I've been on Seroquel 30pmg at night for about a year now. My dr has prescribed Neurontin 300 ( for pain) 3 times a day one at night for 7 days then increase to 2 a day and so on. Ive had the neurontin for a while now but havent taken it I started back two days ago My job is very stressful I have to be at the top of my game. I have found myself being tired and a little loopy, this is why Ive started in the past and then stopped twice. If I continue the neurontin until it gets in my system will that change?? It works for the pain but I dont like the loopy feeling.. ## Side effects are usually transient and tend to go away, once your body gets used to a medication, but that may take about 4 to 6 weeks of being on one steady dosage. The FDA lists other Neurontin side effects as possibl...

I have diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. I also have bursitis in my hips. Which is better to control the pain and which has less side effects - (Epleptin 300mg three times a day or Neurontin 300 mg)? ## All medications carry the risk of causing side effects, and there is no way to say which one will be the best to help any given person, since we are all different. However, regarding these two medications, both of them contain the same active ingredient, which is Gabapentin, so there is really no difference between them. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, dry mouth, dizziness, mood changes, and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was prescribed neurontin by my doctor. I only took 3 capsules of the 300mg capsules. It made me happy and giggly and I felt like I was floating. I didn't feel angry or as if I wanted to hurt someone as I normally feel daily. Why? ## Neurontin contains the active ingredient Gabapentin, which is actually an anticonvulsant, so it works on brain chemicals, this it can cause the effects you experienced in some people, which is why there are warnings that some people are more prone to abuse it. For this same reason, it is also sometimes used to treat mood disorders, such as bipolar disorder. Learn more: Are there any other questions or comments? ## Wow. That is quite a reaction for such a small dosage. I take 1200 mg, 3 times daily. Been taking it for neuropathy for 10 years. ## Can you...

I just started taking 900mg Neurontin 3 times daily for nerve pain in neck. I am due to have an MRI to see if there is nerve damage, will taking this med change the reading of the MRI? ## I haven't found any warnings that you shouldn't take it when having one, so I have to assume it doesn't. Learn more Neurontin details here. You may want to check with your doctor to be certain, but usually they will warn you, when you need to stop taking any certain medication before a test. Are there any other questions or comments? ## Does it effect your MRI Results ?

Hello. I'm very new to this drug, only 7 days.I am a diabetic with bi-polar/anxiety. I was recently put on Gabapentin 300mg. 1 pill for 4 days and then told to take 1 pill 2 times a day after. I have been experiencing some normal side effects such as sleepiness, a little anxiety (it hits me for about an hour and then goes away completely) and a little bit of a loopy feeling. I did not realize I was past the 4 days and had only been taking one pill (my memory has been terrible the past few days), so I was going to start taking the 2 pills yesterday (Feb 20th). I forgot the 2nd dosage on the 20th and did not realize it until the 21st after I started feeling a crazy rapid heartbeat, severe anxiety (i wrestled with it for about 4 hours before calming down), as well as dizziness and the ...

I have been taking 50mg.of Lyrica 3 times a day for a pinched nerve in my lower back. Now my Insurance Co. said they will not cover Lyrica they recomend Gabapentin. What is the difference in thede two meds ## Lyrica contains the active ingredient Pregabalin and Gabapentin is the active ingredient in Neurontin, but they are both the same type of medication, they are anticonvulsants that have also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain. Learn more Gabapentin details here. Have you contacted your doctor about it, yet? Sometimes they both work for someone, but sometimes they don't. You can really only try it and see. ## Gabapentin worked OK for me but I got leg cramps. They didn't last long, per cramp, and did not leave my calf muscle sore but were annoying enough for m...

I was recently diagnosed with Seratonin Syndrome after 3 months of going from doctor to doctor trying to find out what was wrong with me -- nobody knew how to diagnose it -- heart palpitations, severe joint pain (was tested for lupus and RA) dialated pupils, very agitated and irritable, nose bleeds, increased blood pressure and pulse rate. I had been on Prozac (10 mg) for over 20 yrs. after an auto accident & subsequent surgery, Neurontin (1500-1800 mg) was added, along with Tramadol (50mg) 3-4 times a day. Cymbalta (30 mg) was added to the cocktail in December & I have been fighting symptoms that no one could diagnose. Seratonin Syndrome can be life-threatening, but I was prescribed all of these medications which did nothing but react with each other. Please be careful & do...

Just a question, I have Lumbar and Throic Spondolysis, and fracture in the some of the disc areas, we are not going to operate and the pain stays just gets more intense as time goes on. I have been on Vico 10/325 3 times a day and Neurtion 3 times a day, this helps but does not give me total comfort. Should I look for comfort? and is there a better combination I can tell my Dr at the pain center. Just wondering If anybody had a better suggestion. ## If this combination is working for you, for the most part, then you may want to talk to your doctor about adjusting one of them. You didn't say what dosage you are on of the Neurontin, but I know the Vicodin, which contains Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone, is available with higher amounts of the Acetaminophen, that helps the efficacy of th...

I have taken Neurontin at 800mg at 4 times a day for eight years. Also taken Lyrica at 200mg 4 times a day.It helps with pain and neasuea, before i eat and after i eat and it kills the effect of the medicine. So I have to take more than prescribed. So does any body else have this problem. Are any sugestions? I have talked to my doctors about this. They don't listen. They also didn't listen to me about it being adictive. I was right about that. So if anyone can help or tell me how to get help please, please write me back. Thank you. ## The reason they do not see these as being addictive is because they are not actually pain medications, they are not narcotics, so they don't carry the same side effects and addiction as narcotic opiates do. What you experience though, when you ta...

Sixty five and just got the mandatory Medicare but also have a PPO since March. My previous plan, an HMO would only provide me with 40 Vicodin a month for my daily back pain which includes scoliosis, spurs, two very degenerated discs, annular tear, sciatica and some other issues if can't even remember. I've had the epidural several times with minor relief, PT, neurontin, tramadol (does zip). After the big conspiracy by the FDA was enacted in Nov, I was cut off with no referral. I know that some people abuse their pain meds, but 40 a month? Come on. They even cut my friend off that has severe MS all because of this FDA thing. I was still hurting rationing 40 pills a month. My primary told me that Americans are too dependent on pain meds. She said that in her country of Paraguay p...

I have been prescribed and taking oxycodone 10 hcl, 1-2 tablets every 6 hours. Today saw my spine surgeon (nurse practitioner) to get a refill prescription and what I was given was oxycontin 10 mg extended release, the prescription says to take 1-2 tablets every 6 hours. Isn't this too much from what I have been taking? My pain level has been maintained on the oxycodone 10 hcl every 6 hours along with tramadol 50 mg every 6 hours and neurontin 600 mg 4 times a day. ## No, it's still the same dosage of the relevant medication, because Oxycontin also contains Oxycodone. The different, however, is that what you were taking was the regular release formulation and the Oxycontin is the time released formulation. It's the time interval that could be problematic, because the Oxycont...

I have been taking neurotin for 3 years. I take 800mg 3 times daily. I would like to know if shaking is a side effect. It started about 3 months ago. ## Hi Marlene, Interestingly enough, an "uncontrollable shaking of a part of your body" is listed as a side effect of Neurontin (Gabapentin). Ref: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a694007.html#side-effects This medication seems to have some pretty strange side effects, so I would play it safe and talk to your doctor if it becomes too bothersome or severe. I hope this info helps!
