Cocaine & Suboxone (Top voted first)

Updated

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried getting off cocaine by using suboxone??? My husband keeps going back to cocaine, but wants on suboxone to keep him from going to cocaine. He has also done cocaine & suboxone together and loved the feeling. When he takes just suboxone he is fine and doesn't want the cocaine. I was just wondering if anyone has tried suboxone to get off cocaine and if it actually worked.

verwon: you are wrong...It is MADE to treat opiod addiction..NOTHING else...it works GREAT for heroin...seems like you don't have any experience...i went on suboxone from a 2 gram a day brown powdered heroin habit and am kicked now, and felt ABSOLUTELY noooo withdrawal symptoms....so HOW can you say it doesn't work good with heroin?

and also, anyone who thinks suboxone treats uppers addiction or ANY other type of addiction besides opiod REALLY needs to go ask a DR. because they are ignorant...It's an opiod...It takes away opiod withdrawals; ie heroin, OC, morphine, methadone, vicodin, etc....People....go get educated.

Its a shame there isnt a wonder drug that cures all. But this sabboxin is great for what it is for. Ive taken it for a week and im sold. The price is killing me. I was shareing my husbands methadone to cut cost someone told and now he got cut from the program. i was able to go to saboxin. I took little methadone, but he was doseing in the 200s. So now he is in terrible with draw. Im trying to find another clinic near us to take him. I also had a medical condition and started to take pain pills and one day one wasnt enough and thirity became the answer. Living to buy pills. I swear its the devil. I feel for anyone with any addiction. Its a bitch. I deal every day.Im still a little nervious feeling from the switch to saboxin. But it will go away. My body dosnt hurt. It kinda pisses me off the Dr. are makeing this a money game though. Its a 120 to get in the door and then weekly 40 just to pick up script then 50 for 7 pills. Little high.Pills wernt that high. I just dont understand why you cant get affordable help.We have no insurance so all cash. Any ways best of luck to all who are going to try to get help,or is and haveing a hard time. And to the ones who arnt there yet do it before its too late.

Oh yeah... For those of you that live in Maryland.... Get the PAC card. Pharmacy Assistance Program through Social Services... All it does is help with perscriptions!! I would never be able to pay for Suboxone after a couple of weeks but, now it is only $8.76... I will repeat ~~$8.76 every 3 weeks!! I get 60 8mg Suboxone. If other states have this program... look for it. No one tells people about these programs or if addicts are even elligable because people tend to think that Heroin Addicts are scum...

Are you serious? Did you really just say that the only drug Suboxpne doesn't work for is heroin? You're all mixed up. It works on heroin (opiates) ONLY. I've been taking Suboxone (12 mgs/day) for 8 months for previous opiate addiction and it works like a charm. I never, ever crave opiates. It is not designed to ease withdrawal from any other drug. Opiates (pain killers and heroin) ONLY. If you're very serious about getting clean, don't listen to the advice of a bunch of dips***s on a message board. Go to a doctor. Go to a clinic. Ask a proven professional, otherwise some idiot is going to tell you that a drug designed to help you kick an opiate addiction will cure you of your cocaine habit. They are two different classes of drugs. It would be like eating an orange to curb your apple craving. Only an apple would cure your apple craving.

I feel awful for you because your husband is taking you for a fool. I am a recovering addict. I did both Heroin and Coke... and using drug addicts are all liars... even I was. Suboxone has absolutely nothing to do with Coke. For me, I do not even really want to get high at all. But, if you were to take Suboxone and Coke to get high... you would only feel the Cocaine Sweety. Your husband is an idiot to say that he likes the high of taking them both together... Trust me, I have done it in the past and the Suboxone does absolutely nothing for you.
If you really want to get clean, you will. Plain and simple. Now, people like me need a little help becuase we simply cannot do it alone... Thank God for Suboxone, I would be dead right now if I did know about it. Try to tell your husband about Rehab. In~patient or even out~patient. He obviously needs some kind of help and Suboxone is for Opiate Abuse... NOT COCaine. Good Luck Sweetheart!

My husband is an addict with addictions to both opiates and cocaine. Suboxone has taken away all of his cravings .His shrink said that sometimes this drug can do that , true its primary usage is for opiate addiction, but for us it has done the trick...

Ash, I had to reply to you because I was in a similiar situation. I found when I look back, not intentionaly, that I kicked my coke habit by replacing it with an opiate habit. I only did pills, mostly percs & vics and did over 100mg daily sometimes. What I realized is that my focus/desire switched... and I used to dream about doing lines of coke. The pill habit got bad, but have recently went clean and am now on subs. I dont have any desire for coke now and the subs are working. I feel and look great. No more nose bleeds, ive beenlifting and gaining my muscle back. My situation was/is dangerous and stupid. I just wanted to share. Feel free to ask me questions. good luck

Great advice! But since that obviously wont work, I suggest seeing an addiction specialist and trying to get stable on some stimulant, maybe monitor his meds if possible. I think start with that, if he sees some progress maybe he'll be a little more willing to do some counseling which may also help. I think you gotta just do whatever works, and you know telling him "OK NA meetings for minimum 1 year, we'll start Tuesday" is a joke.

