What Not To Say During Suboxone Appt (Page 4)

Updated

My boyfriend has battled with heroin addiction for at least 2 years now. He was prescribed to before, but couldn't afford the maintenance program and ended up banging heroin again. He went back to his doctor to get a script for suboxone again last week, and the doctor wouldn't prescribe it to him. I found another dr who can prescribe suboxone nearby, and want to make sure he gets a script because he will die if he doesn't quit using. Does anyone know any reasons why a dr wouldn't prescribe suboxone? Thanks.

I've been in Subutex pills 4over 5yrs. Its seems 2 b stronger than suboxone. Sum people I know snort them & shoot them. I know if tried many times 2 stop all 2gether. I take 1aday use 2 take 4aday. Only from a pk addiction. I use 2 get sick from suboxone but not these. I now have 2 find a Dr that prescribes subutex & I'm not having any luck. I wish the best 4 all us addicts. My family doesn't understand.

I have my partner on an Atods program its the best yet. It helps his cravings and he has dropped down on his suboxone within a couple of months he is happy to be on this program as he finds it successful in so many ways we pay $50 a fortnight and he gets his dosage everyday the best thing ever to help...

Thanks for sharing your story with me. It's so similar to what I'm going through! I just found out a few days ago that cps is going to take my daughter away. I feel so bad and so stupid for letting this happen! I know I need help but I guess I just dont really know how to go about getting it! I tried getting an appointment with the only dr that prescribes suboxones here but there's like a 3 month wait! Anyways, now that I f***ed everything up, I wanted to ask you and anyone else, how do I go about getting my daughter back and how do I get my family to understand what's going on? They're the ones that called cps on me so I kinda feel betrayed by them! :(

You won't be able to find out much here on how to go about getting your daughter back, state to state the laws will vary... usually you have to complete a course or attend parenting classes and pass a few tests showing you're not on any illicit substances.

I went to my dr that issues subs this morning in full withdrawal. Blue, oxys, opana, perc 10s. She told me about the sub program and how you have to go to meetings. She never did ask me if I want to try it. I guess she felt my issue wasn't as bad as H or something. But she gave me scripts for clonodine, hydroxyzine, doxepin and I have klonopin. Told me to take Imodium for the runs and these pills for Stomach cramps. I was thinking to myself what the fck?! I felt like hell but this stuff is supposed to help me detox at home. I just want to go score something that I know will make me feel instantly better and I told her as soon as I leave this office I'm going to try to score. But she said since the subs were very hard to get off just like H that she didn't advise it. I'm confused and scared. I'm tired of being under the opiate umbrella but I can't walk around and work feeling like this.

Doctor's who talk like that should be barred. They don't know addiction treatment and don't need to be steering patients away from Suboxone...so what if it's hard to quit Suboxone....it's harder to come back to life after you OD on opiates. It's also harder to undo the damage done by an addict who is dope-sick and trying to do whatever they can to score. I wish someone with a degree would try to tell me how their college education taught them how I feel...I'd give them a good piece of my mind while telling them where to go, and what to kiss...

At any rate...ANY drug is hard to quit. Doctors say this crap when they don't wanna fool with it...but Suboxone is a HELL of a lot easier to taper and stop than friggin heroin...or any other opiate that has been abused for a lengthy period of time. They don't care to divulge that info. Personally, if I encountered your doctor, I'd tell her she needs to have her license REVOKED, become a junkie, and find out for herself what life is like as someone hooked, then she could pass judgment on what's her preferred method of quitting. This holier than thou attitude some doctors have isn't for people with addiction problems and these doctors shouldn't be wasting anyone's time by dabbling in Suboxone.
Either your doctor is greedy and wants to hold the Suboxone spot for someone she deems "more" of an addict, or she doesn't know what addiction really is and just took the 8-hour course for some extra money. (The data2000 course that allows them to prescribe Suboxone in the first place)

I'm on 2 8mg suboxone tabs per day. If you are an addict to opioids and need help, you can easily get suboxone. Tell the doc about how you became addicted and how much your dose is. If u don't be honest, you will not be prescribed the proper amount. The doc is required to make you seek counseling and will give u drug test. You can't have weed or anything other than suboxone in your system or you will be cut off. Your boyfriend probably did something stupid. He probably loves the heroin too much to commit to a program to get better.

