So sorry to hear about what you are going through.I also have the same medical conditons as you,not to mention 3 herniated disc& other things that cause chronic pain-I am 44 & in my late 20s I started having pain through out my body(back then they didn't know much about fibro) so I just took extra strength tylenol.In my 30s they found the herniated discs & fibro-put me on darvocet also till I noticed it was making me sick (pharmacist said could be due 2 all the tylenol & told me 2 not stop taking it till I seen or called my dr.Well I never knew what withdrawL was like until I decided to take it upon myself & stop all my meds-what a very big mistake,I had the most awful stomah cramps & couldn't eat or sleep but thought I was a strong person & could do it on my own.I was also on xanax & a antidepressant. I ended up having a seizure & thank God my 16 yr old son had stayed home from school because he was sick,I remember waking up in an ambulance & someone asking me questions that I couldn't understand-finally at the ER the dr was able 2 ask my son who my dr was & contacted him 2 get info on my medical conditions & meds I was on.At that point I was able to tell the er dr about stopping my meds & he immediatly gave me IV meds that I needed to bring me back to reality-I was scared 2 death not only 4 me but my son who was thinking I was dying, it turned out 2 be the xanax that caused the seizure & I started back on it asap. Please ask your doctor to refer you to a internist 4 now,while the darvocett should not cause a seizure no one should stop their meds cold turkey like I did. An internist should be able to help u get on your meds or replace it with something to stop the withdrawl.In the mean time try taking the medicine that Verwon has mentioned & the imodium for your stomach.If my son had not been home from school sick I would have been alone & can't imagine what might have happened.please see a dr soon & if nothing else a county hospital can not refuse you treatment & have programs to help make payments or even no cost according 2 your income. You will be in my thoughts & prayers, I also have no insurance as do so many people in this country & have to pay for dr visits & meds which scares me because my husband is laid off & I am trying to wean down very slowly from meds I take now. I will never stop taking them the way I did before,this will be a slow process & I will still have to take some meds 4 pain,the only problem is I can't take meds with tylenol cause they make me sick 2 my stomach & no anti-inflammatory due 2 peptic ulcer.So that leaves me taking roxicodone they are so small but I have a pill cutter& the dr said it was ok cause it is not a time released med which are very deadly to anyone thinking of cutting them in half-such as oxycontin.Alice I know how much pain you must be in & cold weather keeps me in bed. I feel like I have the body of an 80 yr old woman- I also have a very severe case of scoliosis which causes me to walk with a limp as 1 leg is shorter then the other.They tried 2 fix it when I was 12yrs old but it did nothing & it starts from the midsection of my back & down.-Horrible pain in my whole body. My thoughts & prayers go out to all suffering from chronic pain ! Pain can cause a person loss of enjoyment of life that is how I feel-I don't leave the house except to see the dr & maybe go 2 the store once a month, my husbands loves to grocery shop so he does all that. I have no friends because I am not from this state & my husband grew up here, the pain keeps me from socializing I feel hopeless & helpless. To all- have a wonderful holiday season.I am sorry I didn't mean to write so much as I did I guess it makes me feel like I am not alone in this struggle to live with chronic pain !

I have found that Tylenol or Excedrin PMs help because there is something in them called diphenhydramine that balance everything out relieving you of the insomia, chills, hotsweats and other symptoms of withdrawel

The combination drug discussed here has been banned in the UK for about two years now. Quite apart from the, admittedly mild, withdrawal symptoms which will be experienced when stopping taking any opiate/oid drug, dextropropoxyphene is extremely toxic, and as paracetamol (acetaminophen in the USA) is also very toxic, it contributed more than its fair share of drug deaths to the tragic prescription drug toll. The main brand in the UK was Distalgesic, and was a favourite for the teenage 'cry for help' which I have discussed on a couple of threads here.
How long should the WD symptoms last? Well, most opiates when quit 'cold turkey' have a WD length of around 8 days. Darvon (Co-proxamol) being a rather mild opiate, the symptoms are likely to be much more bearable than, say, methadone, which produces probably the worst WDs, much worse than diamorphine (Heroin) but lasting around the same length of time. The biggest difference would be that a return to 'normal' would be a lot quicker. The strong opiates like Heroin, methadone and hydromorphone, for a long time after the actual withdrawal is over, have the effect of interfering with normal sleep patterns especially as a 'reminder' of the habit. I speak from experience. Currently I am prescribed OxyContin and a few months ago lost the final week's worth of tablets on a train - that was a hell of a week, I can tell you! The pain returning was as nothing compared with the symptoms of withdrawal, which I had to try to counter by borrowing quite a lot of dihydrocodeine, since there was no chance of my doctor prescribing in that emergency. She bluntly told me I'd have to wait till my next script and do whatever I could to cope in the meantime. Yes, dihydrocodeine DOES take the edge off the WDs, but not to the extent where one can live without quite a horrible combination of sweats and cramps, not to mention the pain creeping back, DHC being too weak a drug to cope with my pain.
Eight days, but severity dependent on the opiate used. Nobody ever died from opiate WD though. It just FEELS like you're dying! Lucky it wasn't a short half-life benzodiazepine - the WDs from those ARE life-threatening. Again from personal experience; but as you see, I am still here since my benzodiazepine WD took place in a detox/rehab facility. I used to self-medicate to a ridiculous degree - now I am prescribed 2.25mg Xanax daily which I stick to and which is almost as effective as the hundreds of milligrams I used to get through.
Best of luck to anybody who must go through any sort of withdrawals from these kind of medicines. It is not easy.

Montel Williams from the tv program advocates this certain program that in alot of cases gets you free medicines or at a reduce rate.Also walmart has a generic program that costs you 4.00 a perscription.Perhaps you can get another kind of pain medicine.If you have adavan it will help with some of what you are going thru.Alot of county hospitals will have a program that you pay so much a month and you have access to their doctors and medicines.Good luck and God Bless.

Mr. Lorber, do you have leukemia? Just wondering, since most doctors onky prescribe such med's for that. If so I pray everyting works out ofr you. Why don't you ask a medical professioal where to retreive these med's at the cheapest price.

xanex is the only drug Iv'e ever had a bod withdrawl from, other than large amounts of Methadone taken once in the morning. Any drug called Darvo/cet/Darvoanything isn't worth a nickle for the whole company. Ababy asprin will kill more pain. Don't let any doctor sucker you into wasting your money on it. It is a bad joke.

please check out help places such as medicaid or clinics - make one call and ask them to refer you to someone else that can help - thru this process you can come up with someone that can treat your conditions and help with meds - i'm so sorry - i have fm and all the rest that goes with it including degenerative disk disease with stanosis (s) - can't imagine being in that much pain with no help - please try to find help for yourself and God Bless

depends on dose you were on. If you took as prescribed for a month or two it shouldn't last more than 4 to 5 days
