Lo Loestrin Fe And Continuous Bleeding (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

I started taking Lo Loestrin FE on Feb. 2nd and it is now Feb. 21st and I have been bleeding non-stop (literally all day, every day). Doctor says to wait it out for 3 months... 3 months of non-stop bleeding? I've heard of breakthrough bleeding but this crazy!

I took this pill for a month after not being on anything for 2 years. In my past i was VERY regular. Im 31, no kids. I bled like 3/4 of the month just enough to need a light tampon- blood and brown while taking lo loestrin and was advised to NOT take them anymore.. I have been off the hormone pills for over a week and NO PERIOD! ... should i be taking a pregnancy test? i expected my period to start but since i bled the whole month im not sure...

I'm having the same thing. I didn't have a period for my first 4 months on the pill and this month I've had two periods! Only a week apart. It's very upsetting

Oooooh K...So I'm not the only one! I started these pills on February 27. On March 11th (my schedule menstrual date) My period came on and throughout the day went through an entire cycle (from light pink-red-dark red-brown-off). I was elated. The next morning (on the 12th) I began bleeding like a river. It is now day 11 for me. I called and texted my Doc, no call back. But when she does, if she try pulling the same 3 month wait on me, she will no longer have me for a patient. I can't take this crap. Reading your story makes me feel like who am I to complain...

I am on lo loestrin and have been very tired and irritable. The first 2 weeks I had spotting, but that was it, even when I was supposed to be on my period. But then I started cramping badly and bleeding non stop! I got the same 3 month comment from my doctor. I can not do that. As much as I hate the side effects from stronger bcp's, I think the dose may be too low for me, which is why I am bleeding. I can not keep doing this! This is the reason I got on the pill, to decrease the cramps and bleeding! Now it's constant. I want off this so bad!

same exact thing here. Was finallly clearning up and hoping for a clear day and I fell asleep last night, woke up to take my pill 4 hours late, and went back to bed. NOW I have bright red new blood again! I am so pissed about this pill and I am on it to help stop the cramps that sent me to the emergency room two months in a row. I don't have those massive cramps anymore but I don't have clear days either. I need to figure out a better BC to continue to help without this strain. It's ridiculous. I also started these pills at the sane time of my Novasure procedure. I traded ridiculously heavy, long periods, for light periods everyday of the year. Great.

I had the ablation procedure done on may 17,2013. The procedure did not work for me. Iuused to have a regular cycle that would last about 7 days with a day of strong cramping. My periods were extremely heavy and I would get very moody and bloated. Since the ablation procedure did not take, my Dr. Suggested Lo loesterin Fe. I was hoping that by taking birth control that would lessen both
My flow and length of time. Unfortunately, that has not been the case. I start cramping on the 3rd week of being on my blue pills and I have a dark brown discharge. I then start having breakthrough bleeding in which I have to use a regular size tampon. This has been happening the entire time. I have been on this birth control for six long months. Its worst than before I began. I can't believe I am actually getting my period two times a month....what a disappointment!

I'm on it and have had the same heavy breakthrough bleeding problem as other women, also some bad pimples but other than that no side effects. The reason for the breakthrough bleeding is the progestin type and the low estrogen combo. It's a one-two punch. Ladies, there are dozens of studies online that this first-generation progestin type (norethindrone, norethisterone and norethindrone acetate are all part of the first-generation family of progestins) causes more breakthrough bleeding than all other types. Norethindrone is an "estrane" type of progestogen while all other types are "gonane" types. It's safe (in terms of low risk of blood clots; the third-generation progestins have a bad reputation for causing more) but does not promote endometrial integrity like gonane progestins (found in most other birth control pills and IUDs), hence all the bleeding. The other safest type of progestin in terms of not causing many blood clots is the second-generation type called levonorgestrel. There is a reason it is the most widely-used progestin on the planet. My recommendation to you is to not do anything this low dose (before Lolo, 20 micrograms of ethinyl estradiol was the lowest you could get, and again, maybe that's for a reason?) and to make sure you're on a pill that uses levonorgestrel and NOT norethindrone acetate. Yes, it is androgenic which means you could break out, but so is Lolo. Lolo is actually worse in this way. And at least androgenic pills will preserve your libido better. Do not get a pill that uses any of the first-generation progestins. Go second-generation. Avoid third-generation - too high a risk of blood clots. I'm going on Alesse tomorrow and I'm never looking back.

