Is It Ok To Take Vicodin With Suboxone? (Page 2)

Updated

Hi. I am having a procedure done and am being prescribed vicodin. I am currently on suboxone. I WILL NOT take the vicodin unless I am in excruciating pain. Would suboxone help with the pain? And if I do have to take the vicodin how long should I wait to take it after taking suboxone? THANKS!

Been on subs 2 yrs. taking 1/2 strip (4/1) as the ratio would follow and 2 weeks ago cut my dose. I have the best addic doc in the state and I took upon myself to cut from 1/2 to 1/3 a strip. Percentage wise that is about 30% drop in med. felt very few if any side affects, things have been normal. Doc said that any noticeable effects would occur 24-48 hrs after cut in dose. Long past that point and feeling fine... Frankly, much of it is mental and my advice, those first 48 hrs, keep occupied, you won't even notice it. Funny how the brain works, when you tell yourself you want the sub you will, believe me been there. Once you reach the point where mentally you want to cut your dose and don't want to turn back, you'll get there. I cold turkeyed 150mg oc a day and haven't turned back in 2 yrs. did the first 2 month no sub, it was perseverance. Get to that same point with the sub where you don't think or worry about the dose cut and you'll be 100% good to go. Trust me. Been as low as possible and you have to tell yourself and believe the bs your telling yourself is just that, bulls***, in order to achieve the mental state of being to get off. I will be cutting my dose again in 1 month and have told myself I won't take another sub after may 1 14'. Set dates and goals and stick to em no Mather what, that's what mentally motivating yourself will do. Don't falter from it either. Your mind can overpower itself, don't let it. Wake up one day and say I'm doing it and don't second guess yourself a bit, second guessing is a way out. Don't give yourself a way out and you will prosper. Wish you the best of luck, hope this helps even in the slightest.

Withdrawl can last longer than 6 days. It took me over a month...and I was on it for 6yrs straight.

I'm sure this person is by now out of pain but for any other people that stumble upon this page... Suboxone helps with pain until you are acclimated to it. After which if you have pain, STOP the suboxone and start taking an opiate asap. It will not hurt you and will help the pain more than the suboxone. HOWEVER after you are on an opiate pain medication, taking large amounts of or IV'ing Suboxone (due to the naloxone) will put you in acute withdrawl. First hand experience, I have done this more than once!

If your serious about your program then why even mess with any other pill if your truely wanting to get off opeates, your setting yourself up for relaps!

i am on suboxone 8mg/2mg strips i only need 1 a day but i have bad knee pain and the suboxone does nothing for any pain little or big...i just took half of a 10mg norco to see if it will help and hope i dont get sick ib profin/advil/tylenol are not working :(

hey sparkles, i would not recommend taking norco while on suboxone, if you are taking it for opiate dependence you can relapse, and either way you will not feel any relief since suboxone is a blocker.. i am not on suboxone, but i do work in a substance abuse clinic where most of our patients use sbxn for maintenance until they are ready to kick the dependence. i have had patients that have been on sbxn for weeks and they take a painkiller just to see what it does, and they relapse. you should make an appt to your doc's office and ask them if they can give you a toradol (katorolac) shot, or a trigger point if the pain is really bad instead of experimenting with opiates again. i have three protruding disc in my lower cervical spine and two herniated discs in my lumbar spine (i know pain to :( ) toradol shots help ease the pain a bit, but i push through it 9-7 mon-fri... i stay away from pain killers because i have seen the damage they can do to people.i wish you the best of luck!!

Dude I strongly disagree. I have 2 herniated disks and am on 8mg of suboxone a day. And its a miracle pain reliever. Its sn opiat k guy?? Stop giving false info. Thats ridiculous.. ur so wrong u shouldn't be on here..

All you people that say suboxone isnt a pain reliever are hilariously wrong.. I have severe back issues 3 herniated disks, ankylosing spolylolisis and another bulged disk and an 8mg pill a day definitely keeps the pain away. Its still an opiate...

