Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?

Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.

Thanks!

It took 3 hours to start working for me! I can't believe how quickly everyone says it works. The other preps in previous colonoscopies worked much quicker. It made me nauseated and chilled. I don't know how I'm going to get through it in the morning. I'm worried about being finished in time for my appointment. I guess I better start much earlier. Does anyone know why it would take such a long time to start working? I followed the directions to the letter.

First time user of Suprep. Taste: well, my advice is to try to drink as much of the mixture of Suprep and water as possible without stopping. That being said, unless you are accustomed to drinking large quantities of fluids, this will be difficult to accomplish. I followed each 16 oz. "dose" with a white cranberry juice chaser. That was effective at cutting through the aftertaste. What to expect: I had very little wait time before the product took effect. 20 mins. at the most. DO NOT plan on leaving your house at any time during this cleanse process. Buy hygienic wet wipes prior to beginning the cleanse, your posterior will thank you. Hydrate yourself thoroughly for a couple days before using Suprep. Sports type drinks will help maintain your electrolyte balance. Expect to feel an overall chill during the Suprep cleanse process. No one prepped me for this and it was the most uncomfortable part of the evening.

Just did my first bottle of Suprep; mixed it with ginger ale, followed with either ginger ale or water, filling the 16 oz container 4 times after drinking the diluted prep. Didn't mind the taste at all; worked after 30 minutes, and 1 and 1/2 hours after starting the prep I am completely cleaned out! Amazing; no cramping, no vomiting, no nausea -- just a minor full feeling that really doesn't stay with you too long. I made sure the ginger ale was flat because I don't like carbonated beverages at all. This has been the best prep I've ever used and I would recommend it. I take the second bottle tomorrow a.m. and it should be fine as I'm already completely clean! By the way, I did 2 1/2 days of clear liquids and I'm sure that reduced my "sitting" time significantly, too.
Also, had folks praying that the prep would work well for me, and God was watching out! So thankful.

This was my first experience with bowel prep and it was not nearly as bad as I expected. The first dosage last night went down smoothly, and it started workng within 25 minutes of starting the prep. Within 2-1/2 hours everything was out. This morning it was harder to get down, and I had to force myself to finish the suprep. Again it started working quickly.
I would say it tastes like very salty grape drink. It;s not exactly pleasant but since it's only 16 oz. you get through it. Before I started the "only water" part, I thoroughly rinsed my mouth out with cold water to eliminate the Suprep taste.
My only negative "side effect" was a mild/moderate headache after drinking each of the two preps. I took a tylenol once I was "emply" and that took care of it.
As others have said, I think it helped that I started eating a low fiber diet a few of days earlier. I wasn't told to do this but got the idea from other posts by people online.
One thing I stopped doing was reading all the horror stories that people post! All it does is scare you and if you are a relatively healthy person these dire stories are not going to happen to you.
By the way, my colonoscopy procedure experience was nothing worse than a delightful nap. My appointment was for noon and I was on my way home at 1:30. I have not experienced the "amnesia factor" that people talk about either.

OK. Im writing this because I was freaking out about taking this because of everything I have read. Im now convinced only negative people post on these forums so I decided to post my experience in the event your stressing and have anxiety about your colonoscopy and the bowel cleanse (suprep). 1st, im a 49 yr. old M and am going for GI issues as opposed to just a scan for polyps . Would have had to go anyways at 50 so my GI said to go now to see what's going on with my colon. I followed a LOW FIBER diet 2 days before procedure and of course the liquid diet the day before. I placed both btls of suprep in fridge along with a 33.8 oz. SMART WATER ( electrolytes) . At 6:00 PM the night before procedure ( set for 9:00am) I mixed the 6 oz. bottle with 10 more oz. of the cold ( smart ) water to the line on the cup that comes in the kit. I used a big ( thicker) straw to mix it and drink. I did the whole 16 oz. in 3 parts. Didn't taste anywhere near as horrible as i heard even though i bit on lemon slices in between. I swear to you, it wasn't that bad for me. Then I drank a room temperature 16 oz. water within next 15-20 minutes. I was told to drink 2 16oz btls within an hour. I started my 2nd 16oz water around 30 minutes after finishing suprep mix, and felt my first urge. all I can say is it liquefies everything so just be prepared that you feel like your peeing out your butt.. just being honest ...that's it. No pain, No bloating , and No nausea ( other than drinking a total of 48 oz. of liquid in an hour) . my first bout lasted around 2 hours total and must have went 12x to 15x so just stay close to toilet. Again it was just pure liquid coming out and it was 100% OK .. I now believe some people experience chills or teeth chattering from what I read because they drank all 48 oz. of "chilled" liquid on an empty stomach , so I drank room temp water ( again, I used SMART WATER) after the 1st dose which was chilled. slept from like 11:00 to 4:00 am ( set clock to take 2nd dose). this time no lemons needed and i drank the 16 oz. mixture in 4 parts through the straw this time. started 2nd bout literally within 15-20 minutes and was clear to slightly yellow. drank two more room temp btls over next hour and left for procedure around 8:00 am. I was in FULL PANIC and ANXIETY mode. just my makeup I guess. They took me back to nurses area ( prep area) to sign some more forms, go over my med history and meds, got undressed, put on gown, and laid on the bed. Nurse put in the IV ( fluids) , set up the BP , o2, and heart monitor stuff and then anesthesiologist came to talk to me and lay out how it all works. he saw my stress and anxiety level and gave me a mild sedative in the IV to calm me down. it worked right away and took that edge off. here is the best part for me, they wheeled me to the procedure area , told me to lay on my left side, and my DR says, Ill see you in recovery room .. that's it.. I went out, came to in around 90 minutes and it was over.. Nothing.. I promise you.. don't do to yourself what i did and research and read and make yourself sick.. that's why I took the time now to share my experience.. and by the way, one medium size polyp was removed and 2 biopsies taken. have follow up in two weeks with GI to go over.

