Suboxone/personality Change (Top voted first)

Updated

Since my son started taking suboxone, he has developed hatred for me. We have always been very close, but now he is verbally abusive. It is only when he takes the drug. I should add, he sometimes drinks beer while on it. Has anyone else experienced this?

my fiance was on pain pills for 7 yrs on and off. i don't believe that he actually has had a true problem until the last 10 months because every other time he has come off of them he has not had any trouble doing so, no withdrawals or anything. but he has recently admitted that he has a problem and came off the pain pills for a wk or so and got put on suboxone. he says that this has been a huge difference for him and he loves it. the problem is, about two wks into him taking suboxone he has decided that he isn't sure he feels the same about me and has called off the wedding. he has also taken some time away from our relationship. i am really not sure what to do or think about this. we have been together for almost 2 yrs and this just completely came out of the blue. he takes two orange (suboxone, not sure the mg) pills a day. he says he knows he won't find anyone as good as me and he doesn't know why he is feeling this way. he also said that the feelings come and go. one day he feels like the luckiest guy in the world to have me and the next day he says he feels like something just isn't right. i don't know if it is the medicine or not, and if it is what should i do? i don't want to give up on this relationship, but i also want to give him his space. i need some help and some advice...please!!

my friend has been taking 8mg 4 times a day for about 4 months. Just this week his behavior went off the wall, he is like a different person. Can he be having a reaction to this medication. He has been complaining of severe headaches, his blood pressure is sky high and he is sweating. I am really worried about his severe behavior changes.

My husband became extremely abusive toward me within a month of beginning therapy on Suboxone. I talked to his doctor about the wild personality swings but the doctor says it isn't the Suboxone. I don't know what else it can be - hubby's drug tests are all clean. All I know is that he's not the man I married, the abusiveness has escalated to the point that I'm afraid of him and we've separated. Glad he's off the painkillers and other crap, but my once loving husband has turned into a psychotic manic-depressive SOB. In the matter of an hour he'll go from wanting to get married again to calling me every name in the book then throwing me around if we're in the same house.

Anyone taking pain meds, then switching to Suboxone is going to have serious mood changes Suddenly lonely. From my own experience of being addicted to pain meds and getting off of them for over 20 years now, and relationships. I have been in love with the same woman for around 18 years now. I have tried everything including suboxone. Methadone was and still is the answer for me. I experienced severe personality changes while on suboxone. That's one of the side effects written on the script. I became so angry that I blacked out. I have never done that in my life. However suboxone will effect everyone differently. My advice is to not smother him, as hard as it might be but if you dont want to lose this guy you might want to study up on the laws of attraction. and show him the side effects part about the personality changes. the answer is different for each person as far as treatment for opiates. suboxone is great for detox but he might want to switch to subutex for long term use. To me taking narcan and bupamorphine at the same time dosen't make sence.

I have been on Suboxone for 3 years and feel like a totally different person. I was always caring, funny and loving, but since being on Suboxone, I am filled with the blackest of hate. I am so angry and hate everyone. Dr. Kept saying it was depression or mood disorder. All he wants is the money. I am getting off this poison and will hopefully return to my old self again.

My wife has been on it since last fall. I feel hated and am constantly verbally abused. She goes into rages over nothing.
One minute she is loving me and two hours later is in a fit of rage!
It is getting to the point that I may have to get out of the marriage.
She is an extremely hard worker around the house and she has two extremes. Either being very loving or flat out hatred. Tonight because I never go anywhere and decided to take a couple hours me time, she ripped me apart on the phone because I wasn't home for her to go to the laundromat to dry some clothes. When I left she was going to take a nap.
I got home, she took the clothes out of her car and set them outside the street. Haven't heard from her since.
When she goes through these fits for no reason at all, she decides to waste our money on a hotel!
I think I am about done. I am 64 years old and am to the point I want nothing to do with anyone but my dogs!

My husband busted my head and didn't even feel bad about it. He threw my wedding ring in the toilet and flushed it. Then he said he was going to knock my teeth out . But thankfully he stopped. He doesn't take sub anymore and he's nice again.

OH my goodness..the alcohol makes it much worse. My bf was on this crap for a year and was so hard to deal with. It is a miracle drug only if taken for a short time. They become addicted to it also and getting off of it turns out to be harder then the original addiction. It is hell on earth. Hang in there and know it isn't you. All I had to do was look at him wrong and he would scream in my face. So hard. Just try not to take it personally .

