Please Help: Need Answers To Get Off Dilaudid I have been taking 3 to 4 8mg (24-32mgs) Dilaudid pills at 1 time usually around 3:00pm everyday for about 2 1/2 years now for back and nerve damage and would like to know the best way, medication, and dosage to get off this drug, also how long and how bad I will feel detoxing. The only time I have energy and feel good is the 2 or 3 hours after taking the drugs. Every muscle and bone in my body aches like I have a severe case of arthritis , i'm sleepy-but can't sleep an entire night, get a runny nose, yawn constantly and tired. Dilaudid Doesn't Work For Pain I am allergic to Vicodin and Percocet so for my last 2 surgical procedures have been prescribed 4mg oral Dilaudid. I understand that it is a very powerful pain reliever but I get minimal relief from it so is it possible that my pain receptors are not responsive to this type of medication? The only other pain med that I take is Lodine (NSAID) for arthritis. It seems that I get more pain relieve from 2 Tylenol but am still in alot of pain with that. Both times after surgery I have stopped taking the Dilaudid after 3 days because I'm still in pain and on top of that constipated. Can Dilaudid Make You Have Joint And Muscle Pain I have been taking dilaudid 8 mg 3 times a day for degenerative disc disease. It seems that I have been in more pain than when I was taking Vicodin. I have muscle and joint pain. My legs and feet hurt really bad sometimes it hurts to walk. I have tried telling my doctor but he just looks at me with this blank look on his face. False Negatives On Dilaudid I was recently told by my Pain Management Doctor that my urine tests are coming back with a complete NEGATIVE for Dilaudid use. I am prescribed 2 Pain meds., the reason being I have collapsing spine. Its proper name is Spondylothesis and I also have severe nerve damage. I am constantly in a great deal of pain, have had 13 spinal surgeries from 1972 through 1991. Thus, the nerve damage and a bit of scar tissue thrown in. my last MRI showed 11 bulging discs in cervical, thoracic and lumbar parts of my spine.My question is what can cause a false negative on the urine test ? I am prescribed 600 mg. of MS-Contin and 24 mg. of Dilaudid daily. Naturally -, I have a schedule as to when I take these meds. and try to keep as close to it as possible. I must also say that I take 6 OTHER medications prescribed by my Primary Physician. One of them is Simvastatin for cholesterol. Somewhere I read that Statins can cause false negatives with certain synthetic opiods, is this true ? HELP - Something is causing this false urine analysis for Dilaudid. I Was Taking Dilaudid 4 Mg., I Am Once At Night. This is the first night I did not need to take a pill. I take Ambien to sleep. I woke up shaking and my leg were moving. Ingot up to walk around,drank water,went back to bed,can't sleep. so I took one of my husbands Xanax I took 1/2 of a .5, try to rest and fall asleep, no good, 1/2 hour later I took another 1/2 of Xanax. Dilaudid Lethal Dosage? I am a stage IV cancer patient and member of an invitational research and survey type website. Members primarily consist of other stage IV cancer patients, but in some cases, may be the caregiver of a stage IV patient. A little over a month ago, a caregiver launched a blog-like diary of sorts. He states his wife has end-stage, metastasized, breast cancer. His postings started with news his wife had to be hospitalized when she began the dying process and indicating shut-down. However, many of his statements do not sound clinically correct or even possible. For example, after she was admitted to the hospice section of the hospital, he stated she emerged from days of a coma-like state to experience what he called a rally. This rally consisted of engaging in conversation with himself and hospital staff...only to sink into another coma-like state after being administered IV anti-biotics for a major infection due to compromised immune system (an extremely low, chemo-caused low white blood count). During this time, he also stated that both kidneys shut down...then...a week later, miraculously regained normal function. In still another posting, he describes she emerged from yet another coma-like state to devour a huge meal, although she had and was still on a PEG feeding tube!!! (All patients I know had to slowly acclimate over a period of several days to oral feeding with jello, puddings, non-spicy soups, etc.) He now states he has moved his wife back home where she can die in the comfort of familiar surroundings. Now at home, he described another coma-like experience, followed by yet another rally of low-level activity as if she had no health issues at all. Today, (July 23) his posting states she was in great pain the night before and her doctor increased her Dilaudid pain medication to 7mg/hour. If you had read between the lines of every post since this person started about 6-weeks ago, you'd quickly get the idea this person has the capacity to cause a faster than normal passing of his wife. For what reason?...so he can start re-establishing his social life! More than one prior comment