Need Advice On What To Do (suboxone W/d, Tapering)

I've been an opiate addict for the last ten years or so. I was on 160mg of methadone for 5 of those years. I managed to start weaning myself down to about 50mgs at my clinic, and didn't have any major problems.

Last year I got arrested and I was admitted into a drug treatment court where I wasn't allowed to take methadone but I could take suboxone. I made the switch after a few painful days and was started on 24mgs, which I know now was probably too high. Over the last year I've managed to cut all the way down to 2mgs without any withdraws or relapses (I take 3 drugs tests a week). I've been telling myself for the last 5months or so that each refill would be the last. I stopped going to my sub doc because it was so expensive, luckily or unluckily I had a script for 60 8mg suboxone pills from before I started cutting down. I've managed to make that script last 3 months or so but I haven't been able to get lower than 1-2mg or so just because they are so hard to cut any smaller.

Basically I'm writing for advice on what to do. I have one tiny crumb left (.5mg?) that I'm planning on taking tomorrow. I've tried not taking it for a day for a few times but always rationalizing it in my head that I need to after the panic starts to set in.

I guess I have a few options. 1) I can stop cold-turkey from 2mgs hoping it won't be that bad and just try to suffer through it. 2) Go back to my doctor and have them start me on 2mg pills I can cut up into smaller doses. Though this isn't really an option because I will have to pay the readmittance fee in addition to the regular $250 visit. Or 3) Try to find some old contacts and hope I can get 2-3 suboxones, then give them to my NA sponsor and have him wean me off properly.

If anyone has any experience or hope coming off 2mg of suboxone I'd appreciate it. Also hearing anyone's thoughts on my problem would be appreciated as well.

2mgs is usually the lowest it goes and then someone just has to stop. At that low of a dose, the withdrawals are well minimized and not usually dangerous.

The longer you delay stopping, the longer you will remain an addict.

What did you decide to do?

OK I am about to get ob subutex from 50mg methadone 7 oxy 15's and 2mg xanax. So I have done my research, and the best protocol I have yet seen came from this amazing bup clinic owner in PA. He said he starts his patients ( and this is what he did because he was an addict himself) on 16mg a day 8 morning 8 at night and then went to 4mg 2 day and then 2md 2 a day and then 2mg once a day and then 2 mg every other day and finally he was taking 2mg every 3rd day and his doc at the time said you know now since you are only taking 2mg every 3rd day its all in your head right? This guy was unsure about that but he said on the 4th and 5th day of not taking anything he woke up and though "oh shi* I feel great!" and he was done after that! He went on to open many methadon/bupenorphine clinics up nationwide and i found him online and he sent me his protocol so i can find a doc to start me on the same regimen. it took him 2 years i think he said to finish off. So if i were you i would get maybe 3 or 4 subs and take 1 every 3 days and when you have taken all 4 just be done and try not to think about it, because as we all know 80% of the withdrawal after 3 months off methadone is in your head! and after being off subs for 2 days at a time its in your head as well. You can do it! I am currently trying to find a good doctor to help me out now! Good luck
