Susan Mckellip Says:
Will it help with the depression caused by Tomilfin(sp), and not cause weight gain? Also with the cancer meds I am getting hot flashes and bad headaches. Do you have any information on this

I took Tamoxifen for 5 years along with Effexor XR. The effexor actually helps with hot flashes! I had a positive experience with the combination. Effexor XR will not increase your appetite or make you fat.

I know exactly what you are going through because I also experienced heavy sweating and hot flashes right after I began Tamoxifen for my breast cancer follow up treatment. I too was going in and out depressions but I didn't associate it with the Tamoxifen because I've had issues with depressions prior to the use of this medication. I was prescribed Effexor to help with the sweats and the depression issues. It immediately stabilized my mental outlook and mood swings, but it hardly put a dent in my water fall sweats. I sweated so heavily that I hated to be in public, or even around my family. Nothing seemed to help slow it down and it was driving me crazy. I had been on Tamoxifen for one year when Britain published their results of a long term clinical study on Tamoxifen vs. Aramidex which involved five thousand breast cancer survivors. The results for Aramidex were actually much better than the results from Tamoxifen. I immediately went to my Oncologist at UCSF in San Francisco and demanded that he put me on Aramidex because of the study results and because I hated what the Tamoxifin was doing to me. I have to say that the difference was at least a 40% reduction in my sweating issue. For the next four years I was able to take Aramidax without any major issues. You may want to look into this for yourself. I will say that the Doctors don't like switching medications once you've started because we are all a statistic and it messes up their clinical studies. I'm into my sixth year of remission!

Tamoxifen did not suit me at all after my breast cancer - hallucinations, cramps in the bone etc. Now I'm on Aramidex and getting tinglings and things.
