How Strong Is Dilaudid Compared With A Lortab 10?
UpdatedNever taken hydromorphone but have taken Roxies and strong hydrocodone but nervous about the effects of the dilaudid. Can anyone tell me the differences. Thanks

I personally haven't taken Dilaudid (Hydromorphone), but based on some research I gathered:
Hydrocodone is classified as being an intermediate centrally acting analgesic.
Hydromorphone is considered to be a very potent (stronger than intermediate) centrally-acting analgesic drug.
Additionally, Hydromorphone is considered to be the strongest of the antitussive drugs, and was developed shortly after diacetylmorphine (heroin) was removed from clinical use for this purpose in most of the world and banned outright in many countries.
In essense, Hydrocodone is a weaker drug than Dilaudid. Some people suggest using Vicodine (Hydrocodone + Acetaminophen) to taper off of or withdrawal from Dilaudid, due it being not quite as strong. Again, since I have never taken Dilaudid, I don't know what exactly you feel when it's in your system, as compared to Hydrocodone; but since both of these drugs are of the opioid class it should be a similar but more powerful experience when taking Dilaudid.

Hope this helps!
I've been given Dilaudid twice. The first time was with an intraabdominal abscess every 3 hours for 7 days straight and again last week for two days every three hours for an appendectomy. The withdawal symptoms are horrendous and I will never, ever allow Dilaudid again. It's called "hospital heroine" and even one dose can cause sever withdrawel, panic attacts, etc. It should be banned.
you think that withdrawl is bad try benzos or the big kahuna METHADONE
Have you ever thought about people that are allergic to say morphine but had major surgery which I includes major pain so with that no choice

Re: David (# 1)
Dilaudid is stronger when given through IV. In pill form Dilaudid is very weak due to its low bioavailability. Ms contin is the same in that regard.
