What Is The Best Generic Version Of Wellbutrin Xl - Watson Or Anchen? (Page 73) (Top voted first)

Updated

My doctor will not prescribe generic Wellbutrin XL but my insurance will no longer pay for brand name drugs. I will have to pay about $7000 per yer for what I am taking now (3 of the 150mg Wellbutrin XL brand name per day). I am reading that the problem with the generics is the time release mechanism and not the drug itself and that some are better than others. Anybody have experience with the generics made by Watson and /or Anchen?

I take the generic called Bupropion HCL XL. I've never taken the name brand, but I've had good results with this generic. Hope this helps! May want to consider changing doctors for this medication.

Jemi, you're joking right?.. Is that question even possible at this day and time? Do a little research, just on this page and you'll find your answer in a minute or less, jeez....

Sis, I have done nothing but help people on this topic with my posts and hopefully help save countless people tons of money by directing them exactly where to get brand for $50 max.. At this point in time anyone would just have to glimpse not even ten posts or less and find almost every answer to any question. They are lazy and if they're so close to putting a bullet in their head I think they could research not even ten prior posts. Maybe you need to look for yourself too. Your incoherent post to me just shows you haven't read a thing either. Do your dd before you tell me to shut up.. You and the other question just frustrate people. No one wants to hear the same exact question over and over again it gets old quick! Do everyone a favor, shut your mouth and try to read one page, you may surprise yourself with the amount of information at your fingertips in less than a minute or the time it took you to write your snide comment keyboard tough guy.

Kathy- I wanted to tell you that my son's MAP test scores for this fall were outstanding. ... so much so the IEP teacher asked when he was placed on medication (since she was not involved at all last yr since she is new to this school)... Both her and my son's teacher do not believe he needs to be on a IEP anymore,. His test scores were: Math (national avg 202, him 212, top score was 215), Reading: again 212, national avg 208, top 214. His behavior has been very good- no calls at all this year!! When he raises his hand to be involved it is pertinent to the topic. Teacher & IEP are going to target him for Challengers class. Amazing how one medication can make all the difference in the world. For my son that was vyvanse.

"The FDA literally never paid mind to this subject until several years ago TEVA released a notoriously bad version of the generic called Budeprion."

The FDA forgot to tell this to the thousands of people, including myself, for which TEVA Budeprion duplicated the effects of brand Wellbutrin. If I had known in advance that TEVA Budeprion wasn't supposed to work for me, I never would have taken it. Unfortunately, I wasted two years taking it because it worked for me but it wasn't supposed to.

I take brand name wellbutrin xl 300 mg. Generic wellbutrin is not real wellbutrin. We know this because teva was cheating consumers by not putting the right ingredients in. Teva eventually recalled its budeperion form of bupropion. I have lost 40 lbs. On brand name wellbutrin in just 6 months. This is the miracle weight loss drug that we've all needed.

Major side effect: hair loss because since you are no longer eating much food, you aren't getting enough nutrients. In return, your hair suffers.

Teva pulled its version of wellbutrin after hundreds of consumers got involved with the people's pharmacy organization, which ultimately led to a successful lobbying of the fda to review teva's inferior offering.

Cathy has no idea what she is talking about. She offers that generic bupropion is better for some people than brand. At most, that is a placebo. It would never be clinically proven. The fact that I have to state the obvious, is pretty sad.

Thanks for responding. I really wish someone that is actually taking the generic would respond. My doctor still doesn't want to prescribe the generic and if she won't prescribe it, I can't try it. This is very frustrating since I thought I was going to be able to get help from the drug manufacturer, but they discontinued the patient assistance program.

I am on a lot of medications and can't afford the brand name in some of themm.but the best generic in any and all of my meds is Watson.. the generics are not required by law to put as high a percent of the active ingredient in a medication as the name brand.. that's why some are better than others.

It doesn't serve your argument to start with a complete falsehood. The Affordable Care Act lowered the rate of uninsured from 18% to 11%, so the legislation clearly lives up to its name for at least 7% of the population. Also, your idea of throwing out health insurance altogether is completely insane. The whole idea of group insurance is to spread catastrophic risk across a wide base. For instance, a member of my family developed a rare blood disorder which required medications worth $200K over 2 years. The government in my home country covered that cost as part of her tax levy. In America, she would probably have been bankrupted.

