Multaq Anyone Else Take It (Page 16)

Updated

Okay I will start off by saying this drug scares me because it has not been out for very long. I have Afrial Fib which is not behaving I can be 70 beats one min and regular and the next I will be at 190 and in atrial fib and flutter. this is my last chance at a med I have tried all the others I usually end up in the ER two or three times a week. I have had one ablation so far. If anyone else takes it please let me know what it is like. I am starting it on Tuesday.

I'm trying a topical magnesium spray. See if that helps...

The magnesium is talked about throughout the blog.
It helps to relax the arteries and stops any irregularities in my heartbeat. I do have HBP and take 10mg of Lisinopril for it, but it doesn't interact with the magnesium.

Has anyone experienced spikey type pains in the head whilst on multaq. I have reduced my dosage but wonder if its a reaction to weening off the meds a bit, also lots of bodily aches and pains.

I have been on multaq for 3 months . I have had 2 episodes of afib one 8 days the most recent I still am in afib for 5 days. I took 500 mg of magnesium soon after my first episode and was happy I converted into sinus rythm.Having a 2nd episode I recently tried adding 250 mg at night before bedtime and have my fingers crossed.Does the properties of multaq overtime prevent afib over time or is this medicine ineffective.

I have been taking Multaq since last summer and have found it to be ineffective. I am going to stop. I have also been taking magnesium for the last two weeks and that hasn't helped diminish my A-Fib episodes either. Ablation next?

mey rate for afib at rest is 75-82 beats per minute.I have
been to cleveland clinic last year.they did not recommend an ablation,If you choose to get one go to the pros cleveland. To many other hospitals are looking
for experience and revenue on your body. my input on doctors: they are always experimenting on your dime
I am an engineer If I were as incompetant as they are I

would be fired.Doctors tried to convince you they can help you but its only about money.

I did get tired i the when I first started taking it. Most of the time I feel good now, but if I feel tired on occasion, if I take a 30 min nap I useaully get over it. Basically, I have been very happy with this drug. Gayle

Gail: I have been happy with this drug--except for the cost. Just make sure you get liver tests every 6 months because there have been 2 reports of people taking this drug having liver failure.

Ablation seems kind of like a frontal lobotomy....I had one and was announced cured by the "electrician" doctor two years ago. A year ago I passed out and have Afib again.
My choices were to have another one or try medication...I elected to try Multaq and swallowed the pills for about 60 days. When my hands broke out with welts and sores, I figured my body did not appreciate the new venom, so I stopped the dosage of 400 mg twice a day. I still have Afib, but am living with it. The magnesium may be a placebo, but it's better than taking venom. The blood clots are the real issue, so take your blood thinner.

I just found out about the liver issue. I will be discussing with my cariologist ASAP. I'm alos taking Prodaxain preparation for my 3rd CV. I never heard about magnesium re: AFib. Any references available besides anecdotal? I also never read about itching until today. I have occasional itching (once every week or two), especially on my legs, usually at night, that has no logical reason for occurring. Another topic for the Doc.

I have been on Multaq since 12-29-09 and it was the last resort after 4 ablations. I have been in rhythm and at 53 beats a minute since I began taking Multaq. I do not like the price and worry about the long term effects but for now all is well.

I have a good price break through ExpressScripts, 1-866-718-7955. I don't know about uninsured availability. I was $40/mo.; now $60 for 3 mos.

I've been Googling "magnesium and Atrial fibrillation" to follow up on my earlier post. This study is the most comprehensive I've seen. It does involve post-menopausal women, but I think the conclusions are relevant across gender. I know I will be discussing this with my cardiologist. http://www.jacn.org/cgi/content/full/26/2/121

My cardiologist recommends an ablation should the multaq not work as it was designed to. Where did you have the ablations done?

You need to REALLY research this procedure before deciding to go ahead. This site I'm posting has some great discussion about various treatments: www.stopafib.org You need to look at the success ratio of the individual Dr., not the record overall. That is just an average, and each Dr. has their own success rate. There are also a variety of ways to do the ablations, including the MiniMaze. There is no easy answer to your question, and it is unfortunately up to us patients to do our own research to find the best practitioners. Has the cardioversion option come up yet?

To anyone who might be interested. How are your thyroids working?? Mine is overactive, otherwise the TSH results have been so low .0.08, 0.17, 0.27 etc (below the reference range of 0.35-5.50 depending on a lab-each lab seem to have diff reference ranges--all other T4 and T3 etc tests seems to have been perfect) since '94 when they began testing my thyroid. Finally found an endocrinologist who said it needs to be treated in order for me to even think about ablation (and I am thinking about it seriously)--I might have to have a couple of ablations before it works since I am in chronic A-Fib. I copied all of my blood work for this doctor and she said that the TSH level of 0.17 I had 12/99 could have triggered my A-Fib when it was 1st diagnosed. Last July an electrophysiologist sent me to this doctor and I was just a fraction over the bottom, like 0.38 so nothing was done at that time--last week I saw an electrophysiologist at Cornell Univ in New York City for an opinion on ablation - he recommended I take care of the thyroid--one option is medications which have bad side effects, operation or RAI radioactive iodine cocktail and that is what I will probably end up having - eventually the thyroid will become hypoactive (underactive) as the RAI will destroy the thyroid (this RAI will only stick to the thyroid cells and nowhere else in the body-cancer of it is minimal) and then I will go on medication and I was told that hypoactive thryoid is easy to treat. I also asked what should the OPTIMAL TSH LEVEL BE AND WAS TOLD BETWEEN 1.00 AND 2.00. Sorry for the long winded what-ever you call it. The moral of the story is unless one is on a ball about one's health, which I was not at the time-believed what doctors said "don't worry all is well" -some doctors seem to put these problems on the back burner--thus all of these uncalled for health issues. Have a great day everybody!!

Your symptons sound much like mine. I began by thinking what I was feeling was anxiety. I latter discovered afib and flutter. I completed my ablations and what seemed like every other rhythm medicine. I was cardio versioned more times than I want to count all could not keep me in rhythm. I began multaq after my last ablation (#4) and have been in rhythm with no side effects ever since.

best blood thiner is nattokinse. I use pills from drdavidwilliams.com ( it is actually a food , part of a Japanse diet ) ingredients is fermented soybean.
I've been using for 5 years and there are no side effects. Also you never over thin your blood such as can happen with warafin.