had this type “social life” focus, though subtle. Far more troublesome are comments I feel would cause any perceptive person to wonder if he is capable of engaging in deliberate acts to cause his wife to expire sooner than later. In hopes a professional monitors this board, I have a quick question: Under her circumstances, does 7MG/hr of Dilaudid seem appropriate and correct...or...is does it sound more like an accumulative, lethal dose? I apologize for the length of this post, but am somewhat bothered by what may be the abuse (or worse) of a person that cannot defend themselves. Dilaudid As A Oxycodone Replacement? Hi I suffered a L1/L2 complete SCI injury some 4 years ago. After 6-7 weeks when the spinal shock wore off I noticed I had a burning pain in my lower groin area even though I can't really feel much below my hips, we thought maybe it was a UTI but all showed negative. It was diagnosed as chronic nerve pain and it never goes away, I get acute nerve pains in my legs ontop of this cronic pain. I have been taking 10mg Oxycodone four to five times per day and methadone 10mg once a day for the chronic pain + 800mg Gabapentin three times a day for the burning in my legs. The only way I have been able to keep my doses so low over the years is by being very hard on myself as to when to take the pain meds but as hard as I have tried I'm now going up to around 60mg total Oxycodone per day and 15mg Methadone. I have a very good pain Dr and we always wanted to do a pain med rotation before levels of any one drug got too high so we have changed the Oxycodone over to 2mg Dilaudid tablets. I have been told to try anything from 2-4mg at a time, four times per day to replace my Oxycodone. I have only just started to try the Dilaudid like 1day ago but even at 4mg it doesn't seem to work on my chronic nerve pain as well as my Oxycodone does, all it seems to do is make me sleepy and I can't have that. I work a proffesional demanding job where I can't be feeling out of it or tired. I was wondering if anyone here that has tried both maybe let me know if Dilaudid is normally replacement for Oxycodone? Should I be giving Dilaudid a few more days before throwing it off my list of pain meds? Or should it have worked straight away if it was going to work at all for me? If it doesn't work I'll have to return to Oxycodone and hopefully find something that we can replace it with that won't have terrible side effects and also let me work normally. I guess we could increase the methodone to make the oxycodone last longer, I find the methadone great like that but that is not a real solution to replacing the Oxycodone so we can give my body a rest from that kind of opiode and hopefully reset the switch so after a short period on the replacement drug I can return to a lower dose of Oxycodone. Why Is It So Hard To Sleep On Dilaudid? I have been a dilaudid addict for about a year and a half curruntly my doctor is trying to wean me off the 8mg pills by taking one off a week i am now on 3/day. Can Taking Dilaudid With Morphine Kill You. Two weeks ago my boyfriend passed away while in hospital for his Diverticulitis. He was given Morphine at 5pm and then 1 mg of Dilaudid at 8:20pm another 1mg at 9:20 then two more mg's at 11:30pm. Is that to close? Is that to much. His heart rate was at 128 bpm, he was ice cold to the touch. Heavy rasping breathing. Urine was almost black in color. Can you tell did the pain killer make things worse. Also, another question How do you know when dye that is used from testing leaves your system? If it does not how long to they have to remove it before it becomes deadly as it obviously killed him. My Son's Mother Shoots D's! Can I Stop Her? My son's mother has been addicted to almost every drug i know at some point. First it was cocaine, then vicadins, then somas and norcals,then she started taking dilaudids, a few days ago i caught her cooking them on a spoon and injecting them. She has fused disk in her spine so the doctor prescribes her 90 somas and 90 norcals per month. These drugs make her very drowsy due to her taking to many. So sells these and buys her dilaudid off the streets. I have tryed everything short of rehab to try and get her to stop using, she says her fused disk is a legitmate reason to take this drug, but she take more then the prescribed amount. I believe she just wants to get high. Now she is shooting the drug like a shot, I feel helpless and do not know what to do. A couple of days ago I did not give her any money to buy dilaudid when she was broke, it was the worst 2 days i ever had with her. She was really torn up. So now I know she needs to take the drug because the withdrawls are horrible. I have told her if she really needs the d's, she should have her doctor prescribe them for her. How Long Take Before Go Thru Witdarwal Been prescibed dilaudid last few months as a breakthru med. 4mg 2x day as/if needed. So I haven't taking everyday & somtimes 1/2 of the 4mg. Mainly take ms contin er. How long taking the dilaudid b/4 I go thru withdrawal if I stop taking the dilaudid?? Been on it here & then a few months?? Or taking the ms contin for yrs.
