Drug Overview

Acetaminophen + Hydrocodone combines two types of pain medicine to treat moderate to severe pain. The Hydrocodone (related to codeine) is in a class of drugs called narcotic analgesics (which act in the central nervous system [CNS] to relieve pain), while the Acetaminophen (a less potent pain reliever) is used to boost the effects of the Hydrocodone. It is important to know that this medication can become extremely addicting, and your doctor might recommend for you to gradually lower your dose after being on it for several weeks. It is a violation of federal law to provide/transfer Acetaminophen + Hydrocodone to anybody other than the person who it was prescribed for. This medicine is available in many different forms under numerous other brand names (including a Generic form).

Possible Acetaminophen + Hydrocodone Side Effects

As with any prescription drug, keep your doctor informed of any and all side effects. You may also experience constipation from Acetaminophen + Hydrocodone. If you do, then be sure to take a laxative or stool softener. You should be having a bowel movement at least once every 2-3 days. If not then your physician might recommend that you receive assistance such as an enema or a suppository. It is also important to note that may over-the-counter products contain acetaminophen (such as Tylenol, etc.) - read the labels carefully and avoid them in order to avoid an accidental overdose.
