Watson Is Now Actavis Generic Percocet 5/325 What Is Up With This (Page 5)

Updated

I had been taking 5/325 generic Watson percocet for 4 years. Suddenly I get notified by Walgreens which I have insurance that there is no more Watson brand and I was given generic percocet 5/325 by Actavis. It is not the same at all. It has no pain relief for me. I used to break the watsons in half sometimes and never had a funny taste. I just broke one of the actavis white tablets in half and it immediately tasted like salt or alka seltzer? Has anyone had any issues with this drug too. Also, along with it not working right it has made my GI tract and stomach so ill feeling and cramping. This is not right how can they take away a medicine that someone has been on for 4 years without any problems and tell them to suddenly switch. Would a peson who has been on a certain heart medication for years be told to suddenly switch that he can't get that medicine anymore? I don't think so. I don't know what I am going to do but when it comes time to have my rx re-filled it will not be with Actavis and I will have to pharmacy shop I guess to see if I can find Watson. I am very depressed now and so unhappy I can't believe it.

Hi Martin,

Yes, that Gabapentin was terrible. I finally contacted the pain clinic today, to let the doctor know it didn't work. I am going to call to request my refill tomorrow, as it is something I have to pick up from the doctors office. sometimes it takes the doctor a few days to get to it, and I'm trying to get ahead of things. I usually put the script in to the pharmacy the day before, so that it will be ready. I'm trying to keep busy, but without the proper pain medication, your life can be put on hold. I'm about to attempt to make a flower, to help take my mind off of things. I hope everyone who is in pain can find a little piece today. I will check back tomorrow. Try to get some rest tonight all. By the by, I sent Walgreen's an e-mail as well, no response yet though.

I just wanted to post this number again. Since they did return the call, someone must be listening. With a view to results, remains to be seen. But here is the number again. (Actavis U.S. Customer Relations): +1 (800) 272-5525

Who has this brand the Malikiest or whatever people are talking about? Is it a known pharmacy place like what does CVS have or kroger has anyone called those places?

I am prescribed 10-325s. I filled my prescription yesterday at Walgreens and found that they were not Watson's once I arrived home. I wasn't notified of the switch and am having the same complaints and symptoms. I am very disgruntled. Can they be exchanged? I feel like I was duped...

Greg,

No, they can't be exchanged. I asked. becasue they are a Controlled II. Thats the excuse Walgreens hides behind. They should have told us. I asked why and they didnt have a good answer. What has been your experience with the Actavis pills? I have 6 more days of this crap. Anyone who fills in the next few days, please let us know the results of the new meds. Thanks

Hi Cole,

I copied this information for you. I hope it helps. This is the brand I'm going to use next time. I did call CVS, and I think they have Actavis as well. I know for sure it wasn't Watson brand.
"'Today's Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals combines more than 146 years of expertise with the determined focus needed to solve the complex specialty pharmaceutical challenges of today. Whether it's the production of medicines for pain and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, the development of products that treat central nervous system conditions or quality imaging products, we are working to make complex products simpler, safer and better for patients."

They've been around a long time, unlike Actavis (formerly Watson) so I hope they have it right by now! I feel like I'm gambling. It's unfortunate that we have to wait, and hope medicines work as intended.

I've heard kroger mentioned a few times in this thread. We don't have that in California, at least not where I live. I'm sure there are pharmacies I didn't check yet. I'm going to do a general search, of pharmacies in the area today. But If I don't find any old Watson brand left, I"m going with mallinckrodt. They have been in business for over a 100 years, so Hopefully they are doing something right.

I've decided, that I would like to try the mallinckrodt brand. Even If a pharmacy still has some Watson brand left, the company has changed to Actavis, so it won't last. So I figured I might as well find something, that I can deal with long term.

Jan,

I called Actavis and got right thru. They transferred me to the "side effects" department. I advised of my side effects. They seemed more concerned that i wasnt going to sue them for heart attack than anything. They said they will make a report with the FDA. I asked what AM I supposed to do? they said see your doctor and try a different manufactuer. gee thanks i would have never thought of that! they just raised my blood pressure even more. Grrrrrrrrrr

Hi Lola,

I'm just seeing the information about "Qualitest" I'm glad I decided to go with
mallinckrodt. Did your friend say if he's tried that brand? So far I've only heard good things about it. I hope it works. Safeway claims, they have used it for years with no complaints. I guess I'll find out in 4 days. I hope your depression is better today.

