How Long Before Testopel Pellets Start Working? (Page 23)
UpdatedJust had Testopel pellets inserted in my backside. Forgot to ask doctor how long until they take effect. He's out of town.
John here. It's been 9 weeks since received my first 10 testopel pellets inserted and I have mixed feelings about its effectiveness. It took 3 weeks until I began to feel the effects of testopel. I had come off Androgel and began to crash. I'm debating on trying another round or discussing alternative options with my physician. Once testopel began to work it was great I certainly noticed an improvement in energy and strength. I have suffered from depression for years now and needed to make some adjustments to my prescription regiment. The problem I'm having is that i feel after only 9 short weeks that the pellets effectiveness are decreasing and decreasing fast. I'm going to call my urologist tomorrow but would appreciate your input or experience with testopel. Have you used it and found that it runs out before the three weeks are up? If so how do you and your doctor improve your levels while waiting for the three month mark to go by? Has anyone used testopel in the past and found weekly doses to be more effective? Thanks in advance.
John
John, stay the course let each of your doctors know how your feeling. It takes some time for your body to adapt. the pellets are a better choice over gels. just be persistent with your doctors remember many of them are pressed for time as well so make sure you get the attention you deserve. Get well, stay well!
I had six 200mg pellets from Designer Drugs inserted yesterday in three channels of two. The pellets cost $160 and the insertion by my uro $150. The procedure was painless and I no pain today...just a little sore. I can't tell any real difference yet though.
Has anyone had any Testopel supply issues with their doctor? My doctor has canceled two appointments on me b/c of "supply issues". I am now four months overdue and not feeling great. I can't imagine this product has such a severe supply issue.
GrantJournal: It CAN be a problem. I had the same thing happen to me in two (2) previous scheduled implant procedures. Doc realizes how important this is to me (one testicle removed in 2000 and testosterone level down to 97), so his nurses worked hard to resolve issue. They had gone as far as searching out other sources for the RX and eventually were able to supply. I receive ten (10) every three (3) months and am scheduled for my next implantation a week from tomorrow, hoping all is ready. If you are four (4) months overdue right now, encourage your Doc to find alternative sources. Good luck.
After I had 14 pellets my soreness lasted about 7-10 days.
GrantJournal- Supply problem issues? 4 months overdue for a new implant? Is this doctor a general practitioner or a urologist who does a considerable amount of testosterone therapy? I'm scheduled for 14 pellet implant every 3 months. Been getting it on this schedule since 7/2014. If I have concern I'm seen right away. No supply excuses. My test goes up to 975 shortly after implant & by end of 3rd month it's around 640. Your doctor doesn't sound committed to T therapy. I'd find me a young-ish urologist who knows advantages of T therapy and puts your treatment and results as a priority. Good luck.
I just had 20 pellets inserted last Friday and had no problem with supply issues. I asked my urologist about a shortage and he said not that he is aware of. I get 20 every 4 months and it works out very well for me. I haven't noticed an increase in energy yet but that's normal for me. I usually notice a difference around day 10 or so.
Brian -- Am glad you are doing well and that you have NOT experienced a difficulty in supply of TESTOPEL pellets. As I posted a couple weeks ago, I was to receive my ten (10) pellets last week. I went in found out my insurance would only cover cost of six (6). I had choice of just getting the six (6) or paying for the additional four (4) myself, which came to $308.00. There was literally no 'thinking time', as Doc wanted to see if I could get by with smaller amount and did five (5) at one implantation and I did not have nearly the positive results as previously. So .... each three (3) months, I must pay the $308.00 myself. I'm not complaining. I'm happy I'm in a position that I can afford to do this, but just doesn't seem the insurance policy should be able to do this. You getting 14 -- can't imagine that. And someone mentioned that they receive twenty (20). That, too, I can't imagine. I am so much a BETTER PERSON in many many ways after receiving my implants and NOT so good of a person to be around as time approaches for implantation draws near. Continued good luck to all who are receiving and/or considering this procedure. I have nothing but "good" to say for having it available to me. With just one testicle, I truly need this supplement to hormone that the 'surviving testicle' tries to provide me. P.S. OBVIOUSLY, the testicle being removed was NOT as a result of cancer. It was from chronic prostate infection that resulted in actually 'eating thru' part of my testicle, causing, as you can imagine, tremendous pain. Take care ~~
Brian your insurance problem is interesting. As I said earlier I get 14 every 3 months paid by Medicare. Even then, the doctor said if I wanted more he would petition Medicare or I can pay for them but I thought he said $150. I've always thought, obviously wrongly by your comments, that insurance companies would match Medicare. Wonder how many Nancy Pelosi's & Harry Reid's plan cover? Wouldn't be surprised it's not covered at all even in your case.
