Nuvigil - increasing dosage

I have been on 150mg Nuvigil per day for several years. Previous to that, I was on Provigil , but the insurance co. made the dr. switch me over to Nuvigil because it was supposedly less expensive. I am chronically ill and disabled with many health issues and have been this way for 10 yrs. I am also on 12-14 other meds. daily, many which make me drowsy - thus the need for Nuvigil. Recently , one of my other prescriptions(that has drowsy side effects) was increased, I don't know if it's a result of that or it's because I have been on it for so long, but it's not working as well as it used to. It may be a combination of both. I plan on calling my dr. first thing tomorrow, because I cannot keep my eyes open starting around approx 8 hrs. after taking my dose. I cannot stand being drowsy all the time. - 1 Reply

250 mg twice a day unheard of?

I take an older antipsychotic and in addition have sleep apnea. Nuvigil 250 mg 2 times a day makes me feel like a new person, yet most doctors are too timid to prescribe anything beyond what it says on the box.

I feel it's actually way more dangerous to be sleepy and driving around saying and doing dumb things, but I can't seem to get any MD's to think even a little bit 'outside the box'. Off-label they can write for whatever strength they want.

Nuvigil Doses

can anybody tell me if they are prescribed more than 250mg per day for nuvigil.....
I take a 250 mg tablet at 8 a.m. and feel like I need another by 2:00 in the afternoon......my day does not end until around 8:oopm ---I gotta be alert, alive and active till then.
I was taking Dexedrine for this "breakthrough" period, but that can not be had anywhere!...it's missing on the market, nobody (pharmacies) can get it anymore.
Nuvigil has been a miracle med for me, as many of my other psych meds cause extreme fatigue, pdoc prescribed this.....miraculous, not to mention helping me lift out of a two year depression....between this med (nuvigil) and Latuda---my life has finally changed....just trying to work out the kinks.

Disabled and can't get help from manufacturer of Nuvil

I am disabled live on a VERY limited income and NEED nuvigil to stay awake. I take medication for seizures and the medication makes me sleep all the time, nuvigil is the ONLY thing to date that I have found that works for me and gives me some Awake time. I applied for help from the manufacturer they denied it because I don't have a sleep disorder, I would say I do if I can't stay awake! 15 pills is over $200I guess they have the market so why not stick to people like myself. This isn't a drug for pleasure and I wish I didn't have to take it, I've run out of ideas other than going to Canada to get what I need. If anyone knows anything different pls tell me

Nuvigil Help / Severe opiate Addict

I am fresh off a 3 year opiate ride and to be quite honest I am the most weak and tired than I have ever been. The anxiety is killing me. All I want is a couple roxy and some morphine 60's. Before today I was up to about 12 roxy 30's and 10 morph 60's. I am quitting cold turkey and also quiting for the first time. I've heard this will absolutely not work and I will be a junkie again within a day. My friend gave me a handful of xanax, Nuvigil, and Naproxin. If any of you have experiences similar to mine please let me know if I can beat this with what I've been given for help being: Xan, Nuvigil, and Naproxin? I really dont want this life anymore. Everything I get asked to do like go to the movies, go out of state, or just hang for a couple hours all depends on whether or not I have enough pills! It sucks. I - 6 Replies

Nuvigil Crash and effects

I have been taking Nuvigil for a week to treat shift work sleep disorder. The first two times didnt have a huge effect on me but the third did and it was awesome. I stayed awake i was very productive and i experienced mental clarity beyond explaination. However, it only lasted about 4 1/2 hours before i felt the crash. The crash caused me sever anxiety, a killer migraine(i am prone to them already), a racing heart and pain in my chest and fatigue both mentally and physically. I get an overwhelming rush of depression, extreme memory losd, and a feeling that im forgetting something that i can not shake. I get extremely dehydrated which im determining to be the cause of the migraine. I cant sleep through the crash and when i finally can, i feel as though i were awakr the whole time. I dont know maybe i was awake and i just got lost in my thoughts? I just remember all these thoughts racing through my head and then looking at the time to find th - 6 Replies

What Happens If You Abuse Nuvigil

I started to abuse nuvigil and when I tried to stop I had bad symptoms. I felt lethargic, anxious, depressed, very tired (slept for over 20 hours on dayone of stopping) does anyone else have this problem. I am now 8 days clean but I still feel depressed, anxious and irritable. Please let me know if you have had the same issues . How long will it take for the nuvigil to stop "bothering" my mind and body. I am really appreciaive toanyone willing to be honest with me about this situation. I am an addict in general in many areas of my life , so I thought more is better. i was taking over 1000 mgs a day some days, other days, perhapps 750 mgs. - 1 Reply

I have been suffering from anxiety (along with some sort of epileptic fit disorder that seems to be baffling physicians ...for whatever reason.)
also, i get Very tired during the day. to the point where i could fall asleep (almost) anywhere. I (obviously) don't, but being that tired is VERY irritating to say the least.
I start taking Nuvigil 150 mg tablet tomorrow, and I am some-what worried about side affects this medication may have on someone (me) who had anxiety and gets easily "worked up" via "uppers" - 1 Reply

My doctor prescribed Provigil about 2 years ago then after my sleep study he put me on Nuvigil and wearing CPAP at night. In the past 6 months I have had problems with daytime sleepiness. Had another sleep study and blood work and found that testosterone level was 208. 3 months of testoterone injections and now I still have to take three 250mg nuvugil to make it through the day. Is there anything else to try and fix this mess? - 3 Replies

I do not have CFS, but I have been experiencing pretty severe fatigue on a daily basis for over 2 months. I began 150 mg of Nuvigil 3 days ago. It seems to have given me a lift but I still feel tired. I'm wondering:
-what is the usual effective dosage of nuvigil for this type of problem?
-and, does it have to build up in your system for a while before it's effectiveness can be judged or is it a short-acting med that is only effective for a little while after it's taken? - 3 Replies

Frustrated and Tired of Tired

I suppose I am in the first stages of figuring out what causes me to be tired all the time. I am frustrated, and memories are flooding in of the onset of my tiredness. I remember falling asleep in every class in 9th grade at the age of 14. I always assumed my tiredness was from one reason or another. With that said, recently I have been back and forth to the doctor for four months now. This last time he prescribed Nuvigil, and wants to order a sleep study. I was so excited at the prospect of feeling awake, and to my dismay I have not felt anything good. Headaches mainly, tired, anxiety, emotional, spaciness, and even on 200mg took a 2 hour nap. Blah! Been on 150mg dose still tired and don't feel as much anxiety and spaciness. It has only been a week, maybe I am giving up to fast. I don't know what it means that the nuvigil didn't work. Ive been working over night for a year now and I am in serious need of nuvigil or provigil. I am having trouble getting a hold of this medication. My doctor said he didnt believe in the drug so I no longer see him cuz I have a prroblem and he wouldnt help it. i have been on nuvigil for 5 gays 150 mg the first 3 days i felt great awake during the day and slept great at night. now when i take it I feel tired 3 hrs after i take it like i could take a nap. does that mean i need to take a higher dose or can i cut the pill in half and take it twice a day
