needed. 2 mistakes I have made. Opening the patch and eating the medicine resulted in 3 days worth of medicine in one dose that couldve killed me and impatiently wearing more than one patch at a time. Other than that though, this chemical has treated my pain very effectively and allows me to have a quality of life I wouldn't have without it.
I know this post is kinda off topic but hopefully it helps.

Hello, I just happened to read your post. I am a caregiver for my husband who suffered a catastrophic head injury and is in immense pain from the diffuse axonal injury and axonal shearing This can happen in all types of brain injuries though. Your pain medicine can make you moody because when it wears off it causes rebound pain. Your neck most likely is needing some physical therapy and ice/heat therapy. You sound like a very strong and educated person. You had a blessing in the fact that your mom took good care of you. I am so sorry to hear of the loss. You may have unresolved grief in your heart and that is completely NORMAL sweetie. I am a Christian and have lost two fiancees before I met my husband and then almost him in the industrial accident. Your spiritual health has to put into the picture because God loves us and that is why he sent his son. To save us and reassure us that we will see our loved ones again. But it is still hard to lose people and so I think you should find people that share life with you in a positive way. If your in excruciating pain you should see a specialist who is not a pusher and will help you come up with a plan that will last you a long time. You seem to have personal discipline and that is the key to success. And most importantly, your hormones are important because they control everything. If your thyroid is off kilter you will feel lethargic, have foggy thinking, weight issues etc so it is important to get T3 and T4 levels checked and cortisol levels also. I have fibromyalgia and know what chronic pain is, but our will to live and enjoy life should the urge to just lay down and accept defeat. My doctor gave me some excellent advice-PACE YOURSELF. If you do that and eat good healthy foods and make your health your priority, you will have a happy life. I have learned life is not a sprint but a marathon so to say. There are pharmacies who can check your hormones if your interested and you can look up Dr. Platt in California to learn stuff that will totally amaze you. Hope this helps and God Bless You Always. Oh yeah, and remember that caregivers are needed badly. It affects us all because one thing is for sure as far-We all know that one day we will either be a caregiver or need a caregiver, so it is good to help others when you are well and to accept help from others when you are down and need some help. Never be afraid to ask for help. It is the smart thing to do.The Bible says that extreme pride usually precedes a great fall.

I agree with they are only additive if you want them to be , but not the transplant part , i have been taking them for several years, 180 per month, i have 3 bullet holes SS rods in my back a new knee and a titanium plate in my neck along with degenerative disc syndrome, I wish i could switch up but im immune to lots of the better PK , anyways if your kid has them and gets caught with them he will go to jail , the kids have found a way to remove the time release agent in them and eithe smoke shoot or snort them for the hi and can easily OD from these methods....so if it was my kid i would beat hi ass....

Wow..u guys are amazing survivors. I had the gastric bypass in 2008. For some reason the surgery site started to ulcerate. For over a year I was on Vicodin which only erased the irritation so I could remain employed. The only response to the Fentanyl patch was skin irritation and burn. Then it was the Morphine 30mg 3x a day with Oxy for breakthrough pain. So a week b4 surgery the nurse calls and says stop taking everything. Called the office back to verify..everything. I didn't know it then that I was having withdrawal from the morphine...the week leading to surgery I didn't sleep even 4hrs that week..sweating..runny nose..coughing..fever...a cold right?!? So my Fam force fed me Nyquil. Wasn't eating already and I'd throw up whatever I tried to take down. Surgery day, my vitals were so off that they paged my surgeon and the anesthesiologists. My surgeon was more disgusted than angry..he said that he couldn't hold off on the surgery, he couldn't do that to me. I was given IV meds as well as a patch for my blood pressure which was crazy high. The anesthesiologist sat with me and talked to me the whole time he was giving me stuff to get me stable enough for surgery. I was given the banana bag..morphine...dilaudid and finally methadone. It was the methadone that stabilized me..3hrs behind my surgery time and he never left my side. After the surgery they kept me pain free. Every 4hrs shot time and they had me on a drip that I used maybe 3x. I was sent home with jugs of liquid Roxi & percocet that looked like the bottle was a gallon. I still had over 100 morphine pills at home already and a few oxy. I took the pain meds for a week after discharged as instructed. The 2nd week I started to wean under direction of the pain mgmt clinic and by the 4th week after discharge, I wasn't taking anything. It was at my discretion to take only as needed. I felt fine..even with all that in the house I didn't have the temptation..I only like to feel sleepy when it's time to sleep. My 1 1/2yr was proving that child proof didn't apply to him and that scared me, so I released everything to my Dr. My Mother has been on Vicodin for like 20yrs and there has been times when she's been without a day or 2 and didn't have withdrawal symptoms. I don't think my Fam has an addictive gene. I think that there should be med maintenance. The Dr's should be more responsible when prescribing.

