Prolia Side Effects (Page 7)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
Joyce,
So you still have side effects? Have they diminished at all?
I wonder what would happen if you got another shot.....
Daphne
Alexis- have you had the Prolia injection and if so what p roblems if any did you have. Before taking the injection you should read more about the drug. I have had so many problems. You can read some of them on my post of several weeks ago.
I had my Prolia injection in February of this year (2012) at my Rheumatologist Office in Corpus Christi, TX while on vacation there (my home is in Ohio). I have also been receiving Orincia infusions for 1 1/2 years and was doing very well with my RA. After receiving Prolia I began having so much weakness and pain in my joints that I had to start using a cane whenever walking. Like so many of you I hope in six months this will disappear, even if it does I will no longer take Prolia again. I have a sister-in-law, after having a Prolia injection, had bumps form in her mouth.
Yes, I still have side effects and keep wondering when they will end. My 6-months are up the end of this month and the side effects are still pretty rough. I will not take the second shot as this 6 months as been pure misery.
My doctor never told me of any side affects whatsoever, it was only about 10 days later I received a Newsletter from ProliaVital, to call nurse in case of problems - this should be given as a last resort, when all else has failed. To be given to cancer patients - I do not even have osteoporosis, test confirms this - all I had I fractured my wrist, falling on ice in Dec 2011. Prolia was just the new kid on the market, and we were the first ones to get to the trials. First FDA wasn't going to approve it - then a few months later they did. So did Canada. I am from Canada, and nobody told me a thing, I learned it from the paper that was sent with a bottle of Calcium pills (which the doctor didn't tell me to take any) and ofcourse the info) which I had to use May 19, 2011, as I nearly passed out in the morning and the nurse told me to go to ER - the left side was completely numb. Yes and I have lumps and bumps on all the gums - the pains - the heat/cold baths - so, we trusted the doctor and nobody told us of the side affects, believe me, I WOULD BE THE FIRST ONE to say NO>>> Now I can read about it the damage is done, how do you get rid of an injection, when even Prolia doesn't know what will happen????? Amegden Pharma is all over the world now spreading their joy and their new Pill.
I have been on Fosamax for about 4 yrs. This yr. my Bone Density came back as lower. Now the Dr. wants to put me on Prolia. I am overall a healthy 68 female and other than Fosamax, I take NO rx. drugs. After reading all of this, I called my Dr. and advised I would rather stick with the Fosamax, take my Vit .D and Calcium and daily exercise at Curves. I feel too good, to have any of the side effects I am reading about. I would like anyone to respond to me about their feelings. I have never had a broken bone, even took a big fall last yr. and no broken bones.
Dear Dee,
You are wise to stay away from Prolia - first of all, all these drugs should have a history for about 20 years, before they know if they work for better or in most cases for worse. Fosamax has also been reported that some women develop breaks in the hips - Calcium and Vitamin D is now considered not all the hype it was meant to be, like getting heart attacks from too much calcium, if you have a good diet, take yoguart, eat all the right foods, and exercise moderately - you are healthy, so stay that way.
Hi Dee: I totally agree with Faith. This Prolia is poison.
I cannot go for my walks anymore as my feet and the rest of my body are so sore. When my 6 mos. is up I am going to try STRONTIUM SUPPORT it is natural. My friend was on Fosamax and got really sick so she looked up Strontium Support. Had a bone density done and her test was better than the last one. I know that meds don't affect everyone the same. Talk to your Dr. about Strontium Support and also look on line. there
doesn`t seem to be any side effects. But it is totally up to you and your Dr. as to what is best for you. Good luck on whatever you use.
Thank you to all who responded. I will heed your suggestion and not go for the Prolia. I am Diabetic, take no meds, as I control all with diet and exercise. I will certainly look into the suggested alternative suggested. Truthfully, my Great Aunt NEVER took meds as she said all were poison, and she lived to be 99, I have an Uncle who is 96, takes no meds, and I am looking for him to beat my Aunt. Even my Mama lived till 86, and took no meds, she died from C-Diff, had she not gone to the hospital for Phneumonia, I think she may still be here today. Something said for just eating right and exercising. Thanks again to all.
