Recent Posts About What's the correct time to take drug? at The People's Medicine Community. I've been taking Levothyroxine for a bout a month and a half because I had a hyper thyroid and had to have radation to stop my thyroid. I feel much better, but I'm scared of becoming fat. My container says, Take medication on an empty stomach 1HR before or 2-3 hours after a meal. Does this mean it's okay if I take it at 5:30 am and then go back to sleep 'til 9am? Or do I HAVE to eat exactly an hour afterwards. It's very hard to gage when I'm going to be eating or not. Often after a meal, I might still have a snack within an hour. I've never been a meal kind of person. I like to graze throughout the day. It's not like I'm as big as a cow. I'm 5'1 and 3/4'' and 101 lbs. It's very strange to go from 84 lbs. to 101 in just 2 months. I've got to go to sleep now because I just took my Levothyroxine and I'm feeling so hungry for a snack.:(

i started levothyroxin 7 days ago. i am hypothyroid . i don't feel that much better i am on 112mcg i gained 7 lbs. i began to gain weight around the time i had my abnormal thyroid test. my thyroid was normal all my life i am 49 , out of nowhere in feb 2009 my tsh is 5.11 and my tsi is 42 it is supposed to be < 2o. i have been tryin to lose weight . last week i weighed 212 and now 220 . the pharmacist said the levothyroxin has to build up in my blood before my body will normalize . i take wellbutrin too, i was depressed after my mom died, and continued because i felt better.
can any one allay my worries and tell me things will get better? HElP ! i am concerned about weight gain. also when should i go back to check my blood levels if i need a higher dose
. also i have two very small nodules. the Dr said the levothyroxin will
shrink them.

I had a partial thyroidectomy when I was 19 and a near total thyroidectomy 8 years ago. I am 53. I take my synthroid when I get up at 6 a.m. and I don't eat breakfast until I get to work, sometime between 8 and 9. It works out well. When I got a new job a few years ago, I tried to eat breakfast at home one hour after I took my pill, but it was as though I hadn't taken my pill at all. So, morning is the best time to take it, I think, and wait a couple of hours before you eat.
