Long Term High Dose Xanax Effects (Page 11) (Top voted first)

I began taking Xanax in 1982. I have been abusing it more and more over the years. I can now take 14 mg and not even tell it. I can stop taking it with no withdrawals. It's like I am immune to it. For the past two years I have been experiencing a lack of cognition, forgetfullness, and general fatigue. It does not matter if I stop the Xanax for a couple of months, I feel like the deficit is permanent. Can Xanax lead to permanent brain damage?

I thought Clonopine was for 1 pill taken before bed. Had no idea it was a take all day drug. I too got immune to effects of Xanax and switched for 2 yrs to Ativan. Then back to Xanax and it worked better. I will have to be on them for life BUT my Dad had early onset ALZ and they make me think I'm getting it even thou my Hubby swears it's the Xanax. and WITHDrawal from BENZOS is worse than withdrawal from any Opiate. It lasted for 3 weeks...no sleep, loose stools, headaches and finally I gave up. But my Psyche said I Must be on something for anxiety or I would definitely 'spin out of control'...so I continue.

I get severe tingling in my legs, hands and lips if I don’t take my Xanax every 4 hours. Is this normal; indicative of an addiction? I have been on this med for years and see a psychiatrist for depression and anxiety regularly.

ever have your liver enzymes looked at? I have a suspicion that something might be going on there. More specifically, your liver enzymes. With those amounts and beginning to go even heavier, you are not immune just maybe something is not working quite like is used too. I'd recommend you go get your liver checked out right now... or research drug induced hepatitis C associated with chronic xanax use but its very rare but rare or not its better to know than not know.

Alexia-- You cannot die from an overdose of a benzodiazapine alone. You will get sick and throw up first or just sleep alot until it wears off. Write back before you do anything irrational......

I get panic attacks when having to fly , doc gave me some Xanax 250mcg to take before flying. Will I become addicted to this medication and will I get side effects or withdrawl symptoms from using Xanax for 2 days flying each way??? Maybe I should just cancel my flight.???

Xanax I miss you. But your not coming back. Klonopin made me angry. I think the reason why is that Xanax had such a strong hold of me. Increase my dosage to feel better so I may crash harder or never avoid the hold it had over me. Feeding the addiction while mildly helping my anxiety. The benefits were great at the start only to feel worse and left alone and confused. 0.5mg every other day. Im fighting back.

I have been taking xanax 3mg 3 times a day for the last six months ans lately I've been abusing it so bad that I took a total of 12 milligrams in 1 hour if not more.I have been abusing it at this level for deveral months and feel that the medicine is doing amything for my panic attaks anymore

cold sweats after i stoped juse xanax... now its been 2 week since i stoped... first 3 days i had fever... now i just have cold sweats... how long time can it last? i was using 3-4 0.5 mg pills a day.

I have been on Xanax for 6 yrs, along with xyprexa and paxil for depressive/anxiety disorder. I take a max daily dose of 6 mg/day. My psychiatrist has no problems writing my scripts and feels that it has given me my quality of life. I once was told that genetically your liver can need more than the average person (my father was a bad alcoholic) they said my liver could be more tolerant to meds b/c of my liver. Sometimes I abuse it just to get a high which really doesn't work so I don't know why i do it. I don't even get tired on Xanax but now I'm seriously getting worried about damage to my liver. the thought of getting off it scares the crap outta me!