It's not a surgery but in fact a drug called ibogaine. It's a one time treatment and you will trip for several hours. Contact Ibogaine University in Rosarito, Mexico. Google ibogaine

Submoxone sucks. It is a money pit. Do your research, if they want you on it any longer then a month then its a scam and they don't care about you. If your a male and in a sub program, ask them if they also do a blood test for testorone. You will have none after being on opiates. Try using the sub to get thru withdrawles only and stop. In the name of God, do not take it long. It is worse then the crappy 3 days of withdrawles. A week of withdrawles is better then months.

Hi, someone PLEASE help, I have been on 16 mg of Suboxone (Subutex) per day for 3 years. Before that, I was on Norco for 4 years from a bad car accident and 4 badly herniated discs. I never felt addicted to Norco, but I wanted off of them because they weren't helping my pain and I was TERRIFIED of whatwithdrawals would feel like, so the dr put me on subs and I easily & happily got off Norco and had no WD's! Now my back is much worse and I have a GREAT new pain Dr who is a Spine Surgeon. *Here's my question,my new Dr says I should have never been put on Subs and knowing that I want off of the subs but am TERRIFIED of sub wd's, he says for me to stop taking the suboxone today and prescribed me 10/325 mg Norco (1 tablet every 4 hours and 30mg Morphine er twice per day. He promised these medications will keep me from suffering any Suboxone WD's:-) Any help, comments, personal experience with this will be GREATLY APPRECIATED, SOMEONE PLEASE HELP. Does it really work? Also, once comfortably off subs, I will be having epidurals and non narcotic pain meds, I'M SO SCARED OF WITHDRAWALS, WILL THE NORCOS AND MORPHINE REALLY KEEP WD's AWAY? THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS

I have been addicted to vicodin for 4 years. I had 2 8 mg sub strips and took them over a 5 day period and i had no withdrawel symptoms at all. I believe suboxone is a life saver but dont understand why people are on it for years.

I think if u go back on norcos you will just be trading one addiction for another. If you can take them as prescribed u might be ok. I on the other habd couldnt and my addiction spiraled out of control. I tried quiytinf but the withdrawels were unbearable worst pain and feeling ever. Taking the subs for 5 days was a lifesaver and ive been clean and will never go down that road with pills again. Good luck to u

Will someone please respond to my post because I'm really scared to do this...Will the Norcos and Morphine ER 30mg twice p/day really keep me from having Sub withdrawals?PLEASE read my first post from Feb14,2014, I'm very grateful for any of your experiences and how you felt when you switched from Subutex to Norco to avoid Sub wd's. Thanks:-)

I think you will just be trading one addiction for another as i replied in my previous post. Cause then you will have withdraws from the morphine so you are not getting ahead doing this

Thanks for your response, THANKFULLY, I'm not worried about trading one addicting for the other, my only HUGE fear is, "Will the Morphine er and the Norcos really keep me from having any sub wd's?

Hi Kelly, thank you so much for replying to my post. My Dr told me to wait 48 hours from my last 8mg Subutex dose this morning and then start taking my Morphine er and my Norco. Do you or anyone else on here have any experience with this? What type of wd's will I have at 48 hours? And, how soon after starting the Morphine er and Norco will my wd's go away? My Dr says my wd's will stop as soon as I start taking my Morphine and Norcos. What do you think? Anxiously waiting for your Reply, Thanks Kelly!!

I personally think that everyone experiences wd symptoms differently. I was told by my sub doc that it depends on how your body metabolizes the drug. After 48 hours without taking any subs, you would probably be feeling pretty s***ty. I have been on subs for about two years, currently taking 8 mg daily. They started me on 24 mg daily. While taking subs, I have had a TON of dental work done. So what I did was the day before my procedure, I wouldn't take anything, then by the time I would get to my appointment the next day, if be feeling ok, but just a little off... Then after the dental work they'd prescribe Vicodin and although the Vicodin wouldn't work as well as it would before I was in subs for the first day or two, by the third day, I would feel the full effect of the Vicodin.. Also I was thinking maybe you oils have your doc prescribe you like 3 days worth of subutex, this way you don't get the naloxone for a couple days and that's out of your system and you could start with the morphine and norco without having to feel any wd's.. It's the naloxone that blocks the opiates.. Suboxone suck. But it's literally saved my life

I replied to your message TerrifiedBlondie, but it told me my message needed to be reviewed before posting for some reason.. If it doesn't post soon, I will re-write you. I know how it feels to be scared like you are.
