Suboxone Hard Withdrawals

Updated

The withdrawals I'm having from taking the Suboxone is kicking my ass. I am not sure what to do. I'm guessing I jumped the gun in taking it. If anyone knows what I could do, please help me. Right now all I can think of is counting down the hours.

Sounds like you were not under a doctors care, so you did not taper off of the medication correctly.

Keep taking it. What you are experiencing is call percipitated withdrawal, and it means that there is still too much of whatever drug you're quitting bound to your opiate receptors. Depending on your metabolism, it could take two more days to two weeks. It also depends what you were taking. You're going to wake up one morning and take the suboxone and feel wonderful so stick with it. Whiskey helps. Take off work and drink wiskey until you feel better.

It is VERY dangerous to mix Whiskey with Suboxone! This combination can be fatal!

I know mixing alchohol with bup isn't good for, it usually never is with opiates, but unless you drink so much you're vomitting, you're not going to die. If you've ever been through precipitated withdrawal you'd know it's worth the risk. A safer approach would be benzodiazapines, but beware that they will potentiate suboxone making the same does many time more potent. A doctor would probably put you on Diazapam (Valium). If you can't get Diazapam, Lorazapam would be next best (Atavan). Try to stay away from Alazopram (Xanax) and Chlonazepam (Klonipin) As they will potentiate opiates much more and may not relieve WD symptoms any better than Valium or Atavan.

Andrea hunnie how long did u wait to take suboxone? U need to wait till u feel like ur gunna die then wait a little more then take a subo.you need to give urself time for the opiates to get off ur recptors in your brain. If u don't u go thro a an even worse withdrawel than just gettin off dope. So my suggestion if u still feel wd's even while ur takin sobos to stop everything all together for about a day or too. Take xanax drink lots of water then go back on your sobo regimen. U should feel human. Ur still gunna jonze for it but that's what ur will power is for. I've been there and its hard. But my fiance made the same mistake u did and same thing happen. Don't listen to these ppl about na. Listen to yourself and once your on the sobos for a month ull feel like a new person. Good luck on recooperation

I am very confused. What I am getting from all of these posts, is that if you do not go through the first part of withdrawl off of your opiat, than you will withdrawl terribly off suboxine and if you do it right, you shouldn't have a problem weaning of Suboxine? I am wondering this because I took Suboxine the day I ran out of painkillers and never looked back, a couple times I took painkillers, once for an entire week, then went right back to suboxine. I take some every evening, but that is it...is 24 hours long enough?? Also, you should not be shooting this stuff, if you are doing that, you have much bigger problems to worry about than weaning yourself off this, please go to a treatment center!

You're still having Precipitated Withdrawal but with short acting opioids like hydrocodone or oxycodone, the only thing you'll feel is slight nausea depending how soon afterwards you take the suboxone. I only need half a day on oxy to take suboxone. If you're on a relatively high dose of methadone for months, however, the withdrawals are going to be much much worse. For me, I didn't get that nausea when coming off of methadone, if was more like normal withdrawals but more intense.

I am a recovering addict/alcoholic. I had back surgery in July (Fusion & 2 lamenictomys). I take 2 40m Oxy's a day and 6 10/325 Norco's. My back is ok, but i have severe nerve damage down my left leg. I take the meds as prescribed, so thats not the issue. The problem is..I am not the same person on these meds. My family, and myself for that matter, want the old me back. I want to be off opiates. I feel sorta odd at AA meetings, although my sponsor is fully aware of the meds i take. I feel like an outsider. Anyhow, I took Suboxone years ago when i was detoxing off the phentynl pain patch. It helped the withdraws a bit, although i still threw up for 30 days. I think i was on a very very low dose. Anyhow, I want off the opiates, not for abuse reasons, but i want the old me back, and some sort of pain control at the same time. Can anyone out there relate? Or have any experience in this matter?

I went through a very similar situation, I was on pain management due to my spinal problems for over 5 years and felt the same way, you just can't function and be yourself.

I have to tell you, though, that there aren't any pain medications that are not going to affect you in some way, you are going to feel this way as long as you are taking anything and with the nerve damage issue, the chances of your being able to just stop taking everything like I did are very slim.

You may want to talk to your doctor, perhaps you can lower your dosage or find some other solution.

Verwon, thank you so much for your reply. I went to the pain doctor about 2 1/2 weeks ago, and said TAKE ME OFF!! He said, what are you going to do about your pain? And I was telling him I'd rather walk through fire, then not be myself. Sooo, He gave me a bunch of 10mg Oxy's and said to drop one every five days. Well, I got down to 50mg, and I was in so much pain, I felt as though I was walking through fire anyways. lol I think I was just a little over medicated then I feel comfortable with. The reality is, I need to take the 30mg oxy 2x day & stay on the norco. I had a long talk with my sponsors' sponsor, and she said as long as I am taking them as directed, then I am sober. I have found that the side effects of the narcotics are nothing, compared to the intense nerve pain. I'm starting to learn to just live with pain, because the pain meds dont take away the pain, they just enable me to move and work, and function a bit. Anyhow, thank you again. I'll keep in touch. I didnt know anyone responded, ans I am new to this site.

Laura, you are very welcome. I am in the same boat, I still have pain, but rather than scramble my brain, again, I have just learned to live with it. I currently take nothing stronger than Advil.
