Crazy On Neurotin

Updated

I have been on high doses of Neurotin for years after reading on another site that it helps greatly with opiate withdrawals. I take extremely high doses of Oxycodone and found when/if I ran out, I thought I was actually going to die. I have recently stopped taking Neurotin because the last three times I took it I actually didn't know my own name, was extremely abusive/harmful to my family and couldn't remember my actions regardless of how badly I had hurt someone!!! When I reported these actions to my GP and Pain Mgmt. Doctors, they both said they had NEVER heard of ANYONE having those kinds of side effects!!! This was very irritating because it says in the list of side effects to stop taking it if your personality changes. It got so bad I broke my husbands arm!!! Please, if anyone that reads this has experienced these types of problems I would appreciate a reply. Thank you!!!

Yes, those types of reactions are highly possible, especially at very high doses.

Neurontin is actually classified by the FDA as an anticonvulsant that can also help with certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders, so it does act on brain chemicals.

Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, weight gain and mood swings.

How high of a dose did you take?

Starting out, I would take three 600mg tablets and then, to be honest, I don't know how many I would take. I'm guessing probably 2-3 more 600mg every 4-6 hours. I have been prescribed to take as much as 3200mg per day, although since these episodes I haven't taken any. It's a shame too because it helps with my Lupus & RA pain but the price is just too high. I can't believe on one else has had this type reaction. If you are knowledgable about this type of reaction and this drug, please offer advice. I have been sick for 16 years and have taken many, many drugs but none of which that had this type effect. Thank you for your time.

I'm just curious....Do you work for this site or are you a medical professional??? I see your replies all over this site yet you rarely seem to reply to anyone who replies to you.

Again, just curious.
