Fentanyl Withdrawal Symptoms
I'm trying to wean myself off the Fentanyl patch. I went from 75 micro-gms to 50 now I'm on 25. Having a problem and not sure it is related to the decrease in the med. It's been 20 days on the 25 micro-gm and I'm going crazy. I need to keep rocking, moving in any way b/c my body is very restless. Is this a symptom of withdrawal and what do I do? I cannot take it any more.

Fentanyl Patch
Hi, I'm on the 50mcg patch,my Dr. also has me on norco 10. I want to get off the patch so bad, but I'm fighting a staph infection for the second time in three months. Back in May I had injections in my lumbar, and four days later I was in the hospital with 104 degree fver. I ended up having emergency back surgery to clean out the infection. By the time I went to surgery (two days later, because my Dr.'s at thetime are idiots) I was septic, w/ 105 degree fever. Needless to say, I nearly died. When I finally got out of the hospital the second time, ( with NEW Dr.'s, my Pain Mngmt doc put me on Fentanyl 50, and dilaudid 2mg 3x a day, I couldn't function. So I asked my Dr to change my meds, she only changed the dilaudid to norco 10, one every 4 to six hours. Now after reading about fentanyl, I think I should have had the fentanyl decreased also. I don't know if I can trust a dr.'s decision anymore, and I'm afraid of when the time comes to get off the patch. I've only been on the patch fo a month, should I try nto wean off or it before I've been on it too long, and have major withdrawl? Please help, I don,t know if the patch is such a good idea anymore.

Fentanyl Patch, Temp Sensitive Etc
Hello, I am on fentanyl patch 50mcg. I think i got longer times on same medicine with pill medicine. This is longer times i have been on the medicine before needing an adjustment to a higher medicine. can you get tolerant faster on a patch verses a pill pain medicine? If a person naturually can heat up does the patch dump more medicine in the body and thus run out earlier then total three days? I also notice if you have lost muscle tone it seems the patch doesn't stick as well. IF the muscle is more away from the body could affect how medicine is delivered in body? I notice i can't water walk at all for if water gets to the patch i need another one before my time is up or more times when doesn't seem to work as well if water gets on it. I never take another patch but this is what feels like if gets wet. Think to yourself if the water took away from effectiveness of it. Are some people not able to get full benefit from patches from muscle conditions or skin types? I was allergic to other medicines by pill form except one so far and could be alot of medciines i don't know about. So i was forced to wear a patch rather then take a pill over whenever doctor seems to get overly excited if a medicine was on the news. Seems to dictate our pain relief for the day. they don't make the coverings for the patch affordable and package says to only wear a certain kind of covering. Since can't get in a pool or lose pain relief i have muscles that have deteriorated. I know many pain patients out there know full well how doctors can be. If media says oxycontin is latest scare then all of a sudden can't be on the medicine that works best for you anymore cause doctor watch the news. I noticed these issues with the patch. One issue is sometimes I will get a patch that doesn't work as well as others I had used and the white letterring is still on it and shows littler signs medicine released. Another patch can looked totally used with no letterring left on it and all medicine seems gone out of it in three days. So i wonder if because of manafacturing if is some patches don't release. I like dfrections about how put new patch on and only get so many a month and not an option if drop one or bent one before got to put it on skin. the pharmacist mentioned cases where bring patch in and refund patient back but it's a process. Is anyone having issues with the patch? is it like the pill where it can go up and down in the blood stream and not always have the same height of effectiveness at all times of the day? One last question? The package instructions show a picture of putting the patch on the chest above the breast and under the clavicle or on side of the arm. Is there a reason for that or did just pick two spots to show us how to wear it? I have used it other spots. Notice instructions indicated a right and wrong way to apply it. Are there places not to put the patch? Can pretty much wear it anywhere? the cake lady.

Fentanyl Patches Sideffects And Withdrawal Symptom
My husband, age 77, developed severe acute pancreatitis and has been in the hospital for the past 8 months. He has been on Fentanyl patches (the lowest dose) plus some extra fentanyl injections anytime the nurses thought he might be feeling pain. His pancratitis healed in 3 months, but by then he developed a huge back bed sore. From the beginning, even when they were giving him morphine at the beginning, before the fentanyl patches, he developed breathing and sleeping problems, with intermittent rapid panicky breathing spells. With the patch, he has had also halluciantions and was forever either totally sleepless or totally drowsy. Because of the breathing problems, he has now a tracheatomy. His immune system was also compromised and he had several severe infections, i.e. lung and blood infections. Even though his pancratitis healed at the end of March, he was still on the Fentanyl patches, because of the bed sore and also, that he might be uncomfortable for being so long in the hospital. Since he was receiving intravenous feeding and antibiotics, he has a line inserted in his arm and because the tracheotomy is limiting his food choices, gets food through a stomach tube. The breathing problems are the worst, since this holds up any progress he might make. The doctors did not want to take the fentanyl patches off. I had finally persuaded the nurses to discontinue them, but then my husband had horrible withdrawal symptoms, with shakes, occassional fever, hallucinations, and again sleeplessness and later total drowsiness. This has been repeating itself for the last 6 weeks, now with the halluciantions and the shakes gone, but still the irregular rapid breathing, agitation, sleeplessness and then excessive drowsiness remaining. He also had a white discahrge from his lungs, even he had no infections anymore. How long is this going to continue? Please help.

Update: Weaning, Hot Fashes And Cutting Patches
UPDATE: My doc's office just called back. When I told them what the Mylan comp. said they wanted me to come in right away. They paniced when I told them what the comp. said about the kidneys and hot flashes. I also told them the patches are NOT to be cut for weaning. She replied OH. So, she gave me an appt. to see them Wed. ARGH!

Fentanly Patches... Weaning, Body Heat, Cuttting
I have been reading all of the posts on Fent. pain patches. I have been on 25 MG since March 2009. I was on one brand and could not get it to stay stuck after a hot flash. I am in surgically induced menopause. The pharm then switched brands, which do stick better. But I have noticed about an hour after a hot flash that I get dizzy and sick to my tummy. I also am in stage 3 kidney failure. I decided to call the number on the back Mylan box. YES, body temp. changes, such as fever or menopause, or even rise from exercise, can cause the patch to release more med than it should. ALSO, in my talking with the company I learned I should NOT be taking it with my kidney failure as it IS processed thru the kidneys. I am going to a highly respected pain doc in our area. When I told them about the kidneys back in March, they said it would be fine. Also, they said due to the hot flashes, I should replace the patch every 48 hrs. insted of 72. After learning what I did from the company I asked the doc to wean me off of them. He told me to cut the patch in half and due the 48 hr. routine for 2 weeks. Well, I know the box insert said not to use cut patches. So I called the company yet again. They confirmed it, DO NOT CUT THE PATCHES. Some people on here said it's okay to cut the Mylan brand patch, IT IS NOT OKAY. So now I am waiting for the doc to call back to change my dose and get off of these patches. I feel the risks far outweigh the benefits for me.
