Sandy Says:
I have been taking the this drug from the past 16 years. I started with carbamazepine. When the drug oxcarbamazepine was introduced, I was asked to replace carbamazepine with oxcarbamazepine. The dose has been increasing since then. When I started taking this dose, I took 200 mg per day. My medical condition remained stable for 25-30 days with the frequency of epileptic attack of 1 attack per month. After this duration, the frequency of attacks increased. When consulted the doctor, he increased the dose. This cycle kept on repeating itself till the dose increased to 1200 mg per day which is the maximum dose an average adult can take per day. After the dosage reached the maximum level, I opted for homeopathy. Before I suffer from epileptic attack, I get a strong feeling which I am not able to control. I felt this feeling for 1-3 seconds and finally lose my conciousness. After 30-50 seconds, I regain my conciousness and I am able to recall everything gradually, who I am, where I am, so on and so forth. The abnormal acts which I make are: getting excited very quickly, losing my temper, acne on my face, very poor retaining power. After I started taking homeopathy, the additional symptoms which arose are bed wetting, level of feeling which I felt before having an attack increased with slow pace. Sometimes I am able to control this feeling and don't lose my conciousness. Currently I am taking 900 mg oxcarbamazepine along with 10 mg of clobazam (another drug) and homeopathy as well. But the disease is not getting treated. All the tests and scans (MRI scan,.....) do not detect anything. They come out to be normal.

Hi Sandy,

Even i am suffering from Epilepsy since 97. I have had 3 attacks till now. It was 97, 05 and 06. I was on carbamazepine till the second attack in 05. I am on oxcarbamazepine 1200 mg/day and Phenobarbital 60 mg/day since 2005. But my body was displaying some ill-effects to Phenobarbital like loss of memory, lack of concentration, giddiness, lethargic, headache and i even have developed migraine with time. Have a look at this -

I consulted my neuro for this and he has put me on another drug starting today. I do not know how it would react to the new medicine. My CT and MRI also come out to be normal but EEG does show spikes.

Lets hope for the best. Feel free to contact me @ bhavin(dot)shukla(at)gmail(dot)com.

wish u the best,
bhavin

I am taking Carbamazepine and Clobazam in the prescribed drugs. Phenobarbital is also prescribed. Which is the new drug prescribed to you and what are its effects which you feel have resulted after its intake?

Hello Verwon

I have also been taking carbamazepine before oxcarbamazepine came to the market.
I had been taking this under the name Tegrital. The brand name may be different. I have read out all the information about oxcarbamazepine, carbamazepine and clobazam which is available on this site. Are you suffering from any ailment?

Hello Verwon

I feel that I have used a bit abusive language in the last reply. I am extremely sorry for that. Though I had read all the information related to the drugs I take but even then I should thank you for providing the required information. From the last statement (in my last reply), I want to ask what is your profession.
I would like to ask you that I have a very poor retaining power and I am bit absent minded also. How to remove these ill effects. Instead of taking another dosage, I would recommend any of the natural treatments of these.
