Kapidex (active ingredient Dexlansoprazole) has been launched in the US for use in the treatment and maintenance of patients with erosive oesophagitis and non-erosive reflux disease, i.e. gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD or GORD).

To learn more click on the link below....

Common side effects while taking Kapidex are: Stomach ache (bloating, gas, diarrhea), nausea, respiratory tract infection, and vomiting.

More serious side effects are: Serious allergic reactions that may cause iching due to a rash, trouble breathing, peeling/swollen skin, and blistering.

Are your spots similar to blisters? If so I would seek medical attention right away. If these are not what you are experiencing, please post back so I can try to help you further.

My Mother started taking Kapidex and ended up in hospital with severe chest pains. Dr. ran EKGs, Xrays, Ultra sound and Upper GI but found no reason for pains. She also has been having severe diarrhea. Had no idea of these side effects.

I just started KAPIDEX yesterday. I've noticed my throat seems dry, I have lower GI gas and I am experiencing what feels like low blood sugar but none of these symptoms are new to me so I don't know if it's something else or the KAPIDEX. I'll see what happens tomorrow.

I was only meant to be on it for 2 weeks then go back to Prilosec which doesn't seem to cause side affects in me.

Tried ACIPHEX once for a few weeks and did not feel well on it.

My husband started on Kapidex a couple of weeks ago. Since then he gets bumps (size of a pea) and itchy and he thought they were mosquito bites. But he just keeps breaking out with them. Do you think these are hives??

Any bumps or itchy spots after starting a new drug, I would go off drug and call doctor.

I had a bad skin reaction to Neurontin years ago and my dermatologist, who was very good by the way, didn't really give my powers of observation the credit that I deserved.

I started taking Kapidex a week ago and ended up in the ER last night because I got severe upper chest pain and pressure similar to (woman's) heart attack symptoms. The heart is OK but pain persisted today. Also have lots of gas and diarrhea. This pill seems to need more testing. Nothing like this happens with Prilosec or Nexium.

To LBH:

I hope you feel better soon. I never thought that these proton pump inhibitors could cause so many serious side effects but I found out personally as well.

I get heart attack feeling pain from my GERD. I'm back to taking Prilosec. It's not perfect but I didn't feel well within a week of taking ACIPHEX and KAPIDEX. Kapidex gave me lots of nasty gas as well.

I asked my Gastroenterologist for surgery to help my GERD but he insists it's not bad enough and that I should continue on the PPIs that I can tolerate.

Take care and you are not alone.

Dear Magda: Thank you for your concern. It has now been a full 48 hours since I took the last Kapidex pill and I feel almost completely better. But yesterday I still had the same pain, gas, etc. I am not even sure if I took the Kapidex for a full week or just took a few pills. I am throwing it away and have gone back to Prilosec too. It really helped to have this site confirm that the symptoms relate to the Kapidex. I asked my doctor to submit an incident report to NIH. Warm regards.

Had severe reflux since Oct, wasn't diagnosised until March. Was started on Kapidex now having right sided abdonminal pain. I have had every test made to man and every test came back normal. I have had alot of gas since taking this medicine. I think I am going back on Prilosec since my reflux seems to be better. I can't take this gas pain and abdominal pain

I started taking Kapidex about three weeks ago for GERD. Since that time I have had diarrhea and severe gas. The diarrhea comes and goes; but the gas stays. The Kapidex has worked well for the GERD; so I'm willing to use it for a little longer. I used Nexium before which didnt work quite as well. Like others, I have had the dry throat symptoms; but a glass of water close by seems to address that issue.

After taking kapidex along with amitiza for several months, I started having a slow, irregular heartbeat that was a harder than my usual heartbeat. I stopped taking both drugs and last week was diagnosed with the left side of my heart being enlarged.

I took Kapidex for 6 months and in that time i had a myriad of symptoms. I had to see 5 different doctors because i was trying to figure out what was causing each of my symptoms. Finally my GI doctor told me I was having a severe allergic reaction and to stop taking Kapidex.Within a couple days all of my symptoms went away except one.Within a week I was in the hospital having my gallbladder removed. Kapidex was the only medication I was on. My symptoms were anemia, vertigo, ear pain, vision changes, impaired gastric empying, vomiting, asthenia, sinusitis, arthralgia, respiratory tract congestion, extremely high bloob pressure, constant coughing, vivid dreams, and upper extremity skin pain. The only symptom that remains is joint pain that seems to go from one joint to another.I am now seeing a rheumatologist to get some kind of treatment for the pain. Before Kapidex I was a healthy person my only problem was GERD.

After a week on Dexilant 60mg I broke out in hives and eyelids got red, itchy and swollen. Won't be able to continue the drug.