Stronger -- Sometimes, I fear, it's better that I DON'T know all of the things that happen in the capitol. Good luck in all of your health concerns ~~
Bob
Stronger,
I currently have bcbsok for my insurance. They pay 90% and I pay 10%. I just paid $208.74 out of pocket for the procedure I had last Friday with 20 pellets of testopel. I don't know if insurance companies are starting to limit the number of pellets they will cover or not. I was told a couple years ago there is no maximum with my insurance but I know there are with doctors. I might just find out that is the case when I'm due for more pellets in August. I asked the doctor on Friday what is the deal with the testopel shortage and he didn't say much. I just told him I've read where that is an issue now.
Unfortunately, my Doc does NOT implant more than ten (10). Doesn't feel over ten (10) makes difference. He's a good guy and I've been with him for almost 50 years, and it would take a lot for me to discontinue going to him. Been thru much with him, including 13 kidney stones, vasectomy and testicle removal. Wish I didn't have to pay the $308.00 for the additional four (4) pellets, but truly feel it is worth it, the way my entire physical and emotional demeanor improves once I get the ten (10) pellets. Take care guys !
Sorry, but you don't need a fat butt. I'm lean (about 12% body fat) and have no trouble with testopel. Sure I'm sore for about a week but it's not intolerable. After 2 days can sleep on the insertion side with only mild discomfort. Maybe in just used to it. I've been on pellets for almost 3 years. For me the worst part is the lidocaine shots before the insertion. It took about 5 insertions to get me in the right dodge and cycle. I feel better now than I did in my 30s. It may not be for everyone but it works better for me. I had tried androgel and objectified inj's. and wouldn't go back.
try growth hormone therapy in conjunction with t therapy..
I got my last round of testopel pellets on April 24th and I've had 5 pellets come out in the past 2 days. My doctor said it's pretty uncommon for this to happen after 6 weeks but it has with me. Hopefully I will be able to get my next round of pellets sooner the next round. Went to the doctor this morning and there is no infection or anything odd other than losing pellets. Those things are like gold!
Brian -- Seems strange to me that this would happen after such a length of time. Were you doing anything especially active or strenuous when this happened? You must have known when it happened since you say that five (5) came out! You are definitely right that those things are "like gold". I'd be surprised if insurance will permit an earlier implantation this next time. They monitor things so closely. I'm having to pay for three (3) of my pellets now @ $307.00. Good luck, my friend. I hope it works out for you.
Bob,
I was just outside kicking a ball with my son and I felt in that area and it felt weird and there was half a pellet already sticking out. It came out and 3 more followed while I was putting a bandage on it. I took the bandage off this morning and another one was sticking out this morning. I've had a couple pellets come out before but it was always within a couple weeks after implant. I don't know if I will have to take shots or what for awhile to get me to 3 months. These insurance companies are pretty strict like you said.
Brian -- The activity with your son would or could be strenuous, but after that length of time, it indeed seems strange. I hope you contacted Doc about it when it happened, as then he would be more likely to give you an injection every other week to supplement what pellets you have remaining. Still, the insurance company may "resist" if asked to pay for the supplement. I'm not sure. As always, most likely will depend on the individual insurance company. Another thing that I do regularly is to take ZINC supplements twice a day OTC. After some research and also seeing it on the board here, other guys with 'problems' had taken the ZINC. I'm not sure if it helps, but my Doc said it would do no harm. I have but one testicle as had one removed in 2000, because of an out of control prostate infection that ended up "eating through" the testicle. I was in so much pain and though Doc said he knew I wouldn't WANT to do that procedure, it ended up as me having no choice because I was becoming debilitated with the pain. I don't know how old you are, Brian, but I'm closing in on 70 and have BPH, also. Some (not all) men have found that being prescribed the DAILY Cialis helps with the getting up and going to the bathroom several times a night. My Doc suggested trying that and it most certainly reduced that activity, plus the added benefit that Cialis gives a guy in the bedroom. Some things for you to think about, but depending on your age and other factors to be discussed with your Doc, there might be some help for you in some of the things I've mentioned. Sorry to have "dragged on", but I feel a kindred spirit with guys going through these things and it always helps me when I read of someone who offers THEIR experiences and thoughts. Hope it helps. Hang tough. Good luck. If I can help with anything further, just post.

My implants was also painful for a week or slightly more. The next implantation was a couple of days ago on my oyher cheek. Very little pain and little bruising. Nothing like the first time.
