I took 3 500mg. ciprofloxacinall a once. what can happen to me??? ## Hello, Dot! How are you? Did you experience any adverse effects? This is an antibiotic, so that really wouldn't be an overdose, so to speak, unless you are allergic to it or have some severe medical problem that it is contraindicated with. Otherwise, you'd likely just experience a worsening of the side effects and have more nausea and diarrhea than usual. Did you consult your doctor? You should double check this information with them, to be safe.

Is nipecil acronym penicillon from Mexico, the same as ciprofloxacin? ## Hello, James! How are you? No, the FDA lists Nipecil as containing Penicillin, which is an antibiotic, but it's in a different class than Ciprofloxacin. Not all are effective at eradicating the same bacteria, so you should always take the one your doctor has prescribed. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## What is the difference between ciprofloxacin HCA 500 and penicillin a nipecil 500 and is it safe to use on a diverticulitis infection? I would like to know the name of all the meds that work to treat poison ivy. Will cephalexin 500 mg or ciprofloxacin 500 mg work? ## No, these are antibiotics that are used to treat bacterial infections. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash. Poison ivy is actually an allergic reaction, so you may need a steroid to treat it, as well as an antihistamine, according to FDA reports. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?

I had a bladder infection - my doc prescribed Ciprox 500 mg. it started to get better then started to come back the 3rd day - was about to call doc when he called me to say that he was prescribing Nitrofur because they found I had e coli infelction in the labs - why didn't they prescribe Nitro 1st? according to these discussions cip is supposed to be for both. Any input? ## According to medicinenet.com, "Ciprofloxacin is frequently used to treat urinary infections caused by bacteria such as E. coli. Ciprofloxacin is also effective in treating infectious diarrheas caused by E. coli, Campylobacter jejuni, and Shigella bacteria." I'm not entirely sure why they would wait to prescribe Nitro afterwards, but from what I could gather Nitrofurantoin is solely used for the purpos...

if I cut ciprofloxacin 500 in half will it be the same as taking a 250 mg pill because 500 is too strong for me and I am ok with the lower dose. ## You should take the dosage prescribed by your doctor. Why do you feel it is too strong for you? Some severe infections require a higher dosage. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.

My doctor prescribed Ciprofloxacn for a stomach infection, 500mg twice a day for 10 days. I am a runner, 64 years of age, and am concerned about possible tendentious, or other leg problems that could result. My question is, could this short of a dosage cause me serious leg problems that could cause me not to be able to run? ## There is really no way to say with any certainty. Some people can take it and never have a problem, but that type of side effect has happened to some people, even after just one or two doses. If you are that concerned about it, you should discuss it with your doctor and you may want to ask them about using a different antibiotic that may not be as risky. Are there any other questions or comments?

is ciprofloxacin hcl 500 mg tab a penicillin? ## Hello, Cara! How are you? No you can usually spot the ones that are in the Penicillin class, because they use the cillin in the name, so a couple other example that are would be Ampicillin and Amoxicillin. Ciprofloxacin is a Fluoroquinolone class antibiotic and it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Learn more Ciprofloxacin details here. this was prescribed to my girlfriend because she has a cold/ flu Is this right? ## Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic that's used to treat bacterial infections and it is not effective against the viruses that cause cold and flu. Learn more Ciprofloxacin details here. However, in many cases the flu or a cold can lead to irritation that may result in an infection, such as a sinus infection, so her doctor may have prescribed it, if she was showing signs of something like that. Did she ask her doctor why it was prescribed? ## Hi I have boils and scars on my face ciprofloxacin was prescribed..is it good for there infection...thanks ## Can I take ciprofloxacin 500 mg for the flu...my husband has the flu with cough, fever, congestion...he is on an antibiotic and Tamiflu...now I'm at the ea...

I was prescribed cipro to treat a uti. I stopped taking it after 3 days due to tendinitis symptoms. Today, 2 days after I stopped taking cipro I noticed that all of my fingernails on both hands are dark pink. Could this be another side effect such as kidney damage? ## Hello, KM! How are you? Some antibiotics can cause a discoloration of the nails, it's usually nothing to worry about and will eventually go away on its own. However, it wouldn't hurt to have it checked out by your doctor, to be safe. Other side effects as listed by the FDA may include nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and non-allergic skin rash. Are there any other questions or concerns?

Can this pill be cut in half in order to make it easier to swallow? ## That really depends on whether or not this pill is a solid tablet or a capsule filled with liquid or powder. Generally, you can't really cut a capsule in half; but rather empty its contents into a glass of water and down it quickly. I wouldn't attempt this however if your medication is an extended release formula; (but based on your description I don't think it is). As such, if it is a tablet, I would just recommend cutting it in half as you planned on doing and taking it that way, as long as you take the two halves one after the other. I hope this helps! ## My husband can not swallow medication and it is crushed and soaked in water and then put through his stomach tube. Some medications will not separate...

My doc recently prescribed me Ciprox 500 mg for a bladder infection. I started to feel improvement but then on the 3rd day it was getting worse again. I was about to call my doctor when he actually contacted me to say that he needs to prescribe me Nitrofur because my lab work came back positive for an E Coli infection. Any idea why he didn't just prescribe the Nitrofur from the beginning? According to my research the Cipro should be able to treat both types of infection. Thoughts? ## I'm not sure why they wouldn't have prescribed Nitrofurantoin first, since it is usually the 'go to' antibiotic for UTIs. Learn more Nitrofurantoin details here. Yes, Ciprofloxacin can also treat both. Learn more Ciprofloxacin details here. Is the Ntirofurantoin helping? ## Yes the nitro...

I can't swallow this cipro 500mg tab (it's too big). Says not to cut, or chew it. It is a slow release med. Can I just cut it into 2 pieces and then take one half now and the other half 2 hrs later so that I don't get too much at once? I am supposed to take 2/day along with amoxicillin 500mg 3/day for a bad tooth infection that has spread into my lower jaw causing tinnitus in one ear. ## Hello, Zubs! How are you? Sorry about the severe infection. No, if it says not to cut, crush or break it, then you shouldn't do so, unless your doctor, dentist or pharmacist says it's okay for you to do so, other than possibly getting to much, some can be very harsh on your stomach and GI tract, which could cause bleeding and/or ulcers. Have you talked to your dentist about it? They ...
