Can any of the women out there tell me if taking methadone stopped thier periods? I have been on methadone for 4 years now and as soon as I went over 35mg it completely stopped and It has not come back since. I am on 60mg now. I did get lowered to 30 mg at one time years ago and it started right up again. Does anyone know if this might be dangerous? I have asked my doctor at the meth clinic and she stated its nothing to be concerned about because I wanted to know if I should be taking something to make it start and she said no, but for some reason it seems that it just does not sound good for a natural process to stop like that and not have it do any harm. Any feedback would be appreciated.

When I started methadone, soon my periods stopped, except for maybe a few days, every 3 or 4 months. With that, my stomach bloated out making me look five months pregnant, my hands and feet stayed puffed up everyday. I got out of bed in the morning like a 90 year old woman. All this has gone away as I am detoxing. Almost finished and determined to stay away from this nightmare

I have been on Methodone for 1 year and a dope user 6 months before that , When I was on dope I had irregular periods and than when om methodone no periods at all . I have been detoxing because I am ready to be off of the methodone I went from 150 mgs down to 112 mgs going down 2 mgs every other week now at 112mgs I have all of a sudden woke up with a very heavy period !! (kinda scary) I am hoping it is from detoxing !!! I am going to call the clinic to make sure

Sylvia the same thing happened to me! I havent had a period in two years! I am lowring my dose weekly now trying to get off of this.. I dont know why is affects some women differently than others.. Once I went to the hospital for emergency surgery I didnt have my does for two days and i started my period! but when i started dosing regularly again it stopped I hate it!

I've been on methadone for 5 years now as a treatment for addiction. I've not had a proper period since I've had maby 10 very light short periods in that time. As far as I know it has a effect on the hormone balance in your body so rather than it having a physical effect on your reproductive system it's a chemical imbalance which will return once your off the drug. I think tho that if your on it for a while it takes longer to return. Also this is why most opiate addicted people are depressed it's all to do with chemcal imbalances. Just too add aswell his dosnt nessaserily effect ovulation it's different chemicals. I know all this coz I've done near 8 months research on it all as me and my partner are ready for children.

HI.I've been on Methadone for a year and 4 months.For the last 4 months I haven't had my period.I think the methadone stopped it.I am glad to know I am not the only one but it does still concern me.TO just stop the cycle seems really abnormal.I wonder what it does to us inside.Does it create any problems years later? It really scares me.

Nice to see lots of women seem to have the same thing happen...
I have alway had heavy periods and for 6 or more years heavy ox user. So i find it wierd methadone is stopping my period...

I am very concerned about this as well, and my doctor can check things out, but without insurance, I already pay enough for my pain management with fibromyalgia a month. I am on 60mgs a day and have been for the last 2 years

My periods stopped for 3 months all of a sudden and it scared me so bad! But then they just started coming back again. I'm almost off the methadone.

In my personal experience all opiates taken regularly stopped my period.Im 33 by the way. I also was on methadone for addiction and once I got down to 10mg of Methadone I got light periods. Then when I was totally off(which sucked to get off of) my periods returned to heavy flow. I would be happy not to get it like this!

I was on 100mg of methadone a day for several years as part of my pain management therapy. I didn't have any problems with my period at all. I'm in my 40's and before my hysterectomy I was bleeding for months on end. I actually bleed for 8 months straight. I would have a day or two where it would stop, but then it would start and seemed endless. I don't know your age, but if it isn't a sign of medical problems..be glad!
