3	J Phelps Says: Report Abuse Sunday, 8/3/2008 10:31:28 AM It's a synthetic drug derived from the nitrofuranos (sorry, that's Spanish and I don't know what the equivalent English name for the drug is), It's an intestinal antibiotic, for treatment of intestinal infections and diarrhea caused by intestinal infection. It has been demonstrated to be effective against Staphylococcus and Streptococcus and against some other bacterias such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp, Shigella, Klebsiella spp and Proteus spp. It is not effective against Salmonella typhi or Typhoid Fever.
