What is Lisinopril most used for?Lisinopril is used to lower blood pressure. Although not a complete cure, it relaxes blood vessels to control high blood pressure (also known as hypertension). Remember that having high blood pressure is dangerous, and can lead to stroke, heart failure, or kindey damage. Patients with heart failure may also take Lisinopril.
Possible Side EffectsNotify your doctor ASAP if any of the following side effects surface: dizziness, lightheadedness / fainting spells, fatigue, fever or chills, difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, fast or uneven heart beat, palpitations, chest pain, numbness or tingling in your fingers or toesdecreased amount of urine, skin rash, itching, change in taste, cough, swelling of your face / lips / tongue, severe diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, excessive sweating. The loss of body fluid can make it dangerous to take Lisinopril
Less Common Side EffectsAlert your doctor if the following persist, altough they do not usually need urgent medical care: headache
Possible Drug Interactions with LisinoprilThe following may interact with this drug: antiinflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen), potassium salts, heparin, water pills, hawthorn, medicines for high blood pressure, lithium.
Before Being Prescribed LisinoprilLet your physician know if any of the following conditions apply to you: surgery coming up, lupus or other autoimmune diseases; weakened immune system; previous swelling of the tongue, face, or lips; difficulty breathing; difficulty swallowing, hoarseness, or tightening of the throat (angioedema); if you are on a special diet, such as a low-salt diet; bone marrow disease; kidney disease; low blood pressure; heart or blood vessel disease; pregnant or trying to get pregnant; breast-feeding; an unusual or allergic reaction to Lisinopril, other ace inhibitors, foods, dyes, or preservatives
How to Take LisinoprilThis medicine can be taken by mouth. Always take them with water, and read all the instructions on the label or the prescription. Be sure to take your medicine regularly, and as instructed. Only stop taking this medicine if you are directed by your physician. This, like any drug, should be used with caution in children, and with their doctor's approval.
If you Miss a Dose of LisinoprilTake Lisinopril ASAP; If your next dose is near take only THAT SINGLE dose. Never take extra or double doses. This includes situations such as missing an entire day (do not take a double dose the next day!)
Tell Your DoctorYou should notify your prescriber about any other medicines you are currently taking (which includes vitamins, supplements, herbal products, over the counter non-prescription medications, etc.) Also, if you frequently consume alcoholic beverages, caffeine, illegal drugs, or cigarettes, Lisinopril may be affected. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS GET THE FINAL ANSWER FROM YOUR PHYSICIAN.
While You Are Taking LisinoprilGo to your doctor for regular checkups. Be sure to monitor your blood pressure frequently. If you notice ANY of the side effects listed above, NOTIFY YOUR PHYSICIAN. Remember if you have a sore throat or a fever, these MAY be side effects of Lisinopril and you may not decide to treat them. Do not drive or operate machinery or do anything which calls for mental alertness until you know how Lisinopril will affect you.
How to Store LisinoprilAlways keep this out of reach of children in an appropriate container. Store at room temperature (typically between 59-86 degrees fahrenheit / 15-30 degrees celcius). Keep the container tightly closed to protect this medicine from moisture. Dispose of any unused medication after it has expired.
