Levothyroxine Is Satan (Page 3)

Updated

I don't feel so confused anymore. Now I know all of you are going through the same thing. My doctor put me on 50mcg of Levothyroxine about a month ago and I have gain 8 pounds! I get short-breathed and winded REALLY easily when working out. I used to go to the gym for 2 hours, now I can't make it longer than 30 minutes. I wake up ALL the time with tingly fingers because my hands have fallen asleep. I have headaches, I feel 100 times more lazy than before...and it's supposed to help your energy, not drain it. I e-mailed my doctor today, this is not making me happy. Not to mention I now have an acne type rash that burns like hell on my chin and I've always had clear skin. If this drug is supposed to make you feel better it sure as sh*t isn't working for me. I feel like a fat lazy a$$ with an itchhy burning rash on my face... stay away from this drug, that's my suggestion. :(

I have now been on 50mcg for about 9 months and I feel OK apart from my carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands. They say that hypothyroidism can cause this. My tiredness has gone completely so the meds have helped here. My wife is on a diet and I am supporting her and have lost 8lbs. It seems reading the comments that the ladies are suffering the most perhaps they should try the lowest dose 25 mcg and see if that helps the hypothyroidism and whether their side effects stop or not. I am 62 and would definitely stop the meds if I thought I had side effects due to it, which I mentioned in my earlier posts. When the rash I had disappeared I then tried the Levo again and it now seems OK with me.

I just ran over this post and it caught my attention. I have bee diagnosed hypo and have been having nothing but problems with the meds. Being that it is many years later, how did things work out when you quit taking meds? I need something to look forward to because it is really depressing.

I am doing well, been off of Levo for a year. I have my tsh down lower than what it was when I started Levo. I am on no meds. I drink more water, at least 2 quarts a day and drink 1 Ensure or the generic from Walgreens. Eating more plant based foods and go lightly on meat and dairy. I feel like a new person.

I have been on Levo 50mcg for about a year now. I put a post on in April 2012 saying I had been OK with meds.
Being stupid I did not realise that the spots on my back which started about 2 or 3 months ago could be side effects. The spots are painfully itchy and I had a lump appear on my lip which I thought was a cold sore. This swelling went down a few days later but I think there is still something there. On my forehead I have a raised rash that constantly itches about 1 cm in diameter.
I have also since the last month or so started to feel sleepy if I sit down. I am going to ring doctor today and I have stopped meds for last 2 days. When I went on Levo in April 2011 I had spots on arms you can see my original post.

I have been off Levo for two months, I feel like a new person, I workout everyday for 30 min, I eat lots of good veggies , I take vitamins. I am now drug free of any thyroid and blood pressure meds. Do not be afraid to stop, I was and now I am so happy. No doctor will tell me what to do anymore. I hate prescription drugs.its all bulls***. Docs are not perfect and don't know you at all..they don't know your body..only YOU do....I feel better than I have in years...I pray everyday, that GOD will heal me me and let my body fight on its on....you can do it, you can be healthy and do it naturally...I do not want to take Levo ever again.....I hated it.. I maybe tired at times , but you can get through and work out and take b complex for energy...I was so scared to stop all meds..but GOD has blessed me with a new beginning..you can do it too.....go for it...eat great, workout, trust GOD and live your life for you.....GOD BLESS...

I have been on 100mcg for over 11 years. I have not had any of the problems you guys have had, knock on a wood floor, but I am not able to get another prescription for several months and was wondering what the side effects of that would be. Seem like I should be able to handle it.

Yes you have to take your health issues into your own hands. Sometimes a doctor can assist but you are right on target. They only know what the drug companies train them in.

Been on Levo for 2 years had similar experiences and was ready to give up.Last 4 days been good, nearly, my old self. Look up Alkaline v Acid on the net, loads of sites, that are very informative, too much acidity due to stress, diet etc, investigate for yourself and give it a go its worth it.

Hey everyone! I know nobody has posted on this in quite a while but I just ran across it. If anyone sees my message, please respond if you can. I'm 19 years old and for a long time now I have been feeling depressed and very fatigued. I sleep so much and no matter how much I sleep, I am ALWAYS tired. I have also gained about 20-25 pounds in the last school year. Needless to say, it has taken a huge toll on my self confidence. I went to the doctor to talk about getting perscribed anti-depressants, and she decided to test my thyroid. It turns out that I have an under-active one so I have been given levothyroxine (50 mcg)... I took my first pill today. I'm really scared to be taking this after reading all of these posts. I leave for college at the end of this month and being away from home while possibly having to experience all of these problems is just making me really worried. I kind of thought that this was going to be part of the solution to my problem, but now it may just add to it. If anyone has any words of encouragement or success stories, please let me know. I know everyone's bodies are different, so I guess I'll just have to go for it and see if it works for me.

