Take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor, if they did not provide you with enough details, then please speak with your pharmacist.

Generally, you should finish the entire first cycle, before enough is in your system to adequately protect against pregnancy, once you reach the end of the pill pack, where you on the period week pills, then you are fully protected, but be careful not to miss any.

One white tablet should be taken daily for 24 consecutive days followed by one brown tablet daily for 4 consecutive days. Withdrawal bleeding should usually occur within three days following discontinuation of white tablets and may not have finished before the next pack is started. During the first cycle with a Sunday start, contraceptive reliance should not be placed on Loestrin 24 Fe until a white tablet has been taken daily for 7 consecutive days and a non-hormonal back-up method of birth control (such as condoms or spermicide) should be used during those 7 days.

That could actually just be a normal side effect of the pill, many birth control pills cause that for the first few months that you take them, some even longer, or it could be the wrong hormonal balance for you. If it continues and becomes bothersome, you should talk to your doctor, there are other pills you can try that may work better.

I have had several that did that to me, it got to the point that I would have one week off and 3 on, which became very annoying so I had to switch. On my current pill, Desogen, which I have been taking for almost 12 years now, since my son was born, I am fine and only spot occasionally, unless I get the new generic brand that is out, something in it just does not agree with me and I bleed constantly when I take it, so my doctor has to put Brand Medically Necessary on the prescription each time I need refills.

Other options are various types of infections, I have no way of knowing if you are having any other symptoms, so you will have to assess that for yourself, and if you are, or like I said, if it continues or you begin to bleed heavier, then you will want to see your doctor.

As to the side effects, requested by Denise, here's the info from the monograph:

Important Safety Information about Loestrin 24 Fe: Oral contraceptives are not for everybody. Most side effects of the Pill are not serious and those that are, occur infrequently. Serious risks, which can be life threatening, include blood clots, stroke, and heart attacks, and are increased if you smoke cigarettes. Cigarette smoking increases the risk of serious cardiovascular side effects, especially if you're over 35. Women who use oral contraceptives should not smoke. Some women should not use the Pill, including women who have or have had blood clots, certain cancers, a history of heart attack or stroke, as well as those who are or may be pregnant. The Pill does not protect against HIV or sexually transmitted diseases.

I have been taking Loestrin24fe for 2.5 months. Despite eating less, and exercising more, I've gained 5 pounds. I have also noticed an increase in appetite - which I try to ignore, or reach for a fruit or veggie. Can you recommend any other BC pills?
