Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks!

@Carla Seriously?

This board was a godsend for me.

While Vi did "work" for me for the first couple months, it also caused inexplicable and scary side effects that my pdoc couldn't explain..

Coming on here, I found that others were experiencing the same/similar things, so I didn't feel as 'alone' and 'crazy'.

Some of these side effects only occur in 2% of users, so it was relieving to find that I must've been in that 2-percentile.

That my pdoc wasn't aware and didn't fully explain how something like "joint pain" (a possible Vi side effect) could mean that I'd not be able to lift ANYthing--including my arms--for several months (and STILL can't, three months off it) doesn't mean it doesn't occur.

It definitely warranted discussion and, possibly, a 'freak out' because it IS freakish--and very frightening.

In addition to the 'joint pain,' I'm still having some sleep paralysis and had to go on another med just to help me get 'real' sleep now. Sleep paralysis led to severe sleep deprivation, likely contributing to the Vi-induced hostility--another reason I had to get off it. Oh yeah, & it did NOT rev up my sex drive at all.

Three months off, I'm just now feeling less suicidal and acting less violent with the help of yet another med.

Sure, I experienced occasional suicidal thoughts and (harmless) violent outbursts in the past, but coming off Vi was the first time I was like that *daily* and was afraid I'd seriously hurt myself or someone else. I got to the point where I *believed* that killing myself was the ONLY solution. (Two doctors wanted me hospitalized but I don't have insurance.)

So, yeah, people who aren't experiencing this aren't posting much, but for myself- who was/am, it's been a blessing seeing ALL the perspectives.

Carla, that is exactly what I thought. Only the 2%ers post on these boards. I was so hopeful. I was on Viibryd for 5 months. It started out great. Then, along with all the other side effects, I turned into a zombie. I hav been completely off it for 4 days now and finally feel like I have my brain back. Worse 5 months in years. For some of us it is really really bad, and we feel we must warn people. I wouldn[t wish what I when through on my worst enemy.

just started viibyrd 10 mgs 5 days ago....awful intestinal issues right off the bat - tried it with food like they say you should do, but the stomach bloating (feels like I have bricks in my stomach) and nausea are too much for me to handle. I am not sure, but plan on stopping cold turkey, any one else do this when on it for such a short time??...only other med I take is Klonopin at bedtime. Thx for any input !!

I have just gone up to 20mg (2 days now) and am feeling really weird, feeling very restless and I seem to be more deporessed, I don't know if I should stop taking this or try to stick it out!!! Anybody have any suggestions?

Emma, I decided to stop taking the viibyrd because of the stomach issues, one day off and I was extremely depressed, so I started up again...still on 10 mgs and my stomach issues are improving. I am going to try and stick with it a bit longer. I still feel sad as well, but a bit less anxious....The sadness I feel is not as bad as before I started the Viibyrd, so try and hang in there a little longer and will pray we both start feeling better ! Sometimes it does take a while for these darn things to turn us around. Keep me updated and best of luck !!

Jenna, Thank you so much for your reply and your advice to try and stick with it a bit longer. I will try to do that. The depression is still there but I do think that the anxiety is a bit better. It is sooo nice to have someone to talk to about this! I feel so alone. I am sorry to hear that you are having GI issues with it. Try eating something high in protein when you take it, like peanut butter. I take mine with bread and soynut butter and my GI issues have not been that bad! I see that you take klonopin at night. Klonopin can can cause depression and make an existing depression worse! Google it and read about it! All the benzos can cause depression; this is why I have never been able to take them. I don't understand why a doctor prescribes klonopin to someone who is depressed! I take tradazone to help me sleep. I was concerned about viibyrd making me more depressed because they tried me on paxil and that plunged me into a deep depression and had to get off it! I do know that some antidepressants can make you more depressed; that is what is so scary about this whole thing. Please keep me posted as to your progress. Hopefully we can help each other through this! Thanks!

Hello.. I have been taking the Viibryd for a few weeks now, and just up to the 40 mg. I was on 100 mg Pristiq before this, and started with no weaning off. I wasn't sure when I first started coming off the other meds when starting this one. All in all I think I feel okay for the most part. I have had a little stomach cramping, but my Dr says this will go away as I get used to the meds. He also told me that this is one of this type of meds that does not make you gain weight, but could have the opposite affect and make you loose weight. I have not as of yet seen any weight loss, but I am hoping to. I gained approx 30lbs on the Pristiq and would like to loose it. I am hoping for good for this med but will keep up on the posts from everyone. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Please keep us posted as to your progress! It seems to work for some people. I am now, however, in the process of getting off it. I tried to go up to 20 and the anxiety and depression got worse. I am back down to 10 and plan to cut the 10 in half tomorrow to 5. I was so hoping that this would work!!! Feeling so depressed about trying to find the right medication!! Good luck to everyone and keep posting!

Took the samples for the first week at 10mg and the following week with the 20mg. Now i just moved on to the 40mg and feel not much of a big difference but hoping for better results being that the full effect of the meds doesnt kick in till 1 month. I just got out the ER for stomach issues and i am hoping this was not due to the Viibryd being i never had stromach issues before.