I also think it's idiotic for economic libertarians to keep worshipping the "free market" as if it is a kind of magic solution to everything. As has been proven about a billion times in the real world, unregulated markets rarely reach a nice equilibrium that satisfies public interest. You only get satisfactory and just outcomes when power is roughly matched between the agents of supply and demand. That rarely happens, and even less so in the winner-takes-all economy of America.

That gets into what is wrong with US healthcare compared to almost every other country: the power is largely skewed away from the consumer, and the real costs of care are disguised to them. That's why every pharma company has skyrocketed the cost of many of their drugs. When you are the only drug in your category, you have an effective monopoly, which allows you to fleece the insurers.

Fixing this is really hard. Having hospital systems take over insurance networks could work, but again, only as long as regional monopolies did not form. The rest of the world has wisely avoided this dilemma by making the government the major player in the health market.

I actually gave you a quality reply that stood outside the usual left-right talking points that Americans tend to trade in. You on the other hand have outed yourself as a Fox News viewer as soon as you mentioned "socialism".

Public health is always a matter of socialising risk, no matter how you achieve that. If any mention of "social" or "socialised" gets you worked up, then you aren't up to the task of thinking clearly about the topic.

I am DEEPLY unimpressed to know that you worked as an executive for a company. So what? You worked as a functionary, a technician, a corporate rat in a maze. You played within the rules, and even now, you still can't step back from the game.

I continue to ignore your food analogy because it's silly and hyperbolic. Look, I know that the ACA is a highly imperfect attempt at healthcare reform. I'm also a strong critic of the way US health insurance insulates consumers from cost consequences. That's the first place I'd be looking to reform. Right now, the US spends 2.7X the OECD average on healthcare, yet it generates below-average outcomes. Even a free marketeer like yourself has got to want a mechanism that competes down health costs.

I've taken the generic. I don't understand why you think these drugs are better or worse than each other. They have universal standards of quality. If that is the issue I can't help you other than say stay away from fly by night on-line pharmacies. Now the first way wellbutrin was manufactured it was not an xl. Instead of taking one (3 tabs or whatever) a day as most people do now-- It was much faster acting in that you can really feel the uplift or stimulus like a strong cup of coffee and you'd have to take it 4 times a day. I complained to my prescriber that I'm up and down all day. Thankfully they have the long acting now and I don't know of any circumstances where you would need the short acting pills. If your MD is thinking of that, it makes sense she doesn't want you to have it. I don't know the availability of any short acting wellbutrin but generic may very well be from past stock before longer acting was available. Do not pay $7,000 for that medication. Search new providers, call pharmacies around the country and world. Call the maker and ask for assistance if it gets down to that. There are many legal ways to get life saving medications without becoming a pauper. Good Luck.

NotWellbutrin, you're about a month late on the petty bickering comment. People have moved past it and carried on with discussion as normal. Stop trying to start small arguments.

Dear MM: In America you either choose to sink or swim! Those at the bottom "CHOOSE" to be there.
Why should those who "work hard" pay for those who simply depend on Govt. handouts?
There is no Freedom or Success in life when you depend on the Government.
That is what is great about America! You have a choice!
Socialism has not worked and will never work, it is a one way ticket to Hell!
Nobama Care will never be implemented, because true Americans WILL Stop it in it's tracks this November.

I'm done responding to this thread. JJ- Valeant is a Canadian company. Brand name Wellbutrin is made in Canada. Good luck trying to get a $1600 bottle for free or discounted. Perhaps you should get better health insurance. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the people complaining about generics actually voted for Trump. He'll fix your healthcare issues alright!! JJ- you tried correcting someone about Teva's Budeprion. You're def not an authority, and you should probably just stop trying to spread misinformation. If you're so confused, go talk to your pharmacist. I really don't care to read your wall of text. Like seriously, get a grip.

For all others: Generic Wellburtin sucks and it's not even real! So, either get on the real stuff, or find another AD.

Do not take Wellbutrin. It promotes suicidal thought.
