Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

The 6 months were up October 2011. The side effects are still there. The bony growths on my gums are there, causing more teeth problems, have sore throat issues, bladder problems, terrible pains in the spine and areas. Severe iching and rash, dermatologist gave me creams but no help. No one knows what is wrong, except Doctor's aren't aware of this new drug Prolia, and think everyone is a hypochondriac. Last year and so far this year has been absolute hell. Never again will I will take Prolia or anything else, especially haven't had any info prior by the doctor giving injection. Feel sorry for the elderly who don't know what is causing their problems. Money trumps everything

I was injected two weeks ago and feel horrid. Aches. Nausea. Dizziness. Tingling in hands, fingers, feet. Insomnia. Terrible and severe exhaustion. I feel so ill with this. Will NEVER take the second shot. Had reactions to Actonel and Fosimax. But this is horrible. With a pill you can stop, with the injection, you cannot take it out of you. At work I just want to put my head down on desk and sleep. When I get up from chair I am wobbly and disoriented. I hate how I feel. My Dr. is having bloodwork tests, ECG and heart workup as well.My blood pressure is not good and this is making me so upset. I am a vibrant woman. I feel like a 100 years old toda.

I took the Prolia shot December 31, 2011, and approximately 2-weeks later the pain in my arms, legs, neck hit me with a vengence. I'm having problems sleeping at night. I called my doctor a week ago today 2/21/12, and she has taken me off my cholesterol medication for two weeks thinking this may be the problem, but after one week off the medication - still no changes. I'm hoping these symptoms will go away when my 6-months are up. I do not plan to take the second shot!!!

I had the Prolia injection 2weeks ago. That night, my soft tissue and muscles started aching. I have fibromyalgia, but had not been hurting before I had the shot. I have had flu-like symptoms for two weeks. My muscles feel inflamed, but I don't have fever. I don't think I will take the second shot in 6 months.

I immediately started feeling strange in my mouth - really dry and tingly, cold sores on my lips emerged and don't seem to be healing. I also feel numbness in my feet and fingers. But the worst is the fluctuations from hot to cold at night. So I wake up sweating much like hormonal fluctuations in menopause. I feel light headed and weak as well. Don't feel like I can get help from the doctor since the symptoms sound trivial, but all together make me miserable. Can't wait for this to go away and its only been a week.
Is there anything I can do to relieve any symptom?

I immediately started feeling strange in my mouth and lips, and within a few days broke out in cold sores that don't seem to be going away. Also night sweats, tingling in the feet and fingers. But the feeling of lightheadedness makes me feel like I may fall at any time is the worst. Don't know what to do since the symptoms sound trivial, yet are making me miserable. I am waiting for this to go away........and will not get another injection since the cure is worse than the disease so far.

thank you for being honest with your symptoms, i have a prolia at the pharmacy to pick up and after reading about your problems, i am cancelling the prescription, i pray your symptoms ease up and go away, but thank you for sparing someone else with your honesty. I hope all will be okay with all the poor women who are suffering needlessly, only hoping for a cure

Its been 5 months now.......still have tingling in toes fingers and legs. Also still get tingling around mouth but not as much. My left arm gets a feeling every once in awhile like lightening going down it.
I work in a doctors office and the drug rep that talked me into getting this injection told me that there were "NO" side effects to this drug......Also after it happend to me they told me that nobody else has had these same symptoms of me and that I probably had something else wrong with me........bull crap!!!!!!!
I'm glad to see that there are others out there with the same symptoms, (not glad that they are suffering too, just glad to see its not just me)

I had my 3rd and last shot in September 2011.
It's still is affecting me to a certain extend.
The Doc has no knowledge as to how long it will take before it's completely out of my system.
I noticed the other day a commercial on Tv about Prolia. I'm surprised they even want to advertise this stuff.
It should be banned all together.