If you were truly an addict, and saying someone did something stupid...then that just doesn't make sense now, does it? Anyone who will let a pill control them doesn't have much room to make assumptions about others and their addictions...so making that statement is quite unnecessary. We all did something stupid if we need to be on Suboxone...and just because someone isn't to a point to be serious yet doesn't mean they are any less deserving than the ones who are...we're talking about something that kills hundreds of people DAILY....not smoking a cigarette or an addiction to chocolate. Have some empathy..or quite frankly, use some common sense about telling others how they've done something stupid.

I have been on pain meds for 6 years. There are not enough pills to help the pain. My doctor suggested suboxone for pain - I am scared. I am on morphine now and never have enough for the month

You should try...suboxone doesn't act the same way as pain meds...but works great for pain. and you don't have to take overdose amounts to achieve that.

I've been on the same dose for around 5 years now. I never go up, or down. Works the same now as it did on day 1.

Hang in there sweetie. You CAN do this. I have been on every opiate avail to me for 15 years....everyday! I found a suboxone doctor a month ago and have been off all of the other s*** ever since. Not saying that I haven't tried to quit before, multiple times, but this time I am truly 100% ready to rid this monkey from my back. I have a totally different mind set about quitting. This time I want to, not just trying to just to shut up the people from b****ing at me. If you are seriously ready to drop that f***ing monster, find a suboxone doctor , pay the money, and get your sub script. It saved my life.

You do realize many people TRUST their doctors to get them free of legitimate pain and don't realize the side effects of coming off these drugs, such as withdrawal, until it's too late, right?! Even still you're completely off base, but that's just one example where your "choice" point seems pretty moot to me. Why don't you make a "choice" to educate your mind and check your ugly, judgmental VERBAL DIARRHEA (as JM ALABAMA so rightfully called it) at the door.

To JM Alabama or anyone else really educated (or preferably with personal experience) on suboxone: Just to quickly give you background. I was put on oxy's and other strong pain meds 12 years ago, and was told I'd "feel crappy for a few days when I was without them" - the understatement of the century! Anyway, about 6 years ago I got put on methadone plus Dilaudid for the pain because I found that with methadone I could take it really for the pain, and not just to feel normal and keep away the withdrawal. No more waking up in the middle of the night in the sweats if I happened to sleep an hour too long, feeling like I wanted to die. It totally has a ceiling effect for me; I can take more on days when I'm hurting and less on days when I'm not and feel no different. I feel normal on it and I'm not on a maintenance program so I don't have to go anywhere everyday. Problem is, I still feel trapped, cuz I know if I don't have it how I will feel, and I just really want to try and get off of everything altogether and evaluate the situation fresh. I was interested in trying suboxone, but on reading some posts that the withdrawal is as bad as anything else, I'm rethinking even trying it and just sticking with my current medical program. BTW, please, please be realistic with the withdrawal symptoms of this drug...I'm not trying to give a sob story but I know from past experience I cannot make it thru withdrawal. My sanity can't take it at this point and my daughter already only has one parent because her father/my husband committed suicide I believe in part to withdrawal, and I will be in the same place if I make the wrong move; I just know it. Also, how is suboxone for pain? Am I just trading one vice for another or can I really get clean with this suboxone...not maintained on something - clean? Suggestions/advice? Good luck to everyone out there, no matter what your situation or why you're using <3.

You might feel nobody cares about you but I do and hope you're getting your life together. I'm sorry this is so long after your post. I just read it for the first time today. You can do this and maybe a year after your post you have. I hope so. You deserve it and if you're in a relationship that is encouraging you to continue this behavour stop it now. Walk out and do whatever necessary to get your life in order. If you need someone to talk with I'm here for you.
Take care

John
