Viibryd Reviews (Page 45)
UpdatedGoing to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?
Thanks!
I've only been taking the med since May and I've gained 40 pounds! I've only experiences weight gain through pregnancy and it ain't that! It's the med. I feel great on it otherwise. I've been almost every med and I've found one that works, it's sad that the only problem is the weight gain.:(
I had weight gain on vii too. I tried diet pills, and the combo had a very bad side effect. Don't take vii & diet pills. I even changed eating habits and it didn't help. What did help was v8 juice. I noticed not eating(or eating less) caused tummy aches. The v8 helped with tummy aches and hunger pains(when eating less) I wasn't hungry I just felt that way on vii. Hope this helps.
do NOT take this medicine!!! there is a link on here with many complaints, including mine. Did you know this is a black label drug? It barely passed with FDA..has many warnings. It has affected people's brains, bodies (muscular) etc.. DO NOT TAKE!!! Research. This drug is scary and dangerous.
I have just switched from Lexipro to Viibryd and upped my dose to 20 mg .I am experiencing severe facial tics which are getting worse day by day.
Do these tics go away if you stop using Viibryd?
I've taken Zoloft (didn't work), Prozac (stopped working), Effexor (weight loss), Wellbutrin (spontaneous rage), Paxil (serious weight gain), Pristiq (stopped working) and now Viibryd. Initially 20mg worked to pull me out of an acute clinical depression (I have a 20 yr history with depression). But after 3 months, started to feel symptoms again.
Dr increased dosage to 40mg. I just realized within the last couple of weeks that I feel normal again -- experiencing joy, excitement, handling stress and work much better!
So what's the issue? Well, I found this chat room by googling Viibryd & hair loss. I started to notice about a month ago that I was losing hair by the root...a lot of it. I starting thinking about what changed in the last couple months and all I could think of was the increased dosage of Viibryd. I now have 2 bald spots on each side of my head and my bangs are so thin you can see through to my scalp. Not very happy about it. I started using Rogaine, but it clearly states that if hair loss is due to medication, etc, it won't work.
But I feel so much better. So the question is...do you sacrifice your quality of life for alopecia?!? I have a Dr's appt coming up in 2 weeks. I'm going to discuss the hair loss with him and see what he says. I remember he didn't know alot about Viibryd when he prescribed it, but that I had been on so many others that he thought it would be worth a try. He's pretty conservative about medications, so I feel I can trust him in his assessment. I'll let you all know what I find out in a couple of weeks.
In the meantime, I hope you are all getting the treatment you need and your lives continue to improve!
Wow! So many side effects! Congratulations to those of you for whom it is working. As for hair loss, I would prefer to not be depressed than have hair, but I lost all mine once to chemo once so I probably have a unique perspective. The doctors I know have found Viibryd intolerable because of the gastric side effects, but the hair loss is news to me. Sounds like the FDA does need to hear about this. I thought the emotional side effects would end up taking it off the market, but they just keep on coming. It is an interesting drug. When it works it really works ad when it doesn't it is a nightmare...literally.
Don't take it..........
I agree. My dilemma is that Viibryd has saved my life, but the side effects ... Well, isn't that why we're trolling these forums/ fora(?) ? I've tried other meds, with varying success and side effects. Telling others that drug x or drug y is BAD could actually hurt someone. Ultimately, it's a journey finding the right medicine, and a patient doc who'll work with you and not force you to stick with one medicine. I'm truly happy for anyone who has found the right medication that wirks for them :-)
i was on--as i have previously posted. first on seroquel nightly (xr 200), pristiq daily, but that seemed to make me hypomanic in the evening, so swapped for viibryd, which was okay, but it also seemed i was experiencing hair loss to some extent. well, i lowered myself from 40mg to 20 of viibryd, and after a week or two, just stopped taking it. no 'discontinuation syndrome' (which, incidentally, with seroquel, was downright WITHDRAWAL just after one day when i ran out between scripts! itching like you wouldn't believe and sounds made me want to scream). anyway, i digress (but that's part of my strangeness)--so, just about the time i lowered the viibryd to 20, i started breaking the seroquels in two--which changed it from xr200 to regular 100. seems to be working fine, but since i'm off the viibryd, i seem to be hypomanic quite a lot. maybe i do need the extended release seroquel, but the idea was that i don't want to be dependent on meds. will see the psych in a week and see what's what... any thoughts??
Seroquel is one drug I haven't been prescribed, so I don't know anything about it. My Dr just added Buspar to the mix for me as an anti-anxietal. I think its making me feel edgy though. I fly off the handle very easily which is not good in my line of work. Anyway, I think I'm going to call my Doc & try to get off it. So, since your Dr reduced your dose of Viibryd down to 20 mg, are you still experiencing hair loss? My Dr told me its stress, age, heredity, etc. But I've been under this much stress before and never lost hair. And no one (incl the men) in my family ever lost hair. So again, I think its the Viibryd.
@empressou--hehe--my doc didn't cut me down to 20mg of viibryd--i did that myself, as did stopping completely. it sucks, because the "insurance" i have only entitles me to a "clinician" every two or three weeks and the psych every 2 months or so--and that just to write scrips. now, the one i had before had suggested buspar, but not this guy. i see him on the 7th and i'm going to discuss this with him. you know, before i got to even see the psych at this facility (i started there in early may and didn't see the doc until august 26! i had to rely on my previous facility to continue writing my meds--nice of them, huh?), i asked my clinician if he wrote stuff down re: our visits and the doc got to know me that way, and he said, "no, i speak to him". well, when i finally saw the doc, he said he hadn't discussed my case with my clinician. nice procedure, huh? anyway, that's why i decide my doses myself, according to how i feel... and i'm no mental health worker... i know different meds work differently according to person, but i really need to find something that helps with my anxiety and does not make me hypomanic. before i was on anything, i had trouble motivating to even shower or leave the house, so there HAS been SOME improvement (due to the seroquel, i presume). there's gotta be something that will help short of highly addictive benzos, which he won't give me anyway...
