Watson Is Now Actavis Generic Percocet 5/325 What Is Up With This (Page 4)

Updated

I had been taking 5/325 generic Watson percocet for 4 years. Suddenly I get notified by Walgreens which I have insurance that there is no more Watson brand and I was given generic percocet 5/325 by Actavis. It is not the same at all. It has no pain relief for me. I used to break the watsons in half sometimes and never had a funny taste. I just broke one of the actavis white tablets in half and it immediately tasted like salt or alka seltzer? Has anyone had any issues with this drug too. Also, along with it not working right it has made my GI tract and stomach so ill feeling and cramping. This is not right how can they take away a medicine that someone has been on for 4 years without any problems and tell them to suddenly switch. Would a peson who has been on a certain heart medication for years be told to suddenly switch that he can't get that medicine anymore? I don't think so. I don't know what I am going to do but when it comes time to have my rx re-filled it will not be with Actavis and I will have to pharmacy shop I guess to see if I can find Watson. I am very depressed now and so unhappy I can't believe it.

Hello I was reading all the comments and my fiance is in the same boat Watson is no longer available and he has chronic kidney stones has for 13 years the Watsons worked wonders for him. Now walgreens has some crap pill. They don't work they make him extremely tired and he has almost had to go to the hospital twice but they just give him dilaudid and that makes him sleep for like 2 days. What happened with the Watsons??? Even before they were taken off the shelves. I people complained how different generics had different effects on them, it's crazy considering it's the same strength?? Why is this happening like you all his pain was under control now they want him seeing a pain specialist but the roxicet is too strong for him makes him sick and if Watsons are gone seems he will get no relief. I knew the 5/325mg and 7.5/325mg was different I didn't know the 10/325 was gone as well. I hope you have found some relief I want to help.

Hi Cole,

I think we should complain to the pharmacies. Complaining to Actavis isn't doing much good at this point. Walgreen's said, they aren't getting complaints so they think all is well. I'm going to call them tomorrow to complain again.

Well what walreens is saying and what is happening is two different things I know several people upset about the change the line of work I'm in people complain a lot. What about FDA forum?? People are probably afraid to complain to pharmacies because they may seem like drug seekers that's what people automatically think it's a cruel crazy world.

Hi Cole,

I just spoke to Walgreen's here in Sacramento. They still say, that there hasn't been any complaints. The pharmacist, said that people will probably get used to it, like they did when the yellow Norco, was changed to white. She also said it would be fine, because they have no other choices. I let her know, that Rite aid has the "Qualitest" brand, and that I will not be getting that Actavis next time. She sounded really surprised. I could tell be the tone of her voice, that this is really being taken lightly. I am going to check a few more pharmacies today, to see if there is any "Watson" brand left out there.

Hi guys...im so glad I came across this thread...I too would use w algreens just because they used watson for their percocet 10/325 and they were the only ones that would work for me..I've used the same pharmacy/location like clockwork...they knew exactly who I was when I pick up my meds every month...a week ago I go pick email up and pull out of the drive thru n check my bag only to notice they were a different generic...ACTAVIS! I went back around to the window n asked what happened n told them I can't use anything other than watson n they told me thats what theyre using now n they can't take email back...what nerve not to tell their patients before taking possession of them. I told the pharmacist they dont work n he replied,"they should...no reason not to, theyre still percocet". How does he not know there are differences? I am soooo mad! These are not working n making me so tired n sluggish I can't stand it! If someone tries another pharmacy generic and find it works, please send me a reply letting me know...PRERELEASE! Thank you guys!

Hi Jennifer,

Yes, that happened to me before as well. Once you take the medication from the pharmacy, you're stuck! It happened to me with Endocet, and I ended up having to pay for another prescription, and my insurance had paid for the first one. I was really irritated. I hate that they don't tell you about the changes. I plan on getting the Qualitest brand next time. I do plan to see what Costco has, but the problem with that is our membership has expired. We do plan on renewing, but not until April. I'm trying to keep busy, but that's really hard when you;re in pain, as I'm sure everyone knows. These really do make you tired and sluggish, as you said. There's a link to the FDA, that someone on this thread posted. So far I have not heard from Actavis. I tried calling and emailing. They will care when no one wants these pills that don't work!

Just an update. I have heard a few more positive reviews about the Qualitest brand. I guess I'll give it a try. I will let everyone know how it goes. I will refill on the 17th of this month.

Hello all,

Wow, much going on. Don't know where to start. I will say I go to Walgreens also and they didnt tell me. As far as complaing to pharmacies, dont think they really care. Whoever says there not getting compaints, they are lying. If people dont notice a difference, then maybe their not in that bad of pain. Saturday night I slept 18 hours on this crap. Last nite I slept two. Now I'm at work after two hours sleep. Grrrrr. None of the paharcies carry Watson anymore.
Jan-I do wonder if they are trying to make this drug weaker so people will go off it or give up. Right now it keeps me my job and insurance and able to work. My Rx is due on 3-18 and see the doc that day. I guess I'll try for Roxicet or Brand Perc. Walgreens is the only pharmacy in my area that carrys any of these products. Rite Aid doesnt carry it at all.