Hi, please don't worry, let the meds kick on, see how u feel...they may make u feel so much better..don't stress , do not and I repeat do not read these blogs..they will stress u and make u confused as hell..I did , I wwould read these and go crazy , staying up all night and read ...just put these blogs away and go by how u feel....please, I know , I have been through this for a year...just stay on them and see what your blood work says and how u feel is so important...if u don't feel better after 6 months, discuss with ur doc what to do...I kept a journal how o felt . U can do the same...just take em everyday ..and stay with it..don't give up like I did.....talk to ur doc...take ur vitamins..make sure u workout..take care of yourself..don't stress and I know u will be great...PUT THIS AWAY AND DON'T READ THESE BLOGS.....it ruined my experience on these meds ..ur brain has a way on reading these blogs and start believing u will end up the same way as other people...just go by how u feel for 6 months..and talk to doc ..workout ....u will be great ..good luck in college..no added stress due to these stupid blogs....ok take care

I know , I blogged last month,I hated them and not to be on them...I just felt so bad , u seem so sad and stressed. These are peoples personal experiences and not yours ..everyone is diff....yes there are natural ways but they are not always the best option for EVERYONE....let the meds help and see how u feel..u cam stop them if they aren't making u better...dont let a doc say not to stop...but u can't stop after yrs and yrs because your thyroid will depend on the meds..but after 6 months to a yr..u just don't feel better, explore the next option....I know lots of people who have the best time on this drug...so let it do its work for awhile and just see....and like I said before don't read these blogs..it just confuses the whole situation...one person hates , the other loves..ugh...its all up to u and ur body .good luck..just and to add that....

I agree with Jennifer Jade you have to try these meds. It's also useful to see other peoples reactions to the meds. I have stopped mine for now and waiting for my rash to go. When it does I will then go on to Eltroxin to see if this works without giving me the rash.

In addition to what ever you do with that medicine ( I am off of it) Watch the video Forks Over Knives and look at the website watercure, com. We need good nutrition and lots of water for the body to work at it's best.
Your health is really in your hands.

That sucks. i'm sorry you feel that way. i can sympathize. i feel so sick and jittery all the time. And so darn hungry! i can't stand it. i have went to the doctor so many times this month it is ridiculous. i live on a limited income. i can't do this anymore. When i took 25 i had a slight decreased apatite. i have been on 50 for a week or so. Now i am unquenchablely hungry! Will it ever go away???

So glad I found this site. I thought I was going crazy on this stuff until I finally looked up the side effects. I have been on Levothyroxine for 5 weeks. I started having terrible anxiety, then depression set in a week ago and I don't usually suffer from either. I'm also getting my period every 1 and a half weeks when I usually only get it every 5 weeks. I feel like this is seriously messing up my body chemistry and hormones.

I've lost interest in absolutely everything including my business that I love. I think what I'm most upset about is that I was falling in love with this most amazing man of my entire life, and when I starting taking this all of a sudden my feelings for him would go on and off like a switch and now that I started getting anxiety and depression on this stuff, it's like my feelings for him have totally disappeared and I so into him more than anyone in my entire life. I now feel like I'm pushing him away instead. Is this messing with my hormones so much that it is able to change the way I feel about things suddenly? It's so weird. I've never had anything like this happen. I feel so bad, I don't want to lose him. I just started weening myself off of it the last few days. Get me off of this stuff!!!! What is the fastest, but safest way to get off of it?

Wow. The mention of the chin rash really got me because I had that also!! Was on Levo. for 8 months and got fed up with it. 20 lb weight gain. Brain Fog. Generally just feeling lousy as all heck. Have stopped now for 5 days and am slowing coming back to life. The bloat is already starting to exit, just like the tide going out. I never had a fat stomach until taking this drug. I don't know what the exact metabolic mechanisms are that shifted, but they have not been good nor advantageous in any way other than bringing a borderline TSH reading over the line into "normal" range. I'm not going back on it no matter what any doctor says.

I have been taking 75 mg levothyroxine for about 8 months i KNEW that my bloated stomach (basically look pregnant) and 2 stone weight gain was due to taking these pills i felt fine before i started them. I spoke to my doctor the other day explained to him that i cant cope with these side effects anymore and broke down in tears. I have suffered with depression since beating cancer 2 years ago and all this weight gain and tiredness is just killing me. He said as my levels are back up i can stop it for a week without danger. But ive decided to stop it forever after the hell ive been through with cancer treatment and stem cell transplant im not going to live in pain anymore life is too short. If i do start to get ill i will defo not be taking levo again!! I wll post back on here in a week or two and let you know how i feel wish me luck :) take care all x
