Muscle Pain From Warfarin? (Page 3)

Updated

Hi. I have been taking warfarin for 4 months. Prior to my PE when landing home from a long flight I was very active running and swimming every day. Since the attack every muscle and many leg joints ache all the time. Is this a side effect from medication? Thanks.

Been on it for 130 days now, no side effects that I can tell. It's a designer drug, warfarin does not thin your blood anyway, it stops it clotting. Xarelto or whatever the other names for it is, does it in a different way, wiki it for info. And no blood work! that is worth it in itself.

My onc doc put me on Warfarin last week due to a blood clot and within 4 days I was howling in pain, my leg felt like it was on fire - got to the hospital, doped up, x-rayed, ultrasound, they found nothing. I couldn't bear weight on my leg and it was numb and useless. I looked up the side effects of Warfarin: "sudden and severe leg or foot pain, foot ulcer, purple toes or fingers;" second one on the list. I knew it. I stopped that stuff and will never use it again. I have always been athletic and strong. My leg is finally almost normal, a bit numb around the knee cap and I'm able to walk steady on it now. Oh, and the blood clot? gee, now they can't find it. and there were questions from other radiologists regarding the clot ever existed. The Coumadin Clinic they insisted I go to didn't even acknowledge the leg pain I was beginning to go through when I was there. I strongly suspect there is a pharmaceutical influence on these docs where they are encouraged to prescribe drugs for some kind of payoff.

Had bilateral multiple PEs in early May and have been on warfarin for about a month and experience back pain that just does not go away. Have little bubbles on chest, had one instance of extreme nausea with uncontrollable urge to vomit, have had some diarrhea off and on.

My experience was similar; had an injury on April 20, 2014, didn't move around a lot and, looking back, probably was dehydrated--when I presented to the emergency room I definitely was dehydrated. Was seen by several doctors while in hospital but only one or two said the injury had anything to do with the PEs. How stupid can they be? Ultrasound of both legs show absolutely no evidence of clotting issues. I am beginning other methods to deal with this. Best to you.

Fluroquinolones and many other drugs are delivery methods for putting more fluoride in our bodies. Fluoride is an utter poison. Get off it when you can.

Hi Sonny,
I'm sorry that all this has happened to you, especially the misdiagnosis. My daughter is currently being treated for breast cancer - she is a little older than you but still young. I was on warfarin for a heart arythmia - atrial fibrillation - not a PE but wanted to reply to your heartfelt message. Having such a life threatening illness is in itself a reason for depression, let alone being so young and misdiagnosed for months. You are at an age when most of us feel invincible and ready to take on the world. You have been hit in the head with a diagnosis that forces you to look your own mortality in the eye. Most people who recover from a life threatening illness experience fear and depression. Sometimes I think the depression, if it is not severe, is a way that our body/mind/spirit slows us down to focus on healing and how we want to live the next stage of our lives. Clinical depression is a different thing, especially if you feel suicidal. If you are feeling this way, it is important that you seek medical help.

I live in Canada so may have a different health care system than you but I think it is important to see a specialist to turn over any potential causes of you PE so you can make changes to prevent a reocurance. I have found personally that I have to persevere and keep asking for what I need in a pleasant and polite way. It also might help if you could somehow find an individual or group of young people who have faced a life threatening illness. It often helps to share with someone who truly understands. I also would like to recommend mindfulness meditation to help calm your busy worrying mind. Jon Kabat Zinn has resources on the internet and has written several books. The loving kindness meditation is one I use often when I feel unsafe.

All the best to you in your recovery. You are very early on your path and need to patient with yourself as you make sense of the life changing illness that happened to you. You made a great step in reaching out to others.
Take care, Caroleeg

Thank you caroleeg for your adcice i apreciate it so mch.. i went to a blood specialist and he drew alot of blood to see if its a genetic thing that caused me to get a chronic pulmonary embolism. This is too much for me my family thinks im faking my sickness they think its nt a big deal theyre not supportive at all.. my fioncei is there for me but im always sick always its stressfull just had a bby 6months old. I cant work cant provide i feel helpless. And then knowing a clot can kill me or its gng to eventually i dont thinkso.. i had chronic pulmonary embolism i was gonna die clot was big in my lung of how many times i got mis diagnosed i couldnt breath my heart rate would go up 220.. i can deal with this im 22yrs old i cant live like ths:(.. i am thinking suicide planing it. I had DVT put down to birth control, within 9 days I was in so much pain with my stomach and swelling under my ribs, my hair was falling out using the showerhead and without me touching it, the burning pains in my back and pains in my arms and sides were excruciating. Thought I had DVT in the good leg due to constant cramping, had Doppler turned out enlarged groin lymph node. For 8 weeks I was told by the coag clinic to get my warfarin changed to synthrome, but the doc wanted it in writing from a consultant, finally got hold of my consultant through DVT clinic and it was week 9, he said I could stop the warfarin, was supposed to be 12 weeks. Its been over a week now and I am nearly back to how I was before the medication, still waiting for pains in my sides to stop completely and my hair to stop falling out. Had a hell of a time. Coag clinic could see how ill it was making me and have put in my notes if I need this medication again to try synthrome.

Sonny: I recently went through being misdiagnosed also. I had to keep going to the ER because of pain in my abdomen. I was told I had a kidney stone, then I was told I had gas pains. etc. Finally, a doctor decided to do further testing and they found I was FULL of blood clots in my abdomen and had 2 pulmonary embolisms. I was rushed to a hospital an hour away and thrown into ICU. I also was in the hospital 10 days. I am now on Warfarin for life. I never had back pain as severe as I have had in the past few months. I also have chest pain and severe pain on my side. I have just decided this is something I have to live with since the doctors cannot tell me why I have pain. I too have changed since all of this happened. I am terrified I am going to have another blood clot. Doctors never could tell me why this happened. I was tested and have no abnormalities with my blood. I had so many blood clots they could not count them all in my abdomen. I am depressed and scared. I am 44 and feel like I am 80.

Hi,
Sorry for your discomfort. My father was on warfarin for years. His muscle pain gradually increased. My family believes his muscle pain was from Warfarin. He was switched to Xeralto (sp?) which was worse and I believe responsible for his death. At least with Warfarin your blood levels can be checked. Good luck

I am usually a really upbeat girl and lately i have just really been feeling like my time is up. I have had the worst digestion i have ever had, chest pains, aches in my arms, and lack of sleep due to these problems. i just want my life back. Thank you so much for sharing this information. I am also telling everyone i know about these enzymes and how we all should be taking them....thank u so much sue!!!

Well been on Xarelto nearly a year now, no aches and pains anymore. As far as I can say no side effects but too early in the drugs life to tell. One yearly blood sample and one easy pill is like freedom from Warfarin. I say no side effects and probably coincidence but will put it out there if anyone else has the same. Diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes six months ago, age 47, and last week underactive thyroid. Now could just be one of them things time will tell.