Ive been on 3-8mgthe subs a day for 4yrs..i was a horribly addicted herion/pill/drug addict. I would do whayever wen ever. My life was upside down...since suboxone. All tjat has changed. I now run my own sucsesful business and bo longer use.its been a miracle...unfortunately there is one more hurddle to jump..GETTN OFF THE SUBS. Its more addictive than most drugs..harder to come off as it stays in u forever. ...if ir husband can quit coke using subs good for him. It is used to treat opiate withdrawl. But sumtimea people juat need SUMTHING to bend there mind. Sum peiple use alcohol to come off pills. Or weed. Whatever...but if he usea subs to come off coke it may help him along but remwmber that subs are highly addictive. Hed be better off using loratabs or vicodin. Goodluck. Hope that helpa juat a wee

To the writer who wanted to know anout Suboxone (Boprenorphine/Naloxone). Would not help get off cocaine. It's action as an opiate agonist/antagonist is useful in keeping people off of opiates since the oiate in Suboxone has a much stroger affinity or the opiate receptors. In Suboxone the Naloxone is an antagonist and will remove any opiates on the receptors and not allow any other opiate to work.

It is very helpful in getting off opiate dependency but would have no effect on cocaine which blocks the re-uptake of dopamine-causing the high. This is similar to (meth)amohetamines which also act on dopamine but cause your body to manufacture more.

The psychological withdrawl from both of these is a certain amount of dpression and lislissness until the body can stabilize its own (much lower) dopamine production.

Some possible suggestions-though Cocanie is a tough one. Anything dopaminergic will relieve the w/ds and compulsion. One antdepressant that seems to help a little is Cymbalta. If you can mailorder from Europe they have a commonly used anti-depressant brand name Stablon generic Tianeptine-these are dopaminergics. Some nootropics or nutraceuticals that might help would be DL-Phenylalnine, Tyrosine, Piracetam.

It takes the body some time to reach homeostasis, until that happens I'd strongly recommend CA, NA, AA as he's going to need all the support he can get. You might want to consider al-anon-it really helps. Good luck

Wow, I just read other many the other replies. FYI, it's Bprenorphine in Suboxone- I had it misspelled as Bop...

Most of the respodersare correct in that Suboxone is strictly used w/ opiates (occassionally as a prescribed pain reliever) and will have no impact on cocaine. Anecdotal studies claim Naltrexone (and opiate antagonist, helps with coke) but I don't see any neurochemical basis for that.

Inpatient treatment is almost imperative for cocaine addiction since the urge to score will be overwhelming. There is nothing physically addicting about cocaine but it's incredibly psychologically addicting. Definitely recommend 1) Minimum 14 day, preferably 28 day in patient). 2) Daily NA/AA meetings for at least 1 year-DAILY. #) No exposure to any old friends ho may have been users/dealers.

Nobody likes that kind of news but ib one year you can have n incredibly new life.

In the meantime, take care of yourself and go to Al-Anon.

and to give you some more of my bacground, and im wrting this partly as a catharsis, but maybe it will arm you with some knowledge too. Just like the other are saying, Coke is a phsycological addiction. I thought about it all the time, especially at work when i was stressed. b ut after years of using it, i started to get really paranoid. thats when i hit rock bottom. After even just a decent line, i would be so paranoid I thought the DEA were about to come through my bedroom door. When I got more into the pills, it was a welcome relief. I could function on the pills where coke made me paranoid. Opiates on the otherhand are a phisical addiction. I needed the pills just to get out of bed without feeling sick. So i basically treded one addiction for another. However, the subs are keeping me straight and I have turned the page on my life for the better...

Let me just say to you that I have yet to hear a more intelligent answer than yours. Finally, Someone who I feel is REAL to the bone. Man I get 45 8mg Suboxone strips every month and I have 15 left over every month. I'll even be cutting back to 6mg a day in Sept. I have a s***load of strips and I will never go back to the way I was before and sell my Meds. But by all means I would love to be able to give you every one I have had over (81 Strips) since Feb. cause I think you really want to stay clean but I know how hard it is w/o ins. I pay $6.30 a month for 45-8mg strips man and it sucks to sit here and know that I could help someone else out that really wants the clean life...I'm Truely Sorry but I know you will get right...Good Luck to You...Joe, Soddy Daisy, T