Today I stopped by an Alternative medicine Pharmacy. It was suggested to me that I not even take Fosamax. Was told that not only does this have severe side effects, but if you break a bone it doesn't just brake, it shatters. I'll post later the alternative suggested supplements. The Pharmacist is well know here and those who are fortunate enough to get to actually talk to him, find out just why he is in his 90's and going strong and looks like he is 70. Many trust his suggestions. I go back for my next Bone Density in two years, so I am giving his suggestions time to work. I am confident and trust his suggestions. Thanks to all that provided me info on Prolia. He too had the exact same things to say that you did.
OMG, I wish I had read all these comments before I got the shot the other day. I have started hurting in my legs, hips and arms. I decided to check out the drug reactions. That is when I ran across this site. I was informed there were no adverse side effects. I won't be getting the second shot in Dec. I hope this does not get worse. I don't want to lose my hair or have GI problems. I have GI problems enough already. I hope you all get 100% better. Take care.
Irene, as I mentioned in my earlier post, I had been to a pharmacy that practices Alternative therapy. The pharmacist suggested I start on Bio Citrate Strontium and take one a day for Bone health. In addition, he suggested I add Calcium -Magnesium taking 2 in the a.m. and 2 in the p.m. for Bone health. They also do compounding at the pharmacy and have developed a cream of all natural ingredients that supports bone health. So, for the next two years, I am going to give all of this the opportunity to work. Praying my next Bone Density is improved. I can say at 67 I take absolutely NO rx drugs. I take a lot of supplements, but I feel wonderful. A lot of people are not so fortunate as I am, and take an RX for something. As I get more info from my Pharmacist, I'll share. I totally trust him. He is living proof of taking care of yourself with ALL God given herbs, roots, fruits, etc. works. He is almost 90 and looks 70. He is amazing. Hope all have a great weekend. I am so thankful that I came across this website. Ya'll are great sharing your findings. Dee
Hi Dee: Did you watch Dr. Oz a week ago Thursday,His show was alternatives that the Drug Companies don't want you to know about. It was interesting because one of the topics was taking strontium . As I said before my friend has been on it for two years and her last bone density was much improved. Can't wait until after August 13 th , my six months will be up and I am going to start on Strontium right away. I am 73 and on a few meds. I had open heart surgery at 53 - 2 MI's after that but I am much better now. Doc gives me a five year warranty after every check up, says I am doing really well. Blood pressure of an 18 year old. At least I was fine until the Prolia injection. Have to wait until after Aug 13. to start on Strontium - apparently not good to be on both. Glad you are feeling better. Wish we could all feel better. Irene
Hi Deb: We all wish that we had found this sight before taking the injection. They some get very little side effects but I have yet to hear who they are. Today I feel like I was hit by a mack truck. Really sore, can hardly walk my feet are so sore. I have never had problems with my feet. Hope you don't get any more symptoms. Praying for you. Irene
Irene,
Why are you waiting 6 months to take Strontium?
Daphne
Hi Daphne - I am waiting because the lady at the health store said it might interfere with the prolia . Even though it is natural I would be getting too much calcium and D. I haven't talked to my family Dr. about it so I have set up an appointment with him for next week, hopefully he will say it is O.K. to start now. I will keep you posted. Irene
Irene, I am feeling wonderful. So thankful I took the time to look up exactly what Prolia was and found this site.
I do have a question if anyone has info on. My Calcium levels are not at a danger level, but it seems to be creeping up. This is indicative of my intake of calcium and vitamins are going to my blood and not bones. My Mama had this happen to her and eventually had to have Parathyroid surgery. Once the surgery done, never an issue again. My Pharmacist said he wants to see my latest blood results. He is extremely interested in my Magesium levels. Apparently this goes in hand with calcium absorption. Only surg in my life was having tonsils removed at 27. Again, I am on NO meds at all, not even for Diabetes. I keep this in ck by diet and exercise. Anyone, let me know if you have faced this and what you did. thank you
Hi Irene,
I too had a shot of Prolia, then became educated on the side effects afterward. I was told that I should go ahead and start on the Stontium even though I had just had Prolia. So I did.
I hear from people that the side effects do not necessarily wear off in 6 months.

Hi Daphne- I talked to my Dr. today and he gave me the o.k. to start on the strontium, so tomorrow I am going to the Health Store to buy some.
Hi Dee: Glad you are feeling better. I am in agony today -sore all over. Your Pharmacist is right you have to take magnesium with your calcium. I don't know of anyone with your high calcium problem. I'm sure your Dr. can help you with that. Good Luck Irene