I am taking it for anxiety- not depression. That may be why my experience is quite different from most. I was irritatable, short-tempered and would have 10 things started at once. It has helped me immensely. I am back to being organized and patient. I take it after eating 2 scrambled eggs and have had no issues. I do take omeprazole, so maybe that is of some assistance. I have had no food cravings or any other side effects. In the past I have tried Wellbutrin and Effexcor (or I'm sure the spelling is wrong) and have terrible side effects and weight gain. Viibryd has worked really for me. Good luck with it!

First I'll share the bad part - and then the good. I completed the starter pack and my doc wanted me to stay on 20mg, not go any higher. I had been on 20mg for 2 weeks when I had full on explosive out of control diarrhea for 4 days. It was so bad I almost ended up in the ER for dehydration. I could barely get out of bed and leaving the house was not an option. Now, before you think I'm exaggerating let me tell you I have RA and I have been on chemotherapy and have dealt with a huge array of medications and side effects so I'm not kidding with my description! I ended up taking 10 Imodium over the course of 36 hours before I felt confident enough that I could make it a couple of hours without needing a bathroom- and I headed back to work.

With that said, I dropped my dose back down to 10mg to see if things settle down a bit with or without Imodium. It's only been a few days but I can at least laugh at the earlier situation so that's an improvement right?! I follow up with my doctor later this week so we'll see what he says. I would really like this med to work but I'll take it day by day for now.

Would love to hear other people's success stories! It's easy to post and complain about the negatives but it would be nice to hear that its worth sticking it out!

glad to hear some of you are doing ok on Viibyrd...I became extremely depressed, more than I have ever been in my life, so after 8 days on the 10 mgs and for the first time in 20+ years, I ended up going to pych hospital for 5 days....the doctors, of course took me off. I also had terrible stomach issues. I will say that while my anxiety was slightly better, I could not deal with one more day in bed crying from morning until night..I guess it just was not for me ,,, Best of luck to those of you taking this new drug..I am sure it works well for some people, so please know that I am not knocking this drug down, this was just my experience, Best of luck to everyone !!

I have been on every medication out there for depression, they seem to stop working after 6 months to a year. Anyhoo, I was prescribed Viibryd and did well for the first three weeks until IT happened. "IT" being severe brain zaps. The first one started out as a "freefall" feeling then a quick zap. then the clusters came with constant zapping. How to explain zaps is difficult, but lets picture someone taking a taser gun to your brain as you sleep. You know its coming and cannot stop it. I am going to wean off this med ASAP, slowly going insane due to lack of sleep, the anxiety that the zaps will happen during the day and being scared to sleep is not worth it.

I have been on Viibryd for about 3 months. After the initial side effects it worked really well for me. This is my first time ever taking antidepressants, so I wasn't sure what to expect. My problem now is that for the past 2-3 weeks I've been having brain zaps, very dizzy, i've gained over 10 lbs, I lack concentration and I get sudden body jerks when in bed. This medication was prescribed by my general practitioner (my therapist labeled me with severe depression), so I do think I need to see a Psychiatrist next. I can't take it anymore, will start to wean myself off of it. Going on vacation next week and concerned I might be miserable.

This medication was making me more depressed!!!! I had to wean myself off of it. I tried to go up to 20 and my anxiety went through the roof! I have been without medication for 3 days now and am suffering from dizzy spells!!!! I hope this goes away soon!!! Anybody else suffering from dizzy spells when trying to get off the medication? I do not like this medication!!!!

Emma, I hear ya ! Contact your doctor ! I am now on Cymbalta and they did lower my klonopin and replaced it with a very lose dose beta blocker to help my anxiety...my depression, as per my previous post, also got much worse while on it...pls dont wait, call your doctor now !...the symptoms are horrible ! Let me know how you are doing !!

I have been on Viibryd for about four months. In the last two months, I've experienced severe joint pain in all joints (no exaggeration). I had been up to 60 mg, cut back to 40 (with the idea of weaning myself off it) and am now taking 20 mg while reintroducing good old Prozac. I am also experiencing pronounced weight gain on Viibryd. Have others gone through this as well?

I too have been on this and experience joint pain. I thought it could be from the line of work I do, but i am leaning more toward my medication. I was previously on Pristiq, and that one didnt settle well with me either, so i am thinking talking to my doctor bout going back on effexor. This is the only one i have never had weight gain with or any other side effects. I have also been extra tired with the Viibryd I think. I can come in from work and sleep for hours meaning like 12 hrs plus. This is so not normal. Hope everyone has a blessed day.

I've taken 5 of the 10 mg tablets. Tonight will be 6. So far I have had no side effects except a tiny bit of gas and this morning I feel a little lethargic and lightheaded. I will work up to 20 mg and then maybe 40, and see how it goes. I'm optimistic, but we shall see. I was on Abilify, but didn't like the side effects. I'm also on 300 mg of Wellbutrin and 15 mg of Deplin, which I take in the morning. Again, I take the Viibryd at night with my evening meal and have no nausea or diarrhea.

I started on the sample pack and settled on the 20mg but now am cutting the pills in half because I was too lethargic. Severe joint pain in my hips and shoulders is making me rethink the medication. I had been on Lexapro for a number of years and it was losing it's effect. I have not seen a weight gain on Viibryd but the joint pain and gas/diarrhea are too much.