I actually spoke to my pharmacist about it. He said its actually anxiety triggered by Viibryd. It feels like a severe panic attack, with someone standing on yr chest. I've had those. No fun!
Raven, you are courageous in the face of adversity. You deserve better healthcare. Empressou, thanks for sharing and caring eniugh to wish everyone else well.
Just finishing 1st week of Viibryd, want to encourage folks who are leery. Been diagnosed with MDD since ca. 1980, self-medicated before that. Have taken all the antidepressants I've ever heard of. Prozac way back when I attempted suicide, all the new ones since. Just got off EMSAM due to interaction difficulties during/post-op for serial surgeries, knowing more upcoming, intermittently until death. Dr. gave me Viibryd starter pack; I went home and read scary blogs about it. During 2-week cessation of MAOI, tried to forget about scares, then night before starting Vii, found this blog. More scares, but some positives. First day on Vii, nausea started within 1st hour, diarrhea in 2nd hour. Felt sick all day. 2nd day, nearly same. 3rd day a.m., called Dr, wanted to quit. "No. Just stay on 10mg for an extra week." "OK." That p.m., felt better. 4th day much better, no diarrhea, just upset bowel feeling. 5th day, called Dr to ask if I should go up to 20 mg next week because side effects were so much better, and depression not as severe. (2 1/2 weeks of hell were enuf!) Dr advised to wait anyway, hoping to avoid repeat of side effects from upward titration. Today, a.m., just some discomfort down there. Am so glad I listened to Dr. Am hoping that this med will provide more relief than those before. Hope is a very good thing!!
I have been on it for at least two months and I am experiencing several rather disturbing symptoms. One is vivid dreaming which stays with you. While the dreams are not nightmares, one does not necessarily want to dream about your deceased relatives on a daily basis and then remember them vividly. The other is that I wake up with a head full of sweat. The third is extreme memory disturbances. Every day i go to the wrong appointment or gym class at the wrong time, I forget something I have just learned instantly, I get my days mixed up, etc. I don't know if I can continue on like this and I am going to see the doctor. He changed me from lexapro because I was lethargic and experiencing weight gain, but now I can't stop eating sweets and have gained ten pounds. I am just at a loss. I do feel more energetic, I have been going to gym, and feel more ambitious. But if I can't get in the car on the right day for a yoga class, what is the point. I am so frustrated.
Hey, Gayle. That stuff sounds awful. Especially the memory things, or at least that's what would bother me the most. That's not a life! My thought is that you want to talk to your doctor ASAP, like on an emergency basis. This is a psychiatrist? If that dr says something like, "oh, just wait, it will get better" I would at the very least CONSULT another. You only mentioned one other med; but there are multitudes available, and every one hits each of us a little bit differently.
You didn't specify your dose in this message. Maybe back down a bit?
Today I finally got my first 20 mg dose of Viibryd. Dr told me to wait until there was NO sickness, took an extra week, but had 4 days in a row no sickness. (Well, headaches, but uncertain of cause, and manageable) The depression, of course, goes on abated, but that's why we take the stuff, right? Good luck, and hang on. Talk to your doctor, be firm, factual, as unemotional as you can manage (Do you write things down before you go? Have a close friend to go with you, maybe?) I hope to see a message from you soon with some good news in it. You need that, even if just a little bit, because it's hope that keeps us going. Excelsior!!
I'm on my way as we speak. If I can remember how to get there. lol.
Viibryd warning: Legal action is in the works due to it causing SLEEP PARALYSIS & other serious side effects. Especially a severe form of discontinuation syndrome!!! Forest Labs (now under a new name?) refuses to acknowledge the sleep paralysis, but it is a problem for many. More to come!
I am on Vyvanse 40mg for ADD and Effexor XR 75mg because of the migranes I get once the Vyvanse wears off.. The NP at my Dr office advised that the migraines are from my serotonin levels going way down once the vyvanse wore off. Vyvanse and Effexor did great for a while. I didn't feel a difference of who I was. I didn't quite have depression issues, but the Effexor helped me be more positive. Before these meds, I had mood swings and could be very hateful, the Effexor helped with that. Ever since I was on the Effexor, my blood pressure got high. Talked to the NP about it and she prescribed me Viibryd. I'm a little nervous reading some of these more recent cons of the drug. I will start it and see how it goes. I really wish my NP or Psychiatrist would switch my ADD med. Do you think if I requested to try Adderall, that they may think that I want it for other reasons than ADD? I just don't want to be "that" patient.. FYI I felt the BEST when I was on 30mg of Vyvanse. The only problem was the migraines at 12pm every day.
Hi theoldman :),
Sorry to bother you but I am looking to potentially get on Viibryd and I wanted to hear about some experiences from people who have made it through the introductory phase (I know side effects can be rough in the beginning).
I was on Effexor for almost 10 years, but came off of it about six months ago. I've been doing okay, but can't seem to shake the sadness sometimes... anywho, anything you could tell me about your experience would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks in advance,
Dom
