What Is The Best Generic Version Of Wellbutrin Xl - Watson Or Anchen? (Page 32)

Updated

My doctor will not prescribe generic Wellbutrin XL but my insurance will no longer pay for brand name drugs. I will have to pay about $7000 per yer for what I am taking now (3 of the 150mg Wellbutrin XL brand name per day). I am reading that the problem with the generics is the time release mechanism and not the drug itself and that some are better than others. Anybody have experience with the generics made by Watson and /or Anchen?

Direct Success Pharmacy doest not take medicare so it will cost $50 per month. As far as medical insurance I do believe they work with some companies and it may be covered to some extent, call and ask them. They always pick the phone right up and are extremely friendly and helpful.

I took the last 8 generic wellbutrin 150 XL pills made by Par Pharm [they are white, small and read A101] from a bottle my husband stopped taking, and I felt amazing....I suppose that's what people call "the honeymoon." Well, since I'd read that "the Brand" was so much better, I had my doctor prescribe me that instead, and it was awful!! Only 2 hours after taking Wellbutrin Brand 150 XL [from Canada], my hands became inflamed with joint pain and I could barely make a fist. Hours later, I felt so anxious I started crying over my son's school field trip, and then several hours after that, I was so agitated, I became angry over everyday things. Clearly, Brand was too strong for me, so I never took another pill, returned the bottle to the pharmacy for a refund and got a prescription for generic Wellbutrin 75 mg instant release. I can't remember the maker but it was a round, much larger peach pill. Three days on this, and all I was was sleepy. SO, THEN, I went back to my doctor, asked for generic 150 XL by Par Pharm. Started taking it again, and felt better, though not amazing like that first week. Well, my husband started taking mine [so it ran out fast] as he waited for his to arrive in the mail. Our insurance upped the price of my husband's generic Par 150 XL from $7 to $27 and told him that if he signs up for an order by mail instead, he can get 3 months worth for cheaper. This actually made him stop his medication for a time, and it took forever to finally come in the mail. Anyway, it arrived and it's DIFFERENT!! This new order by mail generic version is made by MYLAN and the pill reads "MB6." Two days on this, and I just feel pissed all day...angry...not happy. So, I'm going to get my prescription refilled Par Pharm 150 XL generic...which has so far worked the best for me. I would say I am not someone who needs a high dose, nor do I suffer from severe depression, but after several truly painful years of loss and regret, the Par Pharm generic version just helped me to move forward and enjoy life a little bit more. When you experience that feeling, it's hard to revert back into a slump. That a company would just take away what has worked for you, and switch you to something that could change your life for the worse, it's almost unconscionable. Also, everyone has such different experiences based on their need and body chemistry, I'd just say when you find something that works, stick with it. If it doesn't work or causes pain, get off it, and continue looking. I've also heard wonders about 5htp and St. John's Wort used together.

I also can only take the TEVA brand. No one has bothered to tell me that they aren't making it anymore. My local walgreens carries Myan brand and my husband and I both get very angry, irritable, and impatient on the Milan brand.

I just bought Canadian-stock WXL 150. It comes in a Valeant bottle with purple and lime green markings and the pills are white with a purple WXL 150 print. When I ordered WXL 300 in the past, the bottle was labeled Biovail, with orange on it, and the pills are white and larger with the WXL 300 print, in black lettering.

Does anyone know the reason for the discrepancy? I thought Biovail and Valeant were the same? Has anyone else gotten these same 150 XL pills from Valeant in Canada, and what was the experience like?

Excuse the French but why the he!! is anyone buying the Canadian stuff when it is straight from Valeant for less? I'm not sure anyone has bothered to look but some of the "Canadian" stuff is made in Turkey and direct shipped from there or routed through Canada to American consumers. Look closely and you'll find people who don't like the Turkish version. I looked into getting Canada, Canada Valeant Wellbutrin and it was the same price or more than what I could get through Valeant's program. Order what you want from Canada but as for me, the chances of getting the Euro/Turkey stuff (possibly even counterfeit) isn't worth the chance.

I filled my prescription three months ago. I take the xl Wellbutrin 300. The pharmacist gave me the generic version. I had never had it before. I questioned it at the time and she insisted I take it saying it was the same thing. I just had a refill and was given the name brand. When I went to my doctor for the refill prescription I was worried about why I have been so down felt like I was back to square one. I never put the two together until now. I have been crying almost everyday it's been horrible I figured I was getting even more depressed or the pills weren't working anymore. I now realize it was the change of pills. It's too much of a Coincidence that I started feeling low for about two months. I spoke with the pharmacist and asked him if it was possible he said definitely. I will be telling my doctor to put "no substitutions" on my future prescriptions. Sad news is that at my last appointment my doctor and I were talking about coming off the pills cause I was feeling so great. This proved that that won't be happening. :(

I just reordered Wellbutrin XL 150mg from the Direct Success Pharmacy. There were no issues whatsoever. It still only cost $150 for 3 months of meds. I actually felt comfortable enough to enroll in their automatic refill program. If the brand is what works for you, I encourage you to try Direct Success. What a lifesaver!!