Sorry for the typos...*when my post says "email", I meant to say "them"..darn auto correct....I actually found this pharmacist that worked at my Walgreens but transfered to a different location...he s so cool n easy to talk to u would never think he was a pharmacist...I told him what's goin on n what could I do n he told me to call 800-walgreens n complain. He also told me he has received a few complaints. He also told me to try Kroger supermarket and see if they carry Watson ....I called one in another town that was open 24 hrs since it was at night n they told me they did use Watson but have whatever brand now....she said she didn't know if all kroger pharmacies have this other brand as well so im gonna call around when it gets closer to my refill day. I read on another blog that this qualitest is no comparison to watson. Someone has to be able to get this medication...its crazy how they just disappeared ....If I find something, u all will b the first to know!

Hi, saw your post. Did Kroger tell you what generic they are carrying now because I don't think we can find Watson anymore since the company is sold. It makes me sick because it was the only pain reliever that actually worked with no side effects. I have also just recently spoke to a good friend and he was taking Qualitest and said it was garbage too. What he meant by that was it DOES NOT work and for him it made him very aggiated which he couldn't stand so he quit that too. I get my RX re- filled in 3 days. What will i do I don't know yet but I am leaning towards brand name percocet. I have heard roxicet works good but then a few people on other sites said it is WAY too strong and these were men using it. The only good thing is I believe they are pills like the Watson and can be halved. I sure don't want something exceedingly strong that will prevent me from leaving the house. This is HORRIBLE!

I have had good success with pain relief with the Mallinckrodt brand. I think the Qualitest are just as bad as actavis as far as potentcy is concerned but they do not cause the anxiety issues for me. I haven't had as severe anxiety issues with subsequent doses as I did the first day so I'm hopeful that my body will adjust to this Actavis brand fully over the next few days.

That's why I am so grateful for this medicine chat. Jennifer, thank you for reminding me to check other grocery store pharmacies. I just checked Safeway and Belair, they both have Mallinckrodt, so the final choice is going to be the Mallinckrodt brand. Safeway says they've carried it for years, and from what I'm hearing here and online, it's better than "Qualitest". I'm glad I'm finding this information out now, BEFORE my next refill. I hope everyone here, finds another brand that actually works. By the by, I just got a call from the Actavis company. I have not spoken to them yet, because I wanted to get my thoughts together, and I just woke up. I will let you know what they have to say. I posted their number on this site, if anyone else wants to call.

I agree Actavis does NOT work for me either. We are in trouble, the options are nil. The Side effects are tremendous and intolerable.
I had to change from Percocet 10-325 to morphine 15.
Major drama, unnecessary aggravation and zero help.

I tried to call Actavis back today, and of course I got voice mail. I probably won't try again, I'm just going with the Mallinckrodt brand, and I'm going to use Safeway's Pharmacy. I heard Safeway is being sold to Albertsons. In the event that the medication changes with the company, I will get it from Belair pharmacy.

Martin, how are you feeling today? The Actavis also made me very anxious that is the first thing I noticed when I took that first pill weeks ago along with it being ineffective at any type of pain control. So I have been in withdrawals for 3 weeks now. The depression is truely something I wasn't prepared for along with the increase in my pain as the days go by. In 2 days I am to get my RX re-filled. I am going to go with brand name percocet as of now i guess, however, I am going to call around to different stores to see what brand of generics they carry. I will not hand over my RX to the pharmacist until they actually show me the bottle that they are going to fill my script with because once they fill it I was told we are stuck with it. I can't go another month like this.

Thanks for the information about the Mallinckrodt brand. I will certainly be using that one this time. I'm scared to try Qualitest now, as I've heard too many bad things about it. The worse being, it's no better than Actavis. I can't imagine another month of this!

Lola,

I've had them show me the pills they have before as well. That was when I did not want encocet. I guess we have to check each time we go now. I'm really sorry to hear about your depression. That is one of the worse symptoms of this horrible drug. I hope you find a little peace today.

Hi all,

So great to have this board and everyone's input and care. Not feeling great. As I said 18 hours sleep Saturday nd 1 hour sleep Sunday. yesterday was not pretty. I woke up from a nap yesterday with my heart spasming and couldnt breathe. This drug is killing me! Dont know much about Mallincroft, my options will be Roxicet or brand Oxycodone. Hopefullt they will work. I cant even guarantee to get those becasue I go to a Pain Clinic and they try and TELL you what they are putting you on. Not this time though. Lola, please keep us updated on what you fill. Jan, did you talk to Actavis? Thanks to all for their input. This Actavis crap reminds me of Tramadol. Anyone ever get that. It's a strong Tylenol. It gave me heart racing, anxiety and no pain relief. Sound familiar? I dont think they even MAKE Watson anymore. Gabatenin is crap too. Hated it. Too tired. They told me Gabatenin would solve all my pain problems. right. My old PA was going to offer me Diladuid. That may be too strong. Hope Brand Oxycodone works.

Hi Jan, just saw your recent post about that Actavis actually called you back? Was wondering what they said? Please let us know. Thanks so much.

Hi Lola, And everyone,

I'm having really bad stomach issues again. Anyway, I got a call from an Actavis rep. today. She listened to what I had to say, I tried to remember everyone's symptoms here, she said they are going to investigate. I was asked for a lot number, and I don't have one on my bottle. I was told Actavis is investigating and she is going to contact Walgreen's, to try to find out exactly what happened. I didn't give my last name, (afraid to divulge to much information) But I'm supposed to get information via mail, I think it's some sort of survey. I am still going with the mallinckrodt brand. As I said, that's what they have at Safeway and Belair market.