I did the Suprep last week. The taste was tolerable-sweet, salty, berry flavored with a slight cough syrup aftertaste. Because of that aftertaste I tried to drink it with as few pauses as possible.
The prep worked very well. I had zero discomfort.

compared to trylite/go lightly/etc.. Suprep is fantastic! It tastes like watered down cough syrup (not as thick, though). After drinking the first initial 16oz (containing the 6oz bottle), I felt extremely nasuasated (spell check)... but as long as I set up right, or even stood up for about 5-10 minutes for it to pass my stomach, I didn't get sick (vomit). It works rather quickly, with no discomfort after it passed my stomach.

Used the suprep yesterday...it is like cough syrup, but not thick. I have an easily set off gag reflex, so was relieved that I could tolerate this. I just sipped it slowly, holding my nose helped some. The box said to use one bottle of the mixture the night before procedure, and the second bottle the next morning. My dr. said to use both the night before, 4 hours apart. I saw results within 5 minutes of the first dose! I never had the "old" stuff, but I'm convinced this is much better. Very satisfied with it. One tip...if you're preparing for colonoscopy (or whatever) that requires this cleansing, use baby wipes and diaper rash ointment to avoid soreness. It helped a lot!

Having the same issue now. I managed to get the first dose down and it worked within a half hour. Been drinking water as directed after the first dose. But was definitely nauseous throughout. Now working on second dose and I've had to remain close to the bathroom for fear that I'm going to vomit after each sip. Don't think I'll be able to finish this. Trying to decide between the lesser of two evils...drink this stuff and vomit it back up, or not drink it and potentially have to go through this whole process over again. Has anyone done this and been fine only taking half the second dose? I'm already mostly clear after the first dose.

If I have an 830 am colonscopy, when time frames should I be taking the 1st and 2nd doses of suprep?

I'm taking my second dose of Suprep now, and it is definitely difficult to drink. The salty flavor is over powering and is making it hard for me. However, I ate lightly for the two days before and my prep has been perfectly fine so far.

Don't psych yourself out, just be calm and know that you can handle it and it's only one night of being a bit uncomfortable. Make it fun - get a book, bring your computer, listen to music. It'll be over soon, and you'll soon have some peace of mind when you know what's going on in your body.

Good luck everyone!

I tried it and it worked really well. By the time you complete the third 16 oz. cup of water you will feel it start to work. You have to be able to tolerate the taste and discomfort associated with drinking significant amount of water within 1hr. I found myself cleansing for about 4hrs with each dose.

Stay away from this product. It poisoned me so badly that after a week, I am still quite ill. Immediate pain all over; splitting headache, vomiting (no b.m. at all), then two days later, diarrhea, continued weakness. Much bloating and gas after four days! I WILL NEVER EVER TAKE THIS PRODUCT AGAIN; take the warnings seriously and doublecheck with your gastoenterologist for an alternative. I will.

I had my 1st Colonoscopy today, obviously prepped with Suprep last night. I have an easily-upset gag reflex and while this prep wasn't high cuisine, it was very tolerable by comparison to drinking the 100+ oz. of other salt-preps. The taste is close to a grape/cotton candy'ish flavor but the salt is what is overwhelming. I managed to drink the 16oz. in 3 gulps with swigs of water in between. Took me less than 2 minutes to down the whole thing.
I had no nausea, no vomiting, no cramps - NONE! Visits to the throne began approximately 10 minutes later and 90 minutes later I was completely finished and running clear. I did repeat the process with the 2nd bottle 6 hours later - same results.
This IS doable, people! And it sure does beat the alternative!
Good luck to all.

