1	Debbie Says: Report Abuse Monday, 11/16/2009 12:08:21 PM Cephalexin is not a form of penicillin. I am allergic to penicillin, so I am given Cephalexin all the time. It can be used for a number of infections including sinus infections. Cephalexin is in a group of drugs called cephalosporin antibiotics and is used to fight bacteria in the body. It works by interfering with the bacteria's cell wall formation, causing it to rupture, and killing the bacteria. Cephalexin is used to treat infections caused by bacteria, including upper respiratory infections, ear infections, skin infections, and urinary tract infections. http://www.drugs.com/cephalexin.html