I started taking Lo Loestrin on March 20, over a week after starting my previous period. This was my first time going on birth control after 5 years of not taking anything and my gyno suggested I begin that next Sunday after seeing her and getting the pills. I have experienced some minor moodiness and headaches but it seems to be improving some things too. After taking my first white pill last night I started my period today (I still had 1 white and 2 brown pills to take before finishing the pack) and at first it was dark brown blood and very light. I cramped all afternoon and into the evening. The cramps got worse in the evening. I didn't take any pain medication but they finally subsided around 9:00 and after I took a hot shower. Then around 10:45 I passed a huge clump of blood with what looked like a fair amount of tissue too. It was probably the size of a donut hole and a half, maybe 2, and it came out all at once. I feel fine and am still bleeding some as if continuing a normal period. Should I be concerned about that large clump? I have usually passed small clumps each time throughout the days of my cycle but never anything of that size all at once. :-(

I’ve been taking LoLoestrin for over 2 years. My periods are 28 days like clockwork, but right in the middle of the pack. My last period has lasted 9 days. Has anyone else had a similar experience after being on it ao long?

While I agree that it is crazy and unacceptable, yes, even if it lasts for a long time, continuously, they still consider that to be just breakthrough bleeding.

However, you should give it at least a full month, to see if your body adjusts to these pills. If you are still bleeding by the time you start your second pill pack, you should call and insist on a change and if they don't agree, you may want to consider seeing a different doctor.

To be honest, there is no reason for a woman to have to put up with it, for that long, on an oral contraceptive. There are enough options on the market to allow you to try something else. The amount or hormones and the precise combination in this one just might not be the right one for you.

When I started birth control, after having my son, it was the low dose tablets that I had a problem with, however, when I called about it, my doctor switched me to a different one right away. It took several tries to find the right combo for me, but we finally did.

I started taking Lo Loestrin fe just over a month ago. Same thing as ya'll, bled for 3 weeks non-stop! The last week I stopped bleeding and then barely spotted when I had my cycle. I had contemplated not taking it anymore when I bled for the first 3 weeks but I actually think it's leveling out now. I'm glad I stuck it out, no mood swings, still have my motivation to continue exercising.

Just an update. I ended up bleeding constantly for the entire 60 days (yes, 60 days!) that I was on this pill. The doctor has no switched me over to LoEstrin (one step up I guess). I am on my 2nd pack now. I bled for about half the pack during the 1st month so I guess as bad as that is at least its better than the Lo LoEstrin so far. (fingers crossed!!)

Here's my update...finished my first pill pack and bled the whole month. Called my gyn and even he thought that was too much bleeding. He switched me to Loestrin 24 fe...one step up like 2rugrats said, and immediately the bleeding stopped. I've only been on it 3 days, so keeping my fingers crossed that this one works!! Good luck Ladies!

Ladies, you need to report this to the FDA. They won't do anything unless it's reported. The breast tenderness, low sex drive, mood change, gain weight... all these can be side effect symptoms, which you get with most contraceptives. BUT, the heavy bleeding for several days is not, it's not OK. You have to report it and you could even get compensated... the more people reporting, the more attention is drawn and FDA can recall the pill. That has happened in the past. You won't be compensated in any way if there is no proof that you ever reported the ABNORMAL bleeding to the FDA. It will take a bit of time to fill it out but it's easy. Help other women out there by recalling this pill and prevent to hurt other girls. Here is the website:

Lo loestrin fe and loestrin 24 are two different pills. I started taking lo loestrin fe and I have not had any problems other than not having a period. and two pimples on my neck. Overall I like it better than other pils because of the low hormones. Every woman's body is different and will react different to any pill. Just find the one that is right for you. Hope this helps.

After being off the Lo Lo pills for 3 weeks now, I am glad to say I have not had anymore spotting or bleeding since then. Soon after going off them, I noticed that my extremely swollen belly, that looked like I was about 6 months pregnant, started going down to a more normal size. I also had a lot of problem having a BM when I was on the pills and was wondering what was wrong with me. Soon after going off the Lo Los, my bowels went back to normal and no problems since. I did also notice that my anxiety was going through the roof. I thought it was just stress I was dealing with, but it seemed to be getting irrational and hard to handle. That has improved since going off the pills as well. Not sure what was up with those pills, but they nasty things. Worst pills I have ever taken.
