Suprep Reviews (Page 26)

Updated

Has anyone used the new SUPREP kit before a colonoscopy?

Would like any comments about taste, ease or side effects.

Thanks!

I only hope I don't ever have to do this again. The colonoscopy was the easy part, but the Suprep and the recovery is a different matter. The Suprep seems way to strong or harsh for me. I had dizziness, nausea, and extreme cramping. It's a full 24 hours now after the colonoscopy and I still have weakness, cramping, and nausea. I hope that the doctor prescribes a different prep next time.

immediately following the colonoscopy, you must eat VERY nourishing food and take a multivitamin and eat a banana to get your potassium levels back up

I added some powered crystal light lemonade mix to the 16 oz I prepared. I added about 1/3 of the usual package that goes into a 500ml (16 oz) bottle. It really helped, I think.

I just finished the first dose. It is HORRIBLE!!! Imagine a really bitter saltlick in liquid form. Yuck! I tried first with just water but couldn't handle that so I added some tea but that didn't help at all either. I'm dreading the second dose scheduled for tomorrow. Next time I think I will insist on something else. ANYTHING else.

I am glad you mentioned your weight. I was wondering why the same amount needs to be consumed by different body weights. My procedure is tomorrow morning at 8:30 (it's now 3:30 and I can't sleep), and have been unable to finish the second dose. I am still trying to down water, and things aren't "running clear" but pretty close to clear.

I am a colon cancer survivor. I have my 8th colonoscopy in the morning. ALL bowel preps are horrible. PERIOD.
The Gatorade prep by far taste the least horrible. Suprep was what I used to. It is a grape/salty tasting cup of hell.

The only way I got through it was to have a teaspoon of honey to eat the second I finished a big gulp.

When I took my Suprep I had a glass of cold apple juice next to me. I drank the Suprep through a straw..Awful..like gulp..gulp..gulp the drink some apple juice. Repeat until gone. You would think in this day and age someone could come up with a prep that is tolerable.

Did anyone else have to drink mag citrate before an hour before suprep doses??The mag citrate was bad eneough but then to have to follow with the suprep was horrendous.I have never had a worse prep for a test in my life...and I have had several colonoscopies. In this case my cramping was so severe the doctor was afraid my bowel perforated delaying my procedure three hours...I did not get thru second dose and was close to taking myself to the emergency department after first dose was ingested. All in all my results were definitive with advanced crhones disease...I'm certain I will not be a candidate for this prep again..the pain caused by this prep was worse than any flare up I have ever had..There has to be a better solution or at least one in the works..good luck to all!!!

Suprep sucks! My first colonoscopy is tomorrow morning, and it was difficult to swallow this nonsense. I"m already sick and bloated as it is. Then to have to drink 2 more 16 oz containers of water? I felt chills, bloated, nauseous, etc. I am DREADING the repeat procedure again in 3 hours. And I have not left the toilet! Surely, there must be a better way. No wonder folks avoid colonoscopies!

Did my second dose and could barely finish it...nauseated, bloated, haven't finished my water before my midnight cutoff and it's 11 pm, and I"m exhausted from the first round and now waiting for it to start all over again. I swear, as long as I live, I will never do Suprep again!!!

Hard to believe in this day and age, that a bowel cleansing technique has to be this barbaric. Are pills and large amounts of water too much to ask for? This stuff is nasty, gag-reflex-inducing and hard to tolerate. But it works.

Are there any petite women in mid 70s who have used Suprep? I am age 74 and weigh 110 lbs. I don't understand why my dose is the same as a young, fit man weighing 250 lbs. or more. If there is a female who is near my age and/or weight please tell me about your experience with Suprep. I would appreciate your input.

I am 46 and 118 llbs...I actually thought the same thing...why do you need the same dose as a larger person? It was horrible, and I will request anything else but Suprep.

Not so bad. After reading all the posts here, I was really frightened. I've done all the other preps before and knew just how AWFUL they were. This stuff wasn't so bad. Had everything down in under an hour. Now I know the next bottle won't be as easy, but this is still a breeze compared to a gallon of pure SALT water. BTW, I never tasted any saltiness to this as others have reported. So really, folks. If you've ever done the other preps, this one is a breeze. No cramps, no nausea, no explosions, no pain! And I suffer from CFS/Fibromyalgia and am in the middle of a major flair.

I have done the other prep and while there is a lot of it at one time mixed with crystal light it was easier to take than suprep and actually not more fluid than the two doses of suprep and water. Just the thought of it makes me gag..glad it worked ok for you

I am a 50 year old male and am having my first colonoscopy tomorrow - and drank my first dose of Suprep 2 hours and 20 minutes ago, followed by the 2 16-ounces of water over the next hour, and so far it's been easy. It's had the intended effect and I've had no side effects or discomfort whatsoever. I also didn't mind the taste of it at all, not unlike a gatorade-type drink to my taste buds.

I suffer from the same and experienced the exact opposite. I have sworn off ever having another colonoscopy again because of it. Even with a family history of colon cancer I'd rather risk it.

I just did the first Suprep dose & it was a breeze to get down as I followed 2 helpful hints from my doctor's office: (1) drink with a straw (it keeps the drink's odor away from your nose), I also take a deep breath then hold my breath while sucking up the vile stuff thru the straw (2) suck on a Hall's cough drop as you drink - brilliant!

Tastes awful, but does what it's supposed to. Takes about 21-25 gulps to get it down. Good luck. My doctor's orders are different than those on box. Not sure what that calls for.

I took Suprep for my colonoscopy yesterday. I followed the advice of others. I used a straw and I believe a straw is necessary. I drank it as fast as I could so not to prolong it. It helped me to rest, but my rest was brief. I did not think about it when I rested. You must not tell yourself how difficult it will be, or that will make it worse. Have a firm resolve to do this for yourself. Fear and dread will only make the experience more difficult. As an example, people who fear the dentist have a lot more trouble than people like me who have no fear. It does not taste as bad as some say. It is definitely doable. It is better than other methods where more fluid must me swallowed than with Suprep. It really works very well and you will be well prepared for a successful colonoscopy. I am 74 and thin (110 lbs). My side effects were bloating after taking the first dose. I had a brief feeling of dizziness, but it went away quickly. The most important thing to do is drink water and other liquids as directed so that you do not get dehydrated as this will cause real suffering. I did not find it that bad and I will do it again in 5 years when I have to have it done again.
