Why is B17 the only vitamin illegal in the United states?

There are many whole foods that 'naturally' contain Vitamin B17. The link below shows a list of these common food sources:

As to why this Vitamin is considered to be illegal in the US, I have no concrete explanation, but can only guess that it has to do with money; the same reasons why medical marijuana is illegal at the federal level; Studies show it's benefits far outweigh its cons when compared to other medications or drugs. But the government doesn't know how to make money off of something that grows naturally around the world. Not to get off topic, but this appears to be the same reason Vitamin B17 is considered illegal even though it's found in abundance in many foods. It has potent anticancer properties (as does marijuana), but this information is not something the drug companies want the public to know, so they will pay big bucks to keep the info and research limited.