Hi Martin,

Just now seeing your post. Wow, real concern on their part huh? Well, they will care when they are stuck with truck loads of this useless junk! Have you decided what you are going to try next time? I think you said brand name. My pharmacist claims, it costs $700.00. Too steep for me right now. I am disabled.

Hi Jan, what about roxicet have you tried to find that? I am having trouble finding that one and have called a few pharmacies but they only have Mallincrofdt or Amneal. I have heard Amneal is just like Actavis so I would definitely stay away from that one. I thought I read somewhere that Target had roxicet but when I called they said they had mallincrofdt. I am so afraid of getting another month's worth of crap. Then I might as well just go off percocet for good.

Hi Lola,

No I have not tried that one yet. I thought about the pharmacies at the clinics ect. You know, like Sutter health, Kaiser, U.C.D. and others. I called U.C.D. pharmacy today, and they told me they have the mallinckrodt brand. That kind of sealed it for me, because I think hospital pharmacies, would be wary of giving patients medications that don't work. My doctor said, my scrpt is waiting for me to pick up from will call on Friday. The sports medicine doctor, wants me to get another MRI, so that I can start getting the spinal epidurals again. Have you made a choice about which medicine you will choose? I am so thankful to you for starting this discussion, because without it I would have been lost. I hope the one you choose, brings you pain relief and chases the depression and withdrawal symptoms away. Don't forget to let us know what worked for you.

We don't have Publix here but we do have targets but I didn't know that target had pharmaciesI guess I never paid attention. I was going to call kroger. I know some mom and pop pharmacies have some small round orange pills idk what the manufacturer is I think endocet they were a friend of ours they said they were garbage too! I saw someone say they thought about getting off percocet all together, my fiance said if the pain and withdrawals weren't so bad he would. And upgrading is to strong and makes him sick. It's just crazy did actavis which took over watsons say why they changed them if they took over why did they have to change???? And I do know my fiance said the withdrawals aren't as bad with these actavis things which I saw someone say before maybe that's why they changed because they realized how addictive those specific ones were. I still can't believe after 12+ yrs at least watsons are gone and how much they helped people with their pain and now so many people are having problems and nothing is being done. I know watsons have been gone since December where I live! For awhile some pharmacies had nothing no 10-325 or 7.5-325 it was crazy! I just hope everyone can finally get their pain back under control. I just wish I understood why this happened and why Watson sold themselves or whatever.

I had about a 3 page post that was saved but said it had to be reviewed first before it was posted. I was asking why watsons got changed when they were changed to actavis. And that there is a different pull out there that some.mom and pop stores have that I believe is endocet my friend said they are garbage I'm just very confused why all of this happened and why so many people's pain is out of control and nothing is being done. I do know from what my fiance is saying and other friends and my line of work these are these I guess addictive or the withdrawals or urge to take one isn't as bad?? And maybe that's why they got rid of watsons. But I'm not sure why watsons stopped production and when actavis took over they didn't just keep them the same. If you see two similar posts I apologize because like I said it said it was being reviewed before it would be posted and others usually say saved. I will have to call around from him because like said below walgreens and cvs are the same but at one point pharmacies didn't have anything to give people in December and January at least cvs and walgreens didn't anyways. Good luck everyone. Like below said quitting percocet would be ideal if not so hard I guess and my fiance said upgraded to stronger is too much for him so he is stuck but it takes more of these he says to get out of pain.

Hi Cole,

Yes, some of my post's have been reviewed as well. I think there are certain trigger words, that cause your post to be reviewed. So far, mine were still posted. There are 5 pages of discussion here now, so sometimes you have to search through them for specific information. This discussion has really taken off, thanks to Lola. Even though I pick up my prescription tomorrow, I can't get if filled until the 17th. I have counted out my pills, to make sure they will last so I'm sure I will make it until Monday morning. I don't know why "Actavis" changed from "Watson" but they are supposed to be sending me some information in the mail. I have listed their number here twice, so maybe someone could ask them. I just hope this mallinckrodt works for all who are going to try that one. I have had "endocet" and I didn't like it. Well, I have a big red spot on the white part of my eye, so I'm going to call the eye doctor before it's too late. Talk to everyone later.

Hello. I just want to tell everyone I have been on Watson 10/325 for years and in December Walgreens had a shortage so I had to go somewhere else. I was given Mallinckrodt brand and I had complete pain relief. They were so much better then watson for me. If this helps anyone. I also noticed I could go longer in between doses because it worked so good. I had no side effects and I was fine with the switch.

Thank you so much Lisa, I plan to try that brand starting Monday. I had the impression from all I've heard, that it works pretty well. When I try it I will let everyone know the results.
