Hi. I just had back surgery 10 days ago. Because of the length and sverity of my condition (a double herniaton of the L-5 disc) I have had severe muscle spasms all up and down both legs and in my back. It just so happens that I have just completed my certivicate in drug and alcohol rehab counseling., and am finishing up a course in PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY. I've just started taking this drug, since I told my doctor that I can't handle FLEXERIL, which is NOT an anti-inflamitory or a muscle relaxer. Flexeril is a benzodiazapine - a sedative, which is why it is sometimes prescribed for muscle pain. There is NO Xanax (another benzodiazapine) in Zanaflex (generic name tizanadine). Xanax is prescribed primarily for anxiety disorder. Tizanadine is purely an antispasmodic and an anti-inflamitory. It does have some sedative effects, but the body easily aclimates to it, which is different than developing a tolerance, which indicates a potential for addiction. Notice that XANAX starts with an X, and ZANAFLEX starts with Z. If you have anymore questions about any drugs, feel free to email me at: herohavoc2@aol.com. The action of mechanism is an adrenalgic agonist i.e. it mimics neurotransmittors that inhibit adrenaline, which cause exitement of the bodily functions, especially stress, thereby lessening muscle stress and pain.
