1	David Says: Report Abuse Sunday, 7/19/2009 9:08:22 PM Hi Virginia, Macrobid (Nitrofurantoin) is an antibiotic. It is usually used in treating urinary tract infection. Like many other drugs, it is often used against E Coli. Side effects may include: Nausea and vomiting, fever, rash, and hypersensitivity pneumonitis. It can also cause pulmonary fibrosis.