I am in a relationship with a former oxy user. He began taking suboxen and at first it seemed like a miracle drug but he has been on it for awhile now and acts just like he did on oxys. He is moody abusive and doesn't want to do anything. I am at a loss. He isn't in a program..he buys it through other means. I don't expect a miracle answer..I think I merely need to vent. I have stuck by him through it all but when does it end? I'm afraid for him.

I used to have a close relationship with my daughter until she has taken this drug off and on over the past 6 years. We live 10 hours away from me and I can't wait to visit her but every time I come to visit it is like someone I don't know. We don't talk very much and she can be hateful at times. It truly breaks my heart. I wish she had never took pain pills ever. I know this drug is supposed to help but it has taken my daughter from me.

I am surprised to see so many people having trouble with mood swings and depression. I am the total opposite. Getting and staying off pain meds bring me into depression but the suboxone improves my mood, increases my energy level. I hate to think of life w/o it.

I'm going through the same exact thing and it's so frustrating because I don't know about you but I feel like it's me. But I know for sure it's not me. I need feedback to as to how to deal with these emotional outbursts. I've actually left this weekend because I don't want to be abused yet I love him so much and don't want to go through this and he doesn't think he's got a problem. This drug is a destroyer. Please somebody who used Suboxone and had the anger outbursts and had the loss of emotions and had the loss of libido please respond and let us know that it will and that even going through it you realize how we lived you through it.

I fully agree! I know from first hand experience. I was on buprenorphine for 12 years. My doctor would answer questions when I brought them up, relating to side effects and etc. But never fully informed me in the beginning. Anger and irritation are definitely side effects. I found myself getting, not just upset, but seriously pissed off at many things that a normal person would be able to let go. I have always been a neat freak and very tidy person, but not to the point that I would flip out over minor things. I found myself getting angry over bits of trash in the house, not in the trash can. A single dirty dish in the sink. The remote left in a different spot. People holding conversations in the supermarket in the middle of an aisle. (Although that one I got irritated about before I was ever on the drug lol). Trash on the side of the road I live on... I accused family members of being lazy when things weren't up kept every single minute of the day... things like these would send me into a rage... never physically violent but I would be a mental wreck. Now I did find that I felt better, but really was just a piece of my normal self. I had a very short fuse. 1 minute I would be great, the next... some jackass would pull out in front of me in the left lane, and go 50 mph. The next 1/2 of my day was shot! I just couldn't let things go I commend my wife for being the person she is and sticking with me... But being on the drug that long is NO GOOD! It's all about money to the doctors and big pharm. If it wasnt, the doctor would've forced me to ween off of it long LONG ago...

My husband has been taking suboxone since we met. I am not sure how he controlled his anger before but sometimes he can. I quickly noticed that he had mood swings and that his anger and irritability would peak about a half an hour after taking the Suboxone. We recently got married and we've been together 4 years now. He's always had some more of aggression not really towards me but just in general. I just thought it was his personality and it's actually kind of like that because I felt safe with him. Recently after he brought Suboxone home he seems to get angry at me about everything for anything. I can't do anything right and he tells me I am a selfish dumb b****. I think he's taking money from me. He stopped taking the drug at my request for about a month. Well he was still taking it but in very little amounts. I don't know if maybe his doctor told him not to do that anymore but he recently went back to his normal dose and he has been on fire. Four days ago he grabbed my face, got in my face and told me I was a selfish dumb b****, squeezed my head into the back of the couch and then yesterday we were going to see a friend and give him a ride somewhere and I asked if we could stop at a store that had a big sale that I really wanted to get something at and I would only be a minute. He completely went off the deep end, went into a fit of rage and turned into a psychotic a**hole you would have thought. I just told him that I've been cheating on him for the whole duration of our relationship. He started throwing stuff at me and I ran out of the house. He was going to take my van cuz I told him I wasn't going with him anymore and so I jumped in my van and he came outside screaming. He managed to get into the van before I was able to pull all the way out, so I ran back into the house and he came after me and shoved me and elbowed me in the back. And then he continued to scream at me and scream at me. I was honestly so petrified I didn't even know what to do. I adore this man. When he looks at me when he's still on those pills I honestly feel like I see the devil in him. I know it's Suboxone. Suboxone is the devil.