Here I sit in stinky vapor, without a roll of toilet paper, Suprep is working I can feel it tingle, in this atmosphere I can no longer linger!

Used Suprep for my first colonoscopy. Smells like dimetapp, but the saltiness is overwhelming. Works best if you hold your breath while drinking it, then drink something else to cut the salty aftertaste while you are still holding your breath. First treatment gave me horrible stomach cramps, but second treatment was painless.
Be sure to get on a non fibrous diet at least 3 days before, but I stopped (per doc's instructions) 5 days early. Ate only refined food until 2 days out, then soft diet, then liquid the day before. Made the prep easier.

The first thing I would tell you is try not to go crazy reading all the horrific comments. It was hard enough getting over the fear of the side effects. I am scheduled for a colonoscopy this afternoon and finished taking the second prep of Suprep early this mornng. Yes, it does taste like salty cough syrup but it is much easier to get down than the prep I had to take 17 years ago. I did not experience nausea or cramping. Of course everyone is different so that is why we should never fully assume what our symptoms will be. I would recommend staying quite close to a bathroom though. I would also recommend that you begin to hydrate yourself properly 1 - 2 days before. I chose to drink water and Lemon Powerade to avoid dehydration, especially after my first prep last night. I foolishly got so worried about the side effects that I was contemplating not taking it. I decided to "man up" and put my trust in God. Making sure that everything is OK is far greater than our fears. Not knowing if everything is OK can have far greater consequences. All the best to everyone having this procedure.

I googled "how long does Suprep take to work" (so that I could plan accordingly) and I came up with this sight.

Many of the comments here scared me. So I wanted to offer some insight....really, it's not that bad. At least for me.

Insite: I'm a very healthy (at least on the outside, about to get my insides checked) 41 year old guy. I'm having this done because my father's family side of colons are like a ninja...a silent but deadly killer. Plus my 33 year old sister, who might just be the healthiest eater on the planet (puts me to shame, and people make fun of my good eating habits) just had her rotor rooter exam done, and they already found a pre-cancerous polyp. We all have to die way, but I'd prefer dying in my sleep at age 99, (but preferably not while behind the wheel of a car) over colon cancer. So an early colonoscopy for me.

After reading all these comments, I thought for sure that the prep would taste like I was drinking rotten blood mixed with old bait. Or mothballs mixed with motor oil. But really, after not eating anything for over 24 hours, it just tasted like kool-aid on steroids. Took me back the the old days of drinking "bug juice" at camp when I was a kid. The kind that some teenage counselor who failed measurements made with a one to one ratio of bug juice mix to water. In fact, my doctor's instructions told me I should drink the first 8 oz in the first 15 minutes, and I found it hard not to consume the whole thing all at once because I was so hungry. As a side note, I considered chewing on the cardboard box the prep came in.

No chills, but I imagine that if you drink 48 oz of cold fluid, you are going to be cold. It doesn't seem like rocket science. Your tummy does not have a fur coat (lets hope). If you stick 48 ounces of water at 35 degrees in your stomach, and it comes out the back end moments later at 98 degrees, you are going to be cold to the core. Personally, I just drank it luke warm and had no issues.

No headache. Well, a low grade one. Maybe that had to do with the six beers I drank the night before to try and quell the fear of the upcoming day. My bet is that most people's headache came from not eating anything for the last 24 hours. This "not eating thing" is the hardest part for me. Did I mention I was hungry?

DO make sure that you wash your "area" as well as possible after every movement so you don't get diaper rash. Use something wet.

Not sure where the "no fiber" thing comes from. I never heard of this, and I eat a very high fiber diet compared to the average American. When I read people stopped taking fiber 3-4 days in advance, I was a little worried. Would I explode, or just get doubled over in cramps and call 911 from the shearing pain? But it hasn't caused any issues at all. In fact, "no fiber" makes no sense at all to me. Fiber makes thing move more quickly down there. So long as you drink plenty of fluids- in which case it acts more like concrete. I'd bet it made it easier. I already have several easy movements a day. Seems like if you had a couple of bricks stuffed up there from eating processed food, it'd be harder to pass a quick time.

So, now I sit on the pot at with my second treatment of colon blow going through my system at oh-dark-thirty, with my bowel movements sounding more like an elephant is peeing in the toilet (as well as the appearance of pee), I feel relieved that this whole thing was super easy. Except for the not eating part. That was the hardest part. In case I forgot to mention that.

Here's to hoping we all have an internal organ we can be proud of...

Why are you not supposed to drink alcohol prior to using SUPREP? A little Vodka might get me through this easier.