Mine are brand from Valeant in New Jersey. Small white tablet says Wellbutrin 150 XL in black. Label on bottle looks deep blue to me (I guess it could also look purple), with an orange stripe and then a yellow box at the bottom:"Federal Law requires dispensing of WELLBUTRIN XL (registered trademark logo) with the Medication Guide under the label."

I got these through Direct Success pharmacy online.

I have been taking name brand Wellbutrin 150 XL for little over three months. At first the only side effect I noticed was very dry mouth when falling asleep and dry eyes (I already had dry eyes because of Lasik surgery, so even dryer) but I didn't consider this major and it has subsided somewhat. I use eyedrops anyway. However, I find that I am less able to deal with any kind of stress. What would make me stew and feel low before now makes me tearful- outbursty, I feel edgy and irritable, and also a bit of detachment (as in, a friend pissed me off, now I'm done with that person. Forever. And no feelings of waffling around or blaming myself as I would have in the past, like if someone is b****y to me maybe it's my fault for somehow not pleasing that person enough. No. It's cut the cord. Done. No regret.) I haven't noticed much positive effect except maybe that I am not sinking AS low as before. I had to make the decision to either wean off or increase the dose to 300 XL which I am seeing is the recommended dose, and see if I can ever get to that place people describe as "happy" and to be more productive. More than just wanting to stay in bed all the time. Maybe get through my daily duties not feeling like I am dragging weights behind me. So my doctor approved increasing the dose and I'm going to try it. It's either going to make me so edgy and irritable that I can't stand myself, or hopefully lift me high enough to make a difference. I am interested in everyone's experience because it gives me something to compare my own against. Here's hoping the increased dosage will help!

I purchased brand from my drugstore then the next month went through direct pharmacy. The bottles and pills are identical in every way. I can say without hesitation that there is no doubt that they are genuine brand pills 100%, don't give it a second thought.

K, actually it is not less through Valeant's program it is more. From Valeant in the US you are paying $50/month whereas the Canadian-made WXL also from Valeant I paid closer to $30/month- including shipping.

I don't fully understand your situation from the way you describe it. Are you saying you never took any Wellbutrin previously and now you're worse off after taking it then before taking it?

Personally after hearing all I have about buying from Canada I'll sacrifice the extra $20 and not worry that some med from who knows where shows up in lieu of what I'm expecting. If you're good with going via the North more power to you but I doubt they get it to you in two days and furthermore I know without a doubt what I'm going to receive when I buy from them in the U.S......

Then do please tell where you are getting it cheaper. Everything I found in that price range was ordered through a Canadian pharmacy but was actually coming from GSK in Turkey.

I appreciate this update. I currently use Mylan from my local Walgreens. I have experience some improvement with an ability to remain "in the present", better focus, and ruminating much less. I just feel better and that makes me a better parent and desire to be more social. I think I could be doing better and have heard many great things about Valent who, as I understand it, has the formula Glaxosmithkline had. I'm trying to get ahold of my Dr. right now.

Hi Darla. I have been taking Wellbutrin 300mg/day (either 150SR or 300XL) for many years and it definitely works for me. I work for the innovator company and get the brand for free, so I don't know personnaly how the generic works. I weaned off of Wellbutrin once and felt and acted terrible. Medications have different affects on different people, so Wellbutrin might not be right for you. Wellbutrin is a non-tricylic antidepressant and is fundamentally different from SSRIs, which most antidepressants are. If 300mg/day does not work for you, then ask your doctor about either adding an SSRI (you can take both drugs together) or switching to just an SSRI. Good luck!

I get the Mylan brand from Walgreens in Glastonbury, CT. Using their prescription plan if I purchase the 75 mg (no XL or SR) I take 2 in the AM and 2 in the PM for a total of 300 mg , it ran me $39.98 a month. Now I just use their mail order and still get the Mylan brand. That may be an option. Yesterday, I just found out about the Direct Success Pharmacy plan and am trying to get a script to try them out. I really want to experience the brand to have a comparison. if I don't experience additional improvement, I know that the Mylan does perform for me, I'll change back and save the extra $10 a month.

Thank you! I received my 300XL today and will take my first one tomorrow. I found out on the internet just last night that some of the side effects I have been assuming were from the Wellbutrin may well be from Armour Thyroid that I have been ramping up. It can cause profuse sweating and itching as well as irritibility. So I will be backing off of that. Thank you for your reply!

Were you taking the XL 300 version of Mylan Bupropion? I just started taking this today and haven't been able to find any reviews on the Mylan bupropion xl 300 mg. I read that some generics brands were no good.

I could only take budeprion SR Teva brand and last month the pharmacy told me Teva doesn't make it anymore. I am taking Sandoz but my heartrate has gone up, as has my blood pressure. I can get the brand name but I have to pay my cost of the drug through my insurance ($30) plus an $85 "penalty" fee. Really frustrated!