Yup hydrocodone 10 mg acetametaphen 500 mg. I used to take these after I had surgery to remove a large cyst from my uterus. How old is your son? Cuz these can be very addictive if not takin correctly.

If you want to become free from addiction from pain pills, there are two drugs that allow you to become independent from using pain pills with out the side effects and you wean yourself off them as prescribed. subutex and suboxone - Houston (Detox Houston) has a great outpatient rehab so you do not need to lose work hours etc.

this is a Lortab 10/500, my mom took these while battleing cancer, in the early stages, its for moderate to severe pain, they are addicting and you become very tollerant to the effect quickly, they have ahold of you before you know it and the withdrawal is more than the pain relief or the use of this. hope this helps, and I hope you havent found any since.

I am 54 years old. Goodness seeing my age inprint is a real awakening to reality. In 1994, I was in a MVA. I was hit head on. I know this because it was told to me. I had a cerebral contussion to the left front side of my head. As a result, I had short term memory loss for several days. The orbital area of my let eye was broken. I did not loose my eyesight. I had both feet broken. On the left foot most of the metatarsal bones were broken. It was explained to me that this was the type of injury people who jump out of airplanes with parachutes have due to the hard pressure sustained on the bottome of their feet when the land. In my case, it was the foot area of my car that pinned me in. My car was not equipped with airbags but, I was wearing a seatbelt. My head did take a jolt well, that was the steering wheel that was the cause for the eye injurty. Pins were inserted in the metatarsal of the foot area several weeks after the accident because I had a few surgeries in the beginning of my admit to the hospital. The toes on my left foot does not flex. My right patella was broken. The doctor felt I was too young at the time for a total knee replacement. A few weeks after the accident while in physical therapy, i had so much pain when I wanted to walk. It was aweful. One surgeon suggested a triple fusion to both my ankles. I did get another opinion and the other surgeon suggested a subtalur fusion to both feet. So, I had that done. My mother took great care of me because I could not walk. I was in nursing school at the time of the accident and had 4 semesters to complete and I would have had my BSN. Anyway, I did become and an RN with an associate's degree. At this time, I have 18 hours to complete my BSN. My problem now is, I am older, I still have my menstrual cycle. I have been on BCpills for years because my cycle was always heavy. Now I am still taking the pill because I believe menapause is knocking at my door. I was in another auto mobile accident and was hit on my side. Little did I know but I had a neck injury from my first accident however, I guess it wasn't severe enought to do anything about it. But the second accident showed that I had a previous whiplash. Since I was out of the hospital in 1994 discharged to my home, I never took pain medication. Never thought of it. I had such good care from my mother that I feel that helped me more than medication. However, in 2005, she was killed in a car accident as a passenger. Her sister past a stop sign. She got hit but not my mom. But she was the one who died. Since that time, my life has changed, I hurt physically and mentally. Antidpressants are not working for me. I do believe it is a hormone problem. I do take medication for pain since 2005. I work as a floor nurse in med-surge in a hospital and I hurt so much when I get off of work. It is hard for me. I can't take pain medication when I have to work, but, I am loosing my ambition to keep working. I am not sure if the pain medication is causing me to cry all the time or loneliness or hormone problems. I am not sure what to do. Since I have my female organs and not a problem with them. Hysterectomy is out of the question. I manage my pain but, the neck is a real problem. It controls my life. I want to be active again. I know I do have some physical limitations but, I want to be happy.
