Seroquel And Weight Gain (Page 7)

Updated

Is anyone else experiencing weight gain from seroquel? I still work out the same as always, and eat the same way, but I have gained over 20 pounds since i started seroquel 2 months ago. I dont want to stop taking it becasue i finally found a drug that helps, but this is an unacceptable side effect to me, anyone have any tips for dealing with this?

It is a terrible bunk drug for an imaginary disorder stop taking it right away it will only damage your brain, heart, nervous system and cause you to gain enough weight you will have diabetes. Doctors hand these out like candy just so they can get a paycheck.

Very dangerous med. Can cause premature death in older people and alzheimers. There are natural methods to help you sleep.

It helped me a great deal and now I have put on so much weight I went from a size 6 sometimes 8 to a size 12 14 I have decided to stop it because I can not deal with the weight. I stopped the pill three days ago and the side effects from coming off of it is horrible but you got to decide do you feel great or be depressed of the weight gain. I went to the gym and everything and still put on the weight

That's because you need a baseline EKG before taking it and a follow up EKG 2-4 weeks after you're on it. This drug can stop your heart in your sleep. They don't do regular EKGs on Alzheimer patients; they die from the drug. That's according to my neurologist who insisted I have an EKG before starting and while on it.

I have been on seroquel now for 8 yrs (800mg @ bedtime) and find that about 30 min later I have the munchies, usually for something sweet. I found that eating something small, with a LARGE drink helps to fill me up and satisfy that craving. I did manage to get it under control with the large drink, whether it's water, skim milk, diet Pepsi, or something else that is low calorie. Give it a shot, it worked for me, I've been doing it for 8 yrs with no weight gain. Good luck! :)

I have bipolar and went on seroquel in 2008...100 mg at first then 400 mg months later. I walked into my psychiatrist's office weighing 112 pounds, and by last spring weighed 175. I went on low carb diets, worked out at least an hour or more a day, six days a week and then resorted to restricting calories to 600-800 per day. The most I lost was 10 pounds. It was insane!! I felt awful. It's worse when people around you and even nutritionists tell you it's all about calories in vs. calories expended and assumed I wasn't being truthful. Truth is, people who take this drug are gaining massive amounts of weight and are becoming diabetic as a result. I switched to Lamictal a month ago and am waiting for weight loss. Add the sleepwalking and lethargy side effects and sleeping 16 hours a day, and it was a horrible way to live. Google different legal cases and add your story or information... There are many people who were lied to about the serious side effects, especially diabetes. The company that makes seroquel knew the side effects early on but did not disclose them. Good luck.

I've been on seroquel for 12 years.I used to weigh 134 lbs @ 5.2 inches. In a year and half I was@ 280 lbs. My dose has ranged anywhere to 200 mg- 600, depending on the need for adjusting. I'm down to 210 lbs and recently been working out and doing low carb diet. I'm scared to go off medicine for sleep reasons. send my body is used to this med and nothing else has worked so far. I'm currently only taking 25 mg for sleep because my mood is stable with lamictal and welbutrin. Is there still evidence that suggests that such a small dose is and will keep effecting my metabolism? scientific wise? Or am I doomed until I stop altogether?

Not imaginary. It has physical effects , which was how I was diagnosed. All sufferers share the same effects and it runs within families. As medical technology moves forward many physical brain illnesses will be easier to see. There is promising research originally intended to help Parkinson's sufferers that now is being used to help those with bipolar. It involves brain surgery performed while the patient is awake and reacts to stimuli that doctors use as they explore certain specific places. This will be a tremendous leap forward.

44 year old female on Seroquel for 10 years. It was added to my Zoloft when I was pregnant with my daughter. Zoloft seemed to help at the time. Seroquel did turn me into a zombie 20 minutes after taking it & It is 100% addictive. However unlike most I DID like the weight I gained on it. Off now for 1yr and lost ALL my voluptuousness. NOT happy with the drastic weight loss but I will NEVER poison myself with antidepressants again. I have permanent twitching in my face, eye, leg muscles, hip and joint pain. I watch what I eat, meditate and partake in good ole cannabis and am more emotionally stable than I've ever been. Just my experience. Thanks.

I was on 300 mg of Seroquel for 9 years. I was weaned off over about 5 months and took my last dose in May 2015. Before I started taking it, I was between 120-125lbs. At my heaviest (around 2012) I weighed 180-185. I made some drastic lifestyle changes and managed to drop some weight and settled at 155-160 by May 2015. However, since my last dose, I've lost over 20lbs.

Seroquel is a dangerous drug with frightening side effects and AWFUL withdrawal. My brain essentially doesn't know how to sleep from being on it so long, but there are natural treatments for insomnia and less damaging meds you can take to get zzz's. Really do your research before agreeing to be put on Seroquel. I wish I'd never taken it.

Yes, I gained about 40 pounds mostly all at once. I have maintained this weight over 10 years. I eat healthy and hike and swim. I am not trying to lose weight. I do not believe it is a realistic goal.

I was always able to eat whatever I wanted and never gain weight. I was prescribed 300 mg of Seroquel and starting gaining weight so I had to watch what I ate. Recently I dropped to 100mg and I am no longer having a problem with weight gain.
