Multaq Anyone Else Take It (Page 17)
UpdatedOkay I will start off by saying this drug scares me because it has not been out for very long. I have Afrial Fib which is not behaving I can be 70 beats one min and regular and the next I will be at 190 and in atrial fib and flutter. this is my last chance at a med I have tried all the others I usually end up in the ER two or three times a week. I have had one ablation so far. If anyone else takes it please let me know what it is like. I am starting it on Tuesday.
Hello. I have been on Multaq for 6 months with no side effects that are worrisome. I still have episodes now and then - like now - and they can last a day or two. It isnt perfect but beats the persistant AFIB I had before. Good luck - maybe it will be just the thing for you.
my episodes last 1 to 2 weeks .I have been taking magnesium and converted once to sinus rythym and had afib again 3 weeks later .So I added 250 mg of potasium and converted into sinus rythym. My afib on both occassions was triggered after intensive sports. Does any one have any suggestions . I won"t give up paddleball.,and I can play while in afib.J
I was on Multaq for 6 months before I had a cardioversion. I did not go out of afib from the drug, but since they did a cardioversion, i have been in rhythm and I am still on the drug. I have very few side effects from it. Before they did the cardioversion, I was in the hospital for two days for tests. The doctor at that time was also giving me a lot of lasix. He said the more dehydrated I was when they did the cardioversion, the better it would work. It turned out to be true, the cardioversion has worked. The drug seems to be keeping me in rhythm. I just had a liver panel after being on the drug a year and it was fine as well.
Can Nattokinase be taken while using Plavix every other day? I asked my doctor and pharmacist and neither knew about it.
multaq has not consistantly kept me in sinus rythym. Doctor decided to take me off of multaq and start a new drug rythmol. Has anyone have experience with this drug also I npow take a beta blocker metoprolol
How much magnesium do you take? I just started mag citrate 150 2 times day. I have been trying to find a basic level that others may be using.
Do u take mag citrate? I have heard that easiest to digest. How much a day? I am also post menopausal - and want to take the least amount of everything I can. I HATE taking meds or supplements - but am on the Multaq/Cardizem train.
Hi Maebellino, I am taking 250 mg. magnesium twice a day, it seems to help. Unfortunately I've been on Multaq for 16 months, they told me I'd have ablation within a year but that doesn't seem to be happening. Multaq has so many side effects I'd love to get off it but won't until I have ablation and see how that goes. Good luck.
Havent posted in about 4 months but just wanted to check back in. I have been on Multaq twice a day and Metroprolol once a day. Prior to the Multaq I was going into prolonged Afib episodes about once a month. Since going on the Multaq back in Dec I have not been in Afib since. A few skips here and there but nothing major. Another reason I wanted to post is that my cardiologist spoke of a new procedure where they basically sew a diaphragm in your hearts atrium where a clot would typically form. This prevents clots from forming thereby getting rid of the major side effect of Afib (stroke). It doesnt however do anything for the Afib mind you it just removes the stroke possibility. Just wanted to share with you folks. Best of luck to all, Im hoping to extend this 5 months to 6 and more Afib free.
Please see my note to Suzanne regarding dosage of magnesuim.R
I have been taking multaq.pradaxa for 1 month after my ablation.I have extreme bloating and acid reflux even my back hurts from the bloating.I have also been on plavix for 14 months.I don't know which is worse the a fib or the drugs. What a mess. After the ablation I have been in and out of sinus rhythm many times. The doc says its normal and will do this for about 6 weeks. These drugs are killing my stomach with bloating, acid reflux, diarhea and back aches.
Its called a watch mans patch
Hi Eddie, after being put on Multaq I also got acid reflux, never had it before. The doctor put me on Tecta, 40 mg. 2x a day. It worked well and I have been able to come of it after a couple of months. I have also had extreme cramping in my hands, feet and shins since being on Multaq. For the cramping I drink tonic water, it has quinine in it and settles down the cramping. Multaq works fairly well, I have AF episodes occasionally, but the side effects are brutal. Good luck.
This message is for Eddie. If you have so many problems with Multaq why not just tell the doctor you want off - I was on it for one week and got bloated like anything, short of breath and B/P cliimbed very high - this was done for cardio version purposes which did not work anyway - I would not touch these drugs with a ten foot pole - what I was told by an electrophysiologist at Cornell Medical Center, NY that in my case I might need more than one ablation when that time comes -
having been in chronic A-fib now for about 2 1/2 years.
I have been taking Tiazac for amost 8-10 years (not the generic Diltiazem-that did not work as well) and that sort of slows your A-Fib and I have also been on Coumadin for some 8 years now. With Coumadin you have to have the blood tests at least once a month for the INR or more often if need be. Next week I am having my overactive thyroid fixed, hopefully, with a Radio Active Iodine capsule - as the doctors claim low TSH has a lot to do with A-Fib as well as anything else in your body. We'll see what happens. Have a nice day.
Replying to "hand etc . cramps" since on Multaq.....is it possible the carpal tunnnel x 2 hands is really from Multaq? I have been taking it for a year - mixed results - but have REALLY been troubled with nightime hand numbness and arm pain. I truely thought it was CT or fibromyalgia.....never ever thought it might be the Multaq til this post. Hmmmm....
Thank you I will call the doc Mon,but I think its a combination of drugs multaq, plavix and pradaxa a new coumadine no testing.
I have been on multaq a year now and it has been working fine. I do have some stomach upset from time to time, but I take a DanActive (look for it in the yougrt section of your grocery store) and that seems to help. I broke the multaq in half and took that 2 x a day for awhile as I was afraid of it. Gradually, I moved up to the 400 2x a day and I was fine. I was tired in the beginning, but that has seemed to pass. When I read the problems folks have had with multaq, I am surprised as I have had very few problems since I have been on it. Good luck! Gayle
Did you have the ablation yet? I had one and since then my a-fib has increased and lasts longer. I talked to a Cardiologist from Loma Linda Hosp., California and he said that is usually what happens with ablations.
This is to Ann. Hi Ann, that's very disturbing that after ablation your AF is worse! I am waiting to go in for my first ablation, they sometimes tell you that it may take 2 procedures to "fix" it. If I knew mine was going to be worse after albation, I wouldn't bother having it. Has anyone else had ablation? Could you let us know your experience with it? Thanks.
