Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks!

I started on the sample pack and worked my way up to the 40 mg dose. A couple weeks after starting the 40 mg I began having joint pain in those bones on the top of the foot like you get from exercise, which I don't do :) Then my knees started hurting so bad I would cry out as I wasn't expecting it, and now the joint pain is in my knees, elbow (like tennis elbow), knuckles, and feet. That's when I finally figured out it was a Viibryd side effect. I tapered off them over about 5 days and have been Viibryd-free for the past two days. My knees and elbow already feel better. At first Viibryd worked great for my Major Depression, but I can't handle this severe joint pain. Supposedly only 2-3% of people in the clinical trials had joint pain - maybe they only tested it for 6 weeks.

Oops - I meant to add that I'll know for sure it was a viibryd side effect if the joint pain goes away. What a shame - it's the only Rx that seemed to help my Major Depression.

I hope that I can withdraw from this drug as easily as you did.

Been on Viibryd (40 mg after starter pack), in month 4, as an adjunct to Lamictal (300mg) for bipolar & ptsd.

I, too, am having sleep probs where I can be exhausted but just lay awake for hours or in a weird 'half-sleep' where I'm still aware of my surroundings and noises, etc.

As for bad dreams, I've had them for 19 yrs so doubt they're from Viibryd....

The worst thing, however, is the severe joint pain (so glad to see I'm not alone!). It's in my elbows and shoulders (one side worse than the other) and pain radiates down arms--very much like carpal/tennis elbow. Lately it's gotten so bad that even trying to lift my left arm is excruciating--forget picking anything up or even putting on my seat belt in the car.... My skin around the joints is so sore, sometimes just the feel of a shirt is irritating. This is NOT good.

After reading how some have gone back to 20mg, I'm going to consult with my dr and attempt the same.

The good part of the drug was that it does lift my energy level at times (not always). I'm a bit less depressed though the teariness, negativity, irritability and immobilization is also still present (had just come off Effexor XR after 12 yrs so was a basket case again...).

Anyway, I'll be checking in on here to see others' continuing experiences; thanks for sharing them! :)

hi dawnzig. I am feeling the same pain in my arm. I have been wearing a tennis elbow brace, but it is not helping. I can't even throw the covers off of myself in the morning without severe pain. This showed up out of nowhere and has been with me for over two months.

Hi Linda,
I did find out from my Dr that it IS a Viibryd side effect and have definitely confirmed such from reading over the posts on here and elsewhere online.

Again, it's good to know I'm (we're) not alone, but it's still troublesome.

What dosage are you on?

Btw, can relate to not being able to pull up/off covers--that happens to me, too. I can't even lift a cup of water some days! Today, just bending it at all is difficult. :(

Thanks for sharing about the brace--I'd considered one, so it's good to know it's not useful.

Am lowering dose to 20mg tomorrow.

i'm still weaning off it. it's been awful. and i agree with the others about not sleeping. i'll sleep a few hrs and wake up and be wide awake for hours. also 10+ lbs weight gain. since i was on the 20 for a month, i'm trying to be back on 10 for a month, before stepping down again. it's horrible and i wish i never switched from lexapro. my other long list of side effects are listed in my post last month.

I also went through the carpal tunnel like symptoms after I stopped taking Viibryd. Most of my joint pain was during the time I was taking the medicine but oddly enough the arm pain was after I stopped, became worse, then tapered and is finally going away. This drug has been a nightmare for me.

dawnzing, glad to heat from you. I cut off some of the tablet. So I am taking 3/4 of 40 mg.
No improvement in my arm.
I also have noticed a change in my eyes.
I want to get off of this med. Too many side effects for me to handle.

Wow, it's eye-opening hearing all this. I sure hope my pain doesn't still continue afterwards nor when the dosage gets down in my system. I'd hate to go altogether b/c this is the most energy I think I've had in 20 yrs.

And I definitely CAN'T take anything that adds weight [already have and can't get it off--look horrific now :(]. Dr keeps saying there are other meds I could go on but they have weight gain--so I refuse.

Damn med co's--why can't they make something effective in all this time that doesn't also cause debilitating effects? Sure it's all about $$. Jerks.

I'd also forgotten to say that Viibryd is also causing me the diarrhea (sp?). Not all the time, and with no rhyme or reason. Could have it three days in a row--or not for a week; doesn't matter what I eat--or don't--and the meals may not have any overlapping ingredients; very, very random. So now keep a supply of Imodium-type stuff on-hand.

But I'd be willing to deal with that if not for the pain....

Guess we'll have to see what happens in the next couple weeks--I started 20mg today.

does anyone know what the situation is with weight gain on Vii? I switched from lexapro for this reason but on this forum I'm hearing people gaining weight on Vii. I'm confused.

