1	Nenene Says: Report Abuse Tuesday, 6/20/2006 8:23:11 PM Why are you taking it as an alternative? Xanax is actually more addictive and has more long lasting side effects than Ativan does. Most doctors prefer to use Ativan when they can get away with it because people dont tend to abuse it like they do Xanax.

Personally, I have been on xanax for a few years now, for anxiety and I dont ever take any more than I need to and I am not addicted to them, could do without them if I had to but there is not any need for me to stop taking them, when needed. I do not take them every single day , only when I am very anxious and mabey one at bedtime to get some good sleep.