Hi Lynne, I am sorry your friend has to go thru so much....I can relate....It has been 11 months since my 1st Prolia injection...I am still having swallowing difficulty but the breathing is the worst.....was back on steroids for the last several months...nebulizer, inhalers, added Singular....with all my other meds and the inflammation in my lungs and airway is bad....at least the horrible rash is gone....but pain, aching doesn't stop....
The endocrinologist still wants to try another ostio med.....I will not let this happen......
I also have numerous fractures in 3 vertibra's in my thoracic spine....the pain has been awful.....difficult driving..... luckily the guy I live with is doing most of the driving.... but I miss my independence. The thing is, my primary doctor say's the fractures will only continue and get worse.....I will always be on high doses of calcium and VitD...because of the HypoParathyroid....The Prolia also drops levels of calcium - and my hands and feet cramp and twist in severe pain......so I am always doing lab work and up-ing my calcium and VitD...while my hands and feet are twisting and cramping I drink "tonic
water" (quinine) which seems to help.....and get heat on them (Hot water) socks, hot shower, electric blanket....
all seemsto help a little......We have to keep going.....so tell your friend she isn't alone in this....
Beaming her Hugs, Barbie

hi barbie,
thanks for your news will copy and paste it to my friend, she appreciates it, like you its going up to a year since her prolia jab and she believes some of her side affects are still present, last month had a spinal injection to help with the pain, steroid of course, isnt everything, she also gets stuff to strengthen her bones, but she,s not keen on that either, bisoperol l think, she does take calcium, but told she could be paralysed if her bones arent strengthened, so does try, and also used tonic for quinine, just got email from her, had a very bad night and called doc out today, now worrying her newly prescribed beta blockers also causing problem. Side effects often a problem, some more than others, and more so if youve immune probs. Might add, going off track a bit, just my personal opinion, having immune probs myself, re i.c., allergic rhinits, skin probs, all for years, this year, and march is early, the symptoms have started with a vengence, chronic congestion, and my breathing also worse this year, despite inhalers, so
think the allergens-pollutants are getting worse and affecting those most with immune problems, just been out for anti h,s spray and tablets, but no miracle one, but like you we plod on, make the best of the good days, endure the bad, as tomorrows another day, best wishes

Have just been perscribed Prolia for my osteoporosis and was wanting some feedback from people that have taken it. I am really scared to get the injection and would like to hear how well everyone has done . I've read some really bad things about this but my doctors keep telling me not to pay any attention to those things.

Hiya I took 1 shot of Prolia and for 6 months felt terrible!
One thing after another but the worse was the bladder infections and the deep deep pain I had. My doctor said the same thing don't listen to them but my pharmacist told me she would not talk it is they paid her. Ask your pharmacist or better yet go the the pharmacy in your local hospital and ask them what the said effects are.
I did not take a second shot. I still have numbness in my leags that keeps me awake all night at time. And pain that only vicodin will take away ... I use to work in a pharmacy and I know doctors won't tell you everything.
This is not the wonder drug they wanted it to be. I won't take it again. I won't take reclast either. I am on calicium and Vit D Period!!! Hugs Sed

Sedona,
So how long did the side effects of one shot of Prolia last? And did you have testing after to see if it helped?
I too am not enjoying the side effects after one shot, and am really worried about developing the jaw/teeth issues.

Daphneyouong :
I only had one shot and have not had any testing as yet will be having the test at the end of the year. On that point. This is all new the the doctors and these bone scans are not as I was told as actuate as say a broken bone xray. They are not sure if say your bones would do just as good with just Calicium and Vit D.
It has been like almost 9 months and I am still feeling effects from that shot. Especially the numbness in my legs. I still hurt at times but not like before. The numbness is about all I have left. After 9 months.

Sedona,
Shoot, my doctor assured me that the side effects should only last a few weeks. She insisted that I have it because my CTx levels were high even though I am not fully in osteoporosis yet.
My worst side effect has been that my immune system is weaker. I am a teacher and exposed to a lot, but until the Prolia was able to avoid most of it. After that I had 3 colds/virus in 6 weeks! Plus night sweating, numbness in my feet and fingers, digestive issues, etc.
Won't be taking this again, or at least not until after I retire!

Daphneyoung:
I am retired and I have COPD which also effects my immune system and I was worried because of that. But the Doctor keep saying its ok. NEVER AGAIN will I believe what he has to say. I was down for six months (In bed) just now getting to where I can go out again without being so tired for being in bed for so long. Thank God my hubby took care of me.