Just to know there is a postivie note for some people. If you have read through the thread, this has been an amazing drug for me. Sorry some are having a hard time, all drugs are different for everyone. If you read something on here, don't let it effect your mind. Be your own judge of the drug for you. The gaining weight part is partially because of different cravings and you have to be able not to give in. I have gained a couple of pounds...don't weigh but I can tell in my clothes....but I also haven't been walking everyday and on weekends either!! But, the best side effect is being able to drive where I want to..yay!! I do take Wellbutrin, and xanyx also. I also take an assortment of vitamins including krill oil, primrose oil, dandelion, b12 complex with c, lipotropics, and vit d.

I wish all of you good luck in finding what is best for you!!

I did have some side effects at first (shortness of breath, twitches), but through working with my therapist I have found that a lot of this was all in my own head. I was so worried about side effects on Viibryd that I started to have them.

I have been on this medicine for about 6 weeks (began with the starter back and stayed at 20mg) and this medicine works great for me!!! I feel "normal" - I have motivation. I am not wanting to sleep all day. I crave social interactions.

I just wanted to say that if you decide to go off this medicine, or adjust the dose, please talk with your prescribing doctor/psychiatrist. If they are good they will work with you to figure out what is a good plan for you with this (or a different) medicine. And if they are not good go see someone else if you can.

After talking with my psychiatrist (who I think is amazing!) I feel a lot more confident in her abilities (compared to my regular doctor) to help me navigate my medicine intake - medicine is what they went to school for, so they should know their stuff.

Good luck everyone!

My Dr has informed me that "arthralgia" aka the painful joints IS one of the side effects.

She also said it was a good idea FOR ME to go down on the dosage.

In fact, she said that they are now finding out that Vii is as effective at LOWER doses and that many people don't need to be on the 40mg that the starter pkgs work up to.

In addition, she said it's ok to actually cut/break the 40mg tabs in half to get a 20mg.

And, yes, this is all applicable to me and no one else specifically, however this board--and people's experiences--have been extremely helpful in finding out that others were/are having the same side effects as me (and that I'm not 'crazy', per se), and what some have done in response.

I had no fears about side effects when I started with Vii because I was/still am hopeful that it will be better than some of the others I'd been on over the years.

It's just that the excruciating pain in my joints has kept me from enjoying any of the newfound energy Vii gives b/c I can't lift one arm at all!

Glad to see some aren't having any side effects. Mine didn't start until the middle of the fourth month.

Day two of 20 mgs and oddly my arm isn't as sore today....fingers crossed it's not just a fluke.

I agree. I took viibryd for almost 2 weeks and almost lost my mind. Decreased appetite, insomnia, nightmares, digestive issues and horrible anxiety and depression. I was tapering off by taking half a paxil and half a viibryd,( thats how the dr said to start.) Last weekend i took myself to the er because of these orgasms that wouldnt stop. Im not making this up! I woke up having intense one after the other orgasms. I was kindof embarrassed to tell the er about it but what else could i do? They sent in some mental health people who decided i didnt need the mental hospital. this is a scary scary drug ! dont take it!

Wow, those are some interesting side effects, Jeepster2.

Although I'm not on the same corresponding meds as you, I will say that, aside from the intense dreams--mostly of the disturbing kind, I've also had several sexually intense ones.

Wonder if that's what's supposed to be the "libido increase" they've boasted.

Sorry to hear of your experiences....

And, as for my arm being better yesterday--it WAS a fluke, sigh. It got much worse last night and into today. :(

It's now been 7 months on Viibryd @ 60mg with not one side effect. I take it along with Lactimal, Ativan, and now
Rozerem to help with sleep-not connected with Viibryd, never been able to sleep whole life. I think I'll talk to the drug Psych about lowering the dose. Miss one night and the withdrawel starts overnight.

dawnzig, I am right there with you. I keep hoping that the pain will subside. Very annoying. I can keep cutting it down and hope for the best. I am living under a lot of stress and I need the medication right now.
It has helped me come out of severe depression.

Hi -
I started taking Viibryd 3 months ago and my energy level has increased significantly. I did put on weight but I am not blaming the medication for the weight gain for one reason - my appetite did increase but instead of eating healthy and working out, I started eating junk food late at night. The pill itself does not make you gain weight, it increases you appetite so be prepared to snack on veggies and fruit. I am going on two weeks with no junk food in my house and when I get the muchies at night, I drink a protein shake or something with high protein like almonds. Keep the junk food out of your home AND try to get 30min workouts 3x a week and you will be fine.
