I've had the same experience. I think instead of the nicotine it is something else in the tobacco. Maybe MOAI in the tobacco plant. It cold be a chemical in the mgf of cigs. It could also be a reaction to satisfying the addiction to something in cigs as well as nicotine. Also gum is released slowly and cigs give you a quick hit.

I had a similar experience. I was dealing with treatment resistant depression and had quit all my meds bc of the side effects. I had a bout of vertigo that caused me to pass out several times. I was prescribed Transderm Scop (the scopolamine transdermal patch used for motion sickness) after having the patch on for about 8 hours or so I realized I was feeling better as far as my depression. By the next day I felt great. I googled it and found out about the NIMH study and I was so excited! I talked to my GP and he said "if it works for you, lets do it." Ive been using the patches for about 2 months. I feel like I need a higher dosage now though so im doing research online for clinics near me that may be able to help. If this works for your daughter, keep pushing! My only side effects have been slight blurry vision and dry mouth. Waaaaaay better than the constant catatonic state from the drugs ive tried before.

Are you saying that the addition of scopolamine to your ketamine treatment helped your depression significantly?

Can you tell me how the scopolamine worked for you while trying to taper the Valium? I am in the same spot. Tapering valium with some growing seasonal depression and anxiety. My doctor is suggesting the protocol you did. Did you have any interactions
with the two drugs?

Katamine "helps" everyone. It is now considered a "street drug". Ketamine is not the protocol they are talking about here to treat Depression, especially to "Treatment Resistant Depression" lasting for years, not responding to standard treatment
What IS being evaluated is the metabolic "Hydronorketamine". Ask your Dr if this will help you with your particular diagnosis.

Is Scopolamine FDA approved? Do any pharmacies carry it? If so, how much does it cost? Thank you.

You can buy Scopolomine over the internet, I believe on Amazon. It's sold for an upset stomach.

Hi Guys,

Well, it appears that the scopolamine patches just aren't working for me. I've been on them for almost two weeks now and I haven't noticed any shift in mood since looking the mood boost that the ketamine infusion gave me which lasted about 3 weeks to a month.

I am writing to let you all know about a doctor out of San Diego who, after an initial consultation, will provide you with a ketamine nasal inhaler. According to her website and some others that I have read, an intravenous infusion or ingesting the ketamine via a nasal spray is much more effective than orally dosing.

Her name is Dr. Nancy Sajben and she is out of Scripps Institute. Her initial intake visit fee is around $800 but the actual prescription of self administered ketamine (made at a local compounding pharmacy) is only about $80.00 for a several month supply. I have made an appointment with her in a couple of weeks and look forward to getting the same relief that I got with the infusion that I got at UCLA but at a vastly reduced price. I just can't come up with $1,250.00 every time I need a reduction in my depression and anxiety symptoms.

Do a web search using her name, ketamine and depression and you will find out all the info you need if you are interested in following this path a bit further.

Best,

Michael

Hi Callie are you wearing the patches continuously or every couple of days? In the study they found that the antidepressant effects would last for a week or more after they switched to the placebo. If you are getting a good result then you may be able to go a few days between watering a patch which would give you some time without the dry mouth and other side effects. I'm not a doctor though so I don't know if that will work or not for you. I wish I could offer you a tip for dealing with the skin problem. Thankfully I haven't run into that. If there is no lasting damage from that then perhaps you could look at it as a trade off for not having depression. Every antidepressant seems to have one or two bad side effects of some sort.

Scott I don't think you would gain anything from a sample of the nasal spray . Dr, Sajben works with you using a mixture of drugs including ketamine. Over a period of 2 months I gradually increased the dose and I imagine she May give me a stronger concentration on our next visit. It definitely does something. As I said I've noticed it's impact on OCD. I've posted a few times about the intranet nasal ketamine and no one but you has responded. It is subtle. It is much Leeds expensive. I am doing a regular regimen with it and I carry it with me.

Thanks Ruth. Too bad not more is being reported about this usage if it helps. The only thing that works ok for me is the benzos ( Klonopin ). I tried the Scopolomine patch, but that just made me a little dizzy. Didn't do much. Hopefully the Ketamine becomes more popular. Glad it helps you. God bless. Scott

How did the inhaled ketamine compare to the IV transfusion? Did it work as well? I have an appointment with the doctor you mentioned, but I'm wondering if I should cancel and go for the transfusion instead. Thanks in advance.

confused why you were prescribed ANY medication for SAD which is caused and fixed by light, exspecially why you were prescribed something as strong as valium. Your "cutting edge'' doctors put you on medications that cause addiction for something that can be simply fixed through a special light lamp, or going outside, or melatonin related therapy

You will be a guinea pig for the scopolamine, but I hope you consider the actual cause of your depression if you strongly suspect it's S.A.D., you are lucky to maybe fix it through natural means, not appease to Big Pharma. I hope you find what works, nutrition, exercise, and light imbalance should always be considered by doctors.
